We seem to be blessed by climbing films recently, just like London busses! I just watched The Alpinist and was blown away by some of the climbing scenes, great story too.
Yeah, there's definitely been an upswing in climbing and mountaineering films recently. Maybe the advent of action cameras and drones has made filming these epic adventures more achievable!? The Alpinist is top of my watch list!
Nice list, all must watch mountaineering movies. I'd give a shout out to the Nordwand film which tells the story of Toni Kurz and Andi Hinterstoisser's attempt at the Eiger's north face in the 1930s'. It's just an incredible true story which gives a look at the world of the some pioneering alpinists.
Good film selection, although I wouldn't feature Free Solo in my top 5. Very controversial. Valley Uprising is and likely will always be my favourite climbing film, Sender Films raised the bar when they produced that. I watched Distilled for the first time this week, so I'll be looking forward to watching other films centred around Scottish winter climbing.
Good list, I'll have to track down your 4 & 5. I'd put in a word for ' Jurek' a bio-doc on Kukuczka one of my boyhood heroes. Classic 70s Bonners too w. Everest The Hard Way
Btw : There was a great BBC Scotland series ' The Edge' in the mid-90s. Some eps are on YT - incl Graeme Ettle incredible mixed moves in the Northern Corries
@@atnosmalldistance7294 yeah I watched some of that on UA-cam! I went through a phase of seeking out everything I could lay my hands on related to winter climbing in Scotland, think I've seen every video and film on UA-cam 😬
@@adventurefilmclub2549 I think it was first aired over Winter '94 - 95. We'd watch & VHS every ep, discuss it at midweek wall sessions, and keep a close eye on scraps of Scottish forecasts hoping the weekend would 'go' :)

I've not actually seen it, must look it out!
@@adventurefilmclub2549 oh you must, its fantastic - also the documentary that Joe Simpson did about the White Spider and the Eiger is fantastic too
