Why was Jesus not named Emmanuel? | Bible with Bordeaux

Good discussion. Read the verses before and after. It is talking about Hezzikiah not Jesus. And the translators changed the tenses. Thank you.

Jesus was named Jesus not Immanuel because it was the instruction of Gabriel to Mary (and to Joseph in a dream) to name the son that she will bring forth (give birth) as Jesus. (Luke 1:31/Matt 1:21). When Gabriel appeared to Mary, he did not explain to her that Mary's giving forth a son is the fulfillment of Isaiah 7:14. It was Matthew's gospel (written sometime between AD 50-60) that concludes the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy (Matt 1:22-23). The information given in Matt 1:22-23 was not part of the dream. Gabriel did not spoke of it but it was only quoted by Matthew to give emphasis to the readers (while writing the gospel) that it's the fulfillment of the prophecy.

Consider watching: Sevened | God perfected his name in the KJV. Jesus has many names and titles which could be what Emmanuel means.
