PUMA FAST-R NITRO ELITE REVIEW (MOST UNDERRATED RACING SHOE) | 5 THINGS I LIKE AND 1 I DON’T

I nearly didn't run in the Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite but boy am I glad I did! Amazing super shoes, probably the best I've tried in recent times. Anyway, enjoy the review, and leave a like if you didn't mind watching the vid!

Price - $250/£220 (Vaporfly 2 MSRP £230, Adizero Pro 3 MSRP £220, Endorphin Pro 3 £210, Metaspped Edge+ £225)
Availability - I couldn’t work out when these shoes were launched; I guess early last year in the US and Q3 in the UK. I’ve been sent a pair after I ran the London Marathon, so October 2022.
Weight - 8.7 oz./247 grams (men’s US 11/UK 10)
Drop - 8 mm. Stack height unknown; some sources claim it’s nearly 10 mm, others that it’s 35 or 37. Most people agree on the heel-to-toe drop, though.
\\what’s the Puma Fast-R NITRO Elite?
The Puma Fast-R NITRO Elite is a lightweight, neutral racing shoe with a cutting-edge, two-part midsole featuring the NITRO Elite foam, PWRPLATE carbon composite plate technology for maximum running efficiency and stability. PWRTAPE upper reinforcement for increased durability and PUMAGRIP-LT high-traction rubber outsole. Cushioning level is cranked up to the maximum - just look at it!
\\5 things I like
Responsiveness - The Nitro Elite foam is fantastic. It reminded me of the ZoomX foam in all the right ways. It’s soft and bouncy and light, a joy to run in. Being an elite racer, the PUMA FAST-R NITRO ELITE almost forces you to go faster than you want to while helping you preserve energy as much as possible. It suits my running style perfectly.
Stability - Although the landing zone is slightly narrow, the overall stability of the shoes is excellent. I really appreciated the wide forefoot area, which helps me control toe-off more precisely. The partially exposed carbon plate provides even more stability as you begin the roll, guiding you through the process but not forcing you to run in a specific way. It’s brilliant.
Race-tight fit - Now, when I say it has a race-tight fit, I mean it in the best possible way. The synthetic upper is light and allows for breathability, or, more like, helps ventilation in the shoes, which is essential in keeping the swelling to a minimum. And thanks to PWRTAPE reinforcement, I’ve seen no evidence of the upper giving way. Although, truth be told, I’ve only run around 50 miles in the shoes so far.
Boldness - This is the Freglow version, but even without the striking colours, the Fast-R Nitro Elite would be instantly recognisable, thanks to the two-part midsole, exposed elements and OTT branding. This is as much of a statement shoe as the Vaporfly or the Adios Pro. I like running shoes with a personality, and the Fast-R Nitro Elite has loads of it.
Fine little details - From the sparkly heel counter to the partially exposed carbon plate, the Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite is all about the small details. This shoe could have gone very, very wrong, yet here it is, looking pretty and behaving like a stallion. I have the utmost respect towards the designers and engineers at Puma for creating these shoes.
\\1 things I don’t
High-stack design makes you whack your forefoot down a bit - This could be the result of how I run in high-stack running shoes, and it’s by no means exclusive to the Fast-R Nitro Elite, but I noticed that I tend to slap my forefoot down a bit when I run in the shoes. I consider myself a pre-midfoot striker, and maybe due to the lack of foam under the midfoot, I land harder in the shoes than in others. Interestingly, this doesn’t affect leg fatigue levels and even running form too much - a mystery!

Great review! I am a 55 year old guy thats not that fast at running but I bought them as I thought they looked great and thought i'd give them try. They didn't disappoint and i was surprised how stable they are at slower paces great for 5 and 10K runs for me a real winner miles better than some of the Nike super shoes which for me are too unstable.
