Favorite quote: "You're not going to make Apocalypse Now if you're also playing in, like, Bon Jovi, or whatever." - Brian Chippendale.
I love how he just stares after saying that
But if you play in the Grateful Dead, you make part of the Apocalypse Now soundtrack.
Yes focus on your craft and don't spread yourself to thin otherwise your focus is weak on your main passion
That Zach Hill comment at 2:45 killed me lol
I come back to this video just to see this again regularly.
I saw hella without knowing them in a small club with other maybe 15 people, I will never forget that day.
"I'm playing the drums as loud as I can and still there's famine in the world"
"The aspiration is to just have a good practice that night."
My kind of artist right there.
xTheOxx When you find that groove, there's almost no better feeling.
Talk about a quote. “80% willpower, 20% technical skill”
Interesting quote around 11:30... "If I've got a couple things to do in my life I'm O.K. But if you give me one more thing to do do, I won't do any of it". I can TOTALLY relate. Story of my life and I'm struggling with the second part. Overworked, multi-tasking. Anyone?
ADHD
When I heard that I was like that's me
That is my story. I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until I was 41. Dropped out of school too many times to count.
if Greg, Brian and Zach Hill made an album that would be fucking amazing.
Have u listened to drumgasm? We need another with these 3 guys
It is forbidden.
the unholy trinity
if I recall correctly Greg played drums for Zach Hill's song "Memo To The Man" in the album Face Tat
@@artvaz8 reallyyyy?
I'd love to hang out with Chippendale.
I have had the pleasure of at least talking to him a solid half hour way before a show in 2011 and 18. He is so fucking cool its nuts. Our daughter was in NICU when she was 2 and he not only posted to help us out on our go fund me, but he also donated. I love him so much. He knows me and my wife. He met my brother last year in Louisville
lighting bolt has been my favorite band for like ever. this meant a lot to me thank you pitchfork.
this
At Gasa Gasa in New Orleans, Greg Saunier told me that he walked into the room with Chippendale, stared into the eye of the hurricane, and played as hard as he could. These two and Zach Hill are heirs of Keith Moon. We are living in a golden age of drumming brilliance.
*milford graves
greg sounds like tommy wiseau whenever he laughs
ahahhah, couldn't put my finger on it
lol greg is making all this existential questions about everything and brian is like "whatever, lets play"
Greg seems to be a really intelligent person. The college he went to is fairly hard to get into.
@@apothecurio he seems to have assburgers
@@illkissyourightnow hmm I’m not really qualified nor do I know him well enough to know if he has asperger’s
@@apothecurio whats the college? Juliiard?
@@andreitarkovsky3214 oberlin conservatory. I said fairly hard. not impossible.
"all the ghosts are as loud as the living..."
PLEASE MAKE A 40 MINUTE OR MORE JOHN DWYER DOCUMENTARY
YESSSSSSSSSS DO U LIKE PINK AND BROWN?
PURPLEBAGELGOD999 yes awesome shit
YES and bring back pink and brown while you're at it.
lol. i remember when they broke up they had a note on their website saying they were splitting up. wording it like parents telling their kids about their divorce. but dwyer is fantastic in thee oh sees. i understand. i have the shame fantasy cd and final foods burnt. but all songs on the final foods e.p. are on shame fantasy. but damn the oh sees is bangin. and he also has damaged bug. dwyer is a busy dude.
ua-cam.com/video/qJ86emsnzz8/v-deo.html think you might enjoy this, if you haven't seen it :)
We need an Ed Rodriguez documentary, he's been in sooo many fantastic bands over the years (deerhoof, nervous cop, colossamite, xbxrx, ect) and he's such a unique guitar playing style. Also he was just the nicest dude I've met at a show, super killer dude, would love to learn more about him
Flying luttenbauchers best iteration had him.
Greg Saunier has a similar demeanour to Rodney Mullen, but I never thought there could be anyone as strange as Rodney Mullen. He's not quite as strange but he's getting there.
Both these guys have ASD whether they realise it or not. Just like Rodney Mullen.
The way they behave and describe how they function is straight out of a textbook.
Very inspirational.
Greg Saunier, more than any other drummer I've heard, reminds me of a young, mod-era Keith Moon. Except he's doing his own thing and makes the drumming sound even more uncontrolled and elastic.
The commonality seems that both these guys feel like they best express themselves through their drumming.
Greg Saunier, I love you man.
Saunier is amazing! So happy this documentary got made.
Fuck, Greg is so thoughtful
great stuff... two of the best drummers around and both fine men. Loved this!
where is zach hill
practicing prolly
Rehab
He hopes to get out of the asylum on the weekend, if he doesn't bump into anything at a certain pace by then.
Its funny that everyones complements to Chippendales drumming sound like insults but if you love his style, you just get it. He is a very unique drummer, who is one of the best to watch but if you love traditional music, youd think, "i could do that" even if youve never played before
My mp3 player was FULL of Lightning bolt, so fun to skate to.
This was fantastic, thank you so much
Kind of wanted more Brian in this but whatever
this rocks so hard. thanks dba and everyone involved.
THIS IS SO SICK THANK YOU
thank you for this
this is absolutely amazing
OH HECK YES! MY TWO FAVS!!!
This is such a great documentary
F-yea, great documentary again from pitchfork!!!!!!
Greg's snare, holy shit.

Does anyone know where I might find a longer cut of that performance with Saunier out by the water at the end?
8:11 for that classic Saunier chuckle...

Anyone know what the last Lightning Bolt song is? It was played over the last 5 minutes.
It's actually a song by Black Pus, which is Chippendale's solo project.
Ben Hope ahhh I figured do you know song that is?

It's like a marching snare. Used to be the norm.
Beats shit ever

Brian always looks like he cuts his own hair but he is not very good at it.
He probably does

Wonder what Ginger Baker thinks of the boys
Keith moon would be proud...
please link of this perfomanse of black pus
FUCK this excited me... love Greg.
I could very well do without the Doty musician hype man segments. I know Brian's a good drummer. It's why I wanted to see him and Greg spazzing out together.
YEA THAT LAST MINUTE OF THE WHOLE VIDEO!!! WHERE IS MY DATA FILE ON THE WHOLE SESSION THEY MUST OF HAD?!?
to little views!!
Calling him a drummer is almost an insult
Checking in at 30 next year??
