The drumming. Can't you hear it? I thought it would stop, but it never does. Never ever stops. Inside my head, the drumming. The constant drumming. It's everywhere. Listen, listen, listen. Here come the drums. Here come the drums.
Wow, when you listen to the whole thing and then it stops, the silence is astounding. Imagine how the Master would've felt after centuries if the drumming has stopped.
Just imagine everyday of your life you're forced to hear this all the time... there is no breaks just all the time... I can barely survive a minute of it...
Actually not. The Master's drum beat is regular and plain, while the main theme beat is harmonious. One is a straight "1-to-4" beat, while the other begins as a "2+1" beat, which seldom evolves to a more elaborate pattern. I can't explain better because I never studied music theory, just have a sharp hearing.
I know what I must do. I'm going to go out, buy an Ipod, and fill it with this. Every single bit of space on it, filled with the sound of drums. And everywhere I go, I'll always have it on, always hearing the drums. Eventually it'll get stuck in my head, so that even when the Ipod is gone, the sound is still there. The drums, always beating, always getting closer, for all of eternity.
Imagine hearing this every moment of every day since you were a small child...Now imagine hearing it not for years, but centuries. No wonder he was a raving lunatic.
Uncreative Name Well if you heard it all your life you wouldn't even notice it. It becomes like a pattern, so your brain just tunes it out. It's like when you're driving on the highway for a long time, your eyes can get used to the pattern of the lines on the road and you could fall asleep (something to be ware of). If you've seen the latest season, the Doctor gives a similar explanation for the human heartbeat in Hell Bent.

It's not about the fact that it's constant or not, it's the fact that the beats to the intro follow the steady four beat rhythm. A rule of four if you will
The intro does start with four beats, the first and fourth played loud while the two in the middle are ghost notes. Depends on the arrangement, but this rhythm is definitely present.

How to really feel like The Master: Using earphones, start this video and another one (preferably a music video) at the same time, with the drums at low-medium volume, and the music/other video at whatever volume you are comfortable with. Listen for a period of time, and then take out the headphones. It seemed like nothing happened, and that's when I suddenly found myself tapping my foot in an otherwise innocuous pattern. It will get stuck in your brain.
Holy shit, listening to this and then it ends- I want the Master to finally get some silence because I feel like they would probably cry from relief. I can’t handle ten minutes, imagine a lifetime
I actually really am glad that someone did this. It gives a chance to understand The Master better. Anyone could be driven mad after hearing this every hour of every day, into eternity.
Found myself tapping to this beat today without realizing, in perfect time to the video. Haven't seen the episodes it's featured in in months. And there was something funky with my phone connection today. ITS HAPPENING
"Can you hear them? They're coming They're in the signal, they're in my head. Is it only me? Am I the only one to be called? This pounding in my ears is calling me to rule the world. Rule the universe as a Master of your fate. Can you hear the drums? Don't try to fight them; it's too late." -Sound of Drums, Chameleon Circuit
its even cooler when the sound is down making it feel like a background noise in your head rather than a full fledge drum beat, i swear i feel like i'm going insane listening to it like that
No, in the last episode with the Master, it actually shows the Galifreyan council talking about forcing that beat into the vortex just for the master to have stuck in his head.
before i watched doctor who... i heard this all the time..... now that i watch doctor who i don't..... but when i haven't watched doctor who in a couple weeks i hear it.... is this normal? am i the next master? help me.....
To find out if you are the Master you must do several things. Number one look for fob watch if there aren't any move to point two if there are fob watch DON'T OPEN THEM! Number two try to remember specific things about you childhood if you can't remember any specific things you are either Master or theres something else going on. Number three look for blue boxes.
do you feel called, do you hear the sound of drums..do you wish to rule them all as the master of their fates...too bad, they are already to be exterminated.
I just listened to this for 6 minutes and my conscious mind forgot that it was there. Just that beat, tapping in the back of my mind.... I'm tempted to watch an episode of Doctor Who with this going in a loop.....
Four single notes; basically a metronome; the reason this stands for eternity is because in most to all cases; Passages of music are made up of notes that all add up to four single beats; whether it be a long note held for three beats or 25 half half half semi notes all in 30 seconds. Hard to explain because I'm bad at that but people who know the fundamentals of music theory would understand what I mean
I'm on my second hour. It started as drums, now most of the it's just train. train. train. train. But hard slamming kinda sounds like a heavy door, can't escape that. I tried bowtie's are cool, I can kinda hear it but my brain didn't stick with that for very long at all. Making songs about trains to it kept me the happiest as of now
Is it weird that I want it in my head the never ending drums I would gladly switch places with the master because he is freinds with the doctor and he getting to listen to this awsome song for all eternity
This was such a cool aspect of Simm's Master, I love how the drumming was incorporated into the soundtrack for World Enough and Time / The Doctor Falls when he appears. I don't like the idea of every Classic Master supposedly having the drums as well, because that was never hinted at before or since, but for the Simm incarnation it's a brilliant addition to the character

So I listened to it all, had no effect. I'M IMMUNE TO INSANITY!! BHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA 1A2A3A4A 1234 1234 1234 1234 1234 1234 1234...
I started to hear the drums say "Doctor Who" near the end...
Katrina Leonard
me too^^ and now I can't get it to stop...
I heard "Follow the Drums" after Katrina mentioned it, but I first heard, and still hear "Gallifrey Stands"
miyaissleepdeprieved Me too
I started hearing the word "Gallifrey" half way through.
Bowties at cool
Galifrey stands
Here come the drums
And
Allons-y (idk how but its there 😂)
I’ve gotten to a point where I’ve listened so much it feels as if something is wrong if I stop
1234,1234,1234,1234 every beat of my hearts
Is it bad my text tone is literally a vibration of the drums? c:
Greeeeeeeeeat now this is stuck in my head. Thanks a lot,Prime Minister!
It's very...catchy.;3
It sounds like a melody if you listen long enough, sad yet beautiful, merciful yet unyielding, harsh yet gentle.
And if you go away, you yearn for it.
I've been listening to this for probably a hour now.
Just turned it up to 50% on my headphones.
Regret nothing.
I'm tempted to make this my ringtone and just scream "CAN YOU HEAR THEM?!" whenever my phone rings
This is now in my head forever if I ever met the doctor all I would say is the drumming doctor can't you hear it. It never stops doctor listin
The imperial march walked so the Master’s drumbeat could run
During it:
123412341234
After:
Silence has fallen.
has anyone noticed if you move away from your computer or device the beats tone gets higher like: badadum to badaaadum
Jack Lim
o,o Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo true! DX!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack Lim I though I was the only one that was hearing that
0.0 omg
DEAR LORD THIS IS MADDENING
I LIKE HAVING A BEAT TO DO EVERYTHING TO, BUT THIS... THIS IS MADDENING!
Holy shit, listening to this and then it ends- I want the Master to finally get some silence because I feel like they would probably cry from relief. I can’t handle ten minutes, imagine a lifetime
The heartbeat of a Time Lord
I'm slowly loosing my mind! Every time someone mentions Doctor Who the drumming noise comes back!
Serena Allen-Wells doctor who
I've listed to this now for a year on repeat, I no longer have to listen to hear...there is no silence, just the drums.
Okay this will be my ringtone. And whoever says “can you bear the drums?” When it plays, I know is a Whovain.
I actually really am glad that someone did this. It gives a chance to understand The Master better. Anyone could be driven mad after hearing this every hour of every day, into eternity.
Listened to this all the way through, and for three weeks, I was hearing it in my head. Really gives me insight into The Master's insanity.
The four beat heartbeat of a timelord
Found myself tapping to this beat today without realizing, in perfect time to the video.
Haven't seen the episodes it's featured in in months.
And there was something funky with my phone connection today.
ITS HAPPENING
"Can you hear them? They're coming
They're in the signal, they're in my head.
Master just has tinnitus like my dad.
before i watched doctor who... i heard this all the time..... now that i watch doctor who i don't..... but when i haven't watched doctor who in a couple weeks i hear it.... is this normal? am i the next master? help me.....
Jiří Podivín I dont remember my childhood from when i was born to 7 years old. Does that count?
Jiří Podivín Number one... check. Got a fob watch.
Number two... check. Can't remember everything.
Number three... not yet.
Ohh boy...
do you feel called, do you hear the sound of drums..do you wish to rule them all as the master of their fates...too bad, they are already to be exterminated.
I just listened to this for 6 minutes and my conscious mind forgot that it was there. Just that beat, tapping in the back of my mind....
I'm tempted to watch an episode of Doctor Who with this going in a loop.....
Ever since seeing his episodes I swear I keep tapping this beat every now and then. Its insidious.
When you realize this is 3/4 time (the first three beats are one measure, the fourth and half rest are another)
I'm on my second hour. It started as drums, now most of the it's just train. train. train. train. But hard slamming kinda sounds like a heavy door, can't escape that. I tried bowtie's are cool, I can kinda hear it but my brain didn't stick with that for very long at all. Making songs about trains to it kept me the happiest as of now
Update: it now kinda sounds like a demon and I've made all kind of sentences. Starting to get to the point where it's not fun
I think my heart has finally synched to this beat...
Staring into the Time vortex itself, as a child, The Master Has always, been insane.
I think the crazy thing about this is the fact that you subconsciously do it.
I find myself tapping four times without realising.
OMG i hear this everyday in my head!
Is it weird that I want it in my head the never ending drums I would gladly switch places with the master because he is freinds with the doctor and he getting to listen to this awsome song for all eternity
Once this finished the world seemed really silent
David is back, David is back, David is back, David is back, David is back.
I can never get this out of my head
Put it on 2 speed, it sounds tribal
Oh yeah XD
Still waiting for the “oOH WEEe WOO”.
I'm gonna try to listen to this for a day straight, see what happens
*sound of insanity*
This was such a cool aspect of Simm's Master, I love how the drumming was incorporated into the soundtrack for World Enough and Time / The Doctor Falls when he appears. I don't like the idea of every Classic Master supposedly having the drums as well, because that was never hinted at before or since, but for the Simm incarnation it's a brilliant addition to the character
i dont, watched this episode once and all i hear every now and then through the day, every day is this drum beat and it never fucking left my head
I personally love this. You can hear each and every beat more and more accurately the longer it goes on
Oh holy tardis of galifrey I can't think any more I just listened to the one hour version
The master is Britain next prime minster.
If you combine this song with " Nyan cat " , it's the vision of hell !!!
WHY DO YOU HATE PEOPLE ?
i just realized what that beat is.
That's the beat from the intro! That's the dunununun that comes after the sting
Every theme is in 4/4
Good god, imagine hearing this all day, every day, for your entire life. And the master is probably thousands of years old, at least! Damn!
The master is not evil he is just broken
