I am born and brought up in Pune. Right now I'm 65 years young...traveled a lot on Mumbai-Pune by train or by road on motorcycle. Always feel happy to see the natural beauty of mountains and greenery and waterfalls during mansoon at Lonawala-Khandala. Thease are the most popular hill stations in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra is blessed with everything.

Imaan & Mozzam : I am so happy you liked the journey from Mumbai to Khandala. My Childhood was spent Trekking these mountains of Western Ghats be it Khandala or Matheran . We used to move out in our groups during weekends & trek. Today I'm 65 & still yearn to trek aur aaj bhi mujhe woh laal mitti ki khushboo mahsoos hoti hai. Having traveled the world over I can say My India is truly beautiful. No place like my India. 🙏

This route which you guys are talking about in the ghat section was one of the toughest route to build for Indian railways after independence.
M can't even count how many times m hve traveled on this track .....bt he haven't shown other side of this track ....its more beautiful u can see rajmachi fort .....beautiful hotels on hills top on other side more beautiful nature 😊
So true : we used to also climb Matheran mountain from Karhat side apart from Neral. Oh the red soil would stain our sneakers. Today I'm 65 & still yearn to make a trek or two in my beautiful western ghats

I believe it was called VT (Victoria Terminus) and was built by the British. It is a bad policy to rename historical structures.
First time when I visited Mumbai with my parents and land landed to Victoria terminal station ( Bori Bunder) from Punjab..We can hardly speak hindi n Coolie who picked our luggage immediately responded to see our body language as outsider...whisped in my ears... Ye hai Bambi nagaria tu dekh babua.... 😂😂

They are called Banker locomotive. They are uused to push the train in gradients. If train is descending these bankers are used in the front to control the train while coming down .
First Indian railway start between Mumbai to Thane 1853
Before that granite loaded trains were operated by British between Red Hills and Egmore in Chennai . Check with Google

This route is built during British Rule ie in early 20th century..
Every time I travel on this route, I wonder how British engineers have built this rail with hardly any machinery which was available in those days..
They had good engineers but the laborers were Indians.

This is the same station of Mumbai which was targeted during 26/11 terr0r attacks . 58 INNOCENT people were killed in the same hall which you watched for the first time.

Wow! Missing my monsoon Mumbai picnics. 😥 Enjoyed watching this train travel with you . One of my favourite travels in this part of India. Fondly remembering all my monsoon picnics to Lonavala with friends and family.
Me too : missing all those treks be it karjat to lonavala with duke's nose or tiger's leap points or Matheran treks from various sides .. The entire western Ghat range from Saputara in north to Wayanad in south & everything in between is truly beautiful . Hope this beauty is preserved for generations

They are called .."Banker Locomotives, (Bankers/engines which are fixed at the last of the train) these Locomotives/engines are used to push trains on high ghats/mountains...you both are pure and very adorable, love from Mumbai Maharashtra. 🤗

I think there is no plural for ghaat, while it defines series of forests and falls, ghaat is ok.
Ghaat is a collective term for a pass through a mountain range.... a single mountain edge/ridge isn't individually called a Ghaat
Your logic is wrong , first it's marathi word not Hindi written there and in marathi ghaat doesn't have plural form . It's only ghat

In Marathi GHAT is plural also. Ghat mean a way carved through high mountain
MH state is geografically divided in two Major parts :
Konkan & Mumbai north end Palghar district & south end Sindhudurg district very close to Goa state . All this max 60 km width narrow land belt is accompanied by sea shore towards west direction & bottom of the mountain series called western ghat or SAHYADRI in MH

Man! Dude! That was beautiful! Chaa gaye boss!! Brought back memories of my younger days when we had traveled from Pune to Karjat, and then trekked up to Matheran. That was 1984 monsoon season, and there was not a single built up area anywhere around thse hills. In fact there were no vehicles allowed in Matheran town. The place had been preserved so well. Anybody knows if it retains at least some of that old world charm still?

Being a Mumbaikar, I worked in Pune for 3 years around 1978. Pune has a special place in my heart .. be it Camp, East St, J. Maharaaj rd , swaar gate, hadapsaar, We used to pack sandwiches & beer & drive up Pune satara rd near tunnel.. Forgot name of that Ghat & watch the entire city from that top. Pune has great eateries . Thanks Pune for such fond memories.

"Banker locomotives" are temporary assistant locomotives which help the lead locomotive by pushing the train from behind. Used in regions with inclination.
Mumbai - Pune rout pe hi ek bahut purana song picturise kiya gaya hai movie "Dost" ka, "Gaadi bulaa rhi hai.... Seeti bazaa rahi hai.... " ye bahut popular song tha mere childhood days ka aur aaj bhi mera favorite hai. Usme bhi monsoon rain me hi train ko Khandala ghaat se nikalte dikhaya hai..... Aap jaroor dekhna.

Modiji ne is desh ke infrastructre ki kaya ki palat di h,pure desh me apko kai garbage nai dikhega,ek se ek buildngs,almost sara sarkari kaam online,or railways to pucho mat sai me bharosa nai hota ki 7 saal me itna kaam b hoskta h,khair agar dil me desh prem or imandari ho desh ke liye kuch krne ka mann ho to kaam upar wala kardeta h,modiji ki jaii bharat mata ki jaii

Khandala Ghats are very beautiful. What you saw in this video is not even 5%. I travelled in this route several times in all seasons but the best season to travel is during mansoons, which is also a bit risky too. If you want to experience the thrill and beauty of the nature then it is worth taking the risk.
And yes, train travel is better than the road travel although the express way had made it much easier and safer to travel through ghats.
Those waterfalls, that greenery, that feeling of passing through clouds is something to be experienced in person.
And yes Lonavala's chikki and Karjat's vada pau are a must buy.

Yeswantpur (Bengaluru) to Mangluru is best route of vistadome coach train.
Its actual name is not CSMT but V.T but due to politics the name has been change to CSMT This station was dedicated to Queen Victoria and was built and named after her Victoria Terminus short form (V.T), it was built by britishers during British rule and there another station Called ChurchGate it is also a well known station.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is India's pride.... there is nothing wrong in naming the station after him..
DUDHSAGAR Waterfall Is also in Maharashtra 🚩
