  • U.S. Marines with Assault Amphibian School Battalion undergo various training evolutions on Camp Pendleton, CA.
    Upon completion of the Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) Crewman Course, a Marine will be awarded the military occupational specialty of 1833. The purpose of this course is to provide the training necessary to serve as a crewman of an Assault Amphibious Vehicle. AAV crewmen perform various duties incident to the operation and maintenance of assault amphibious vehicles and the Upgun Weapons Station (UGWS) MK19 40 MM / .50 CAL M2 machine guns. AAV crewmen prepare AAVs for the tactical employment of troops and equipment during ship to shore movement and subsequent operations ashore.

    Ah, the good old days... more squadbay living days, long classes, learning water ops in the jetty and on the beach, range days, installing and removing the EAAK, that "moto" swim across the jetty in water that was probably more petroleum-based products than actual water... so worth it, though, when you graduate and are in the Fleet. Some of my fondest memories of the Corps were as an 1833. Del Mar, Twentynine Palms, Oki, LF CARAT '01 on the USS Rushmore, going to Kuwait and Iraq with some of the best friends I could have asked for... YAT-YAS!

    Dark, loud, with engine exhumes flooding the chamber making it hard to breath. With rolling and pitching in the sea...little wonder why infantry run out when the door opens

      Freaking death traps... Operating in heavy seas, they're one wave away from being swamped and those that survived had to probably fight for their lives to get out . They should be moth-balled. If these were operated by a private company, there would be hell to pay in wrongful death lawsuits.

      akira ! I can already tell you what it’s going to be like. It’s a combat support job so you’re going to be with the grunts doing what they do but you’re not a grunt. They have to walk everywhere while you get to ride in the aav. Probably going to be station at Camp Pendleton. Since it’s tracks you’re probably going to be maintaining your vehicle. Go talk to a recruiter about it. I just saw someone driving it on water and I thought it was cool so I chose it 🤷‍♂️

    • @mikem4259
      @mikem4259 4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, it’s long hours on the ramp, busting rust, going out to the field every other week, breaking them, towing them, working on them. In combat, they are huge bullet magnets, and they break down at the worst possible time. Lots of fun. But, the new amphibious combat vehicle, a wheeled amphibious assault vehicle, looks like it’s gonna be a huge upgrade.
