By now you must know CPM-3V is one of our most favorite steels. Few steels offer more wear resistance combined with toughness to make create a real world high edge retention as 3V does.
So of course... when it looks like there is an amazing deal to be had with a 3V knife we are here to test it! Introducing @knivesandtools exclusive edition of the Lionsteel M5 in 3V!! This knife was already nice but now for just a little more it has 3V!! So.... is this a good deal? Find out in our episode!

Have you seen the ACTA NON VERBA knife lineup?
@@tphvictims5101 Oh yeah, they have some very nice knifes. Unfortunately they appear to have problems with their sharpening, my A200 and Nick Shabazz's Z050 were both almost dull out of the box.
The benchmade puuko is 3v and only $125
WAS THE FISH ON A STICK REALLY GOOD?

It's so refreshing to see your friendship while making these vids. Especially in this episode. Real pleasure to watch.
I love the design of the lionsteel so much. Everything looks so well designed on it 😍
Consider a small ferro notch vs grinding the whole spine. Comfort and function rolled into one!
Smart idea, nice one 👍🏻
Where would you grind the notch
@@CCumby007 Send me one and Ill do a video!
@@JohnnyJuke for real?
That's what the Lionsteel T5 has.
I started watching this channel for the knives BUT I continue to watch because I Love the friendship and bond you two have, Never Take It For Granted, I would do anything for a friendship like that!
Great vid again guys. I used to want 90 degree spines for bushcraft myself but today I don't like using the spine of my knives for scraping fire steels. I now use a fire scraper ( esee fire scrapper, works with steels, flints and also has a bow drill divet as well) . To each their own though right. Anyways , much love to you both and your families 👪
Your new cameras are really paying off. Those shots of the fires 🔥 are the best ive ever seen on youtube. The sparks and flaming debrisare showing up so crisp.
I picked up a pack of strikers and added them to the paracord loop on my ferrocerium rods. This way, I always have a good spark off them, no matter which knife I pick up. I can understand people not wanting to bother with an extra thing, but it's a good solution for me.
Top review guys and very entertaining. Another one for my shopping list but the prices from Knife and Tool have gone through the roof for us here in the UK due to all the extra Brexit charges. We really have been hit hard which is a shame as I bought many knives from them in the past and I voted to stay in the EU.
Yeah we feel this too bro, when we buy something from you.
I'm never disappointed with DBK's knife testing or comparisons. I wish you both a Happy Holiday's and look forward to DBK in 2022!
Thank goodness I managed to get one! They’re sold out now… It’s Absolutely perfect build quality wise, razor sharp literally from factory and CPM 3V ❤️
That “Hey, Maarten? I love you.”
“I love you too, man.” got me.
Mikke, you may have been a right jackass at 18 but you seem like a right sweetheart now.
Man I fucking love watching you boy's hahah I miss my best friend Nick we were out in the woods literally every single day growing up cutting down trees, makes forts you name it and I miss hanging in the woods more than anything hahah Wish one of my friend's around here were half as cool as you guys 🤜🤛
you guys crack me up. love how far your channel has come last few years!
I have the T5 and it’s one of my favorites. In 3V it would be even better! Quality is outstanding and so is the capability. Honestly, lionsteel starts to make me side-eye my fallknivens for value….
Give it time. We should write knivesandtools a group letter about it lol
Yeah, love my t5 but would love it more in 3v.
MagnaCut would be pretty badass too. Stronger and more corrosion resistance than the steel for the T5 they use now.
I have the T5 as well, and I don't know...the Niolox steel is pretty amazing on it. Holds an edge better than my Bark River CPM3V.
@@sirsir9665 Yes, I would happily pay a premium price for a T5 or M5 in MagnaCut. I currently have the T5 and love it. It's my primary camp knife.
Thx for the review guys. I was considering an Esee 6, but lately I’ve been leaning towards the Lionsteel T5. That sheath is pretty nice.
Very fine knife. I been wanting one for a long time. Great job guys.
Hey brother! Fancy running into you here! I bought one of these. Got here yesterday. Haven't had time to do much with it yet other than whittle on a stick, but so far, I really like it! I too have been eying one up for awhile, but couldn't decide if I wanted this one or the T5. The 3V pushed me to pull the trigger on the M5.
@@timbo4374
....., 😆 🤣 yep. I kinda favor the T5 my self. They all are beautiful knives so it makes it really hard to decide
@@timbo4374 I'm in the same boat right now. I want the T5 but 3V can't be ignored. Plus I know the moment I buy it, they'll release the T5 in Elmax or something!
You should make a video on convex edge field maintenance, like what micron size and juice would you use on a piece of leather or strop to sharpen while backpacking out in the field for maintenance, and what micron(s) do you use on your strop at home to get the best edge.
I love my new Benchmade leuko that is 3v. I wanted the lion steel too but Smokey Mountain Knife works was sold out. They are my favorite knife shop right by where I live.
Thank god it did a great job, because I own it already for two weeks.
Great video as always. I miss my discord brothers :(
These are some interesting brands to test: Joker, Anza, Carter Cutlery, Puronvarsi, Enzo Badger.
Lov your show mates thankyou keep havn fun!
Would love to see some small lightweight tactical knives !!
I was hoping Lionsteel made the T5 in 3V.
I think I like every single knife that Lionsteel has put out, I gotta try one of their fixed blades.
Nice video. Have you guys done anything with White River Knives. I have Ursus 4.5. Very happy with it. Drop-point, flat-grind, S35VN. When I use it heavy it is still sharp but responds very well to quick honing. I would love to see you guys beat one up.
"While the fish is cooking, I think we should shoot the knife."
I'm going to start randomly saying that during conversations.
just got one today ! Yeah BABY !! 😎👍🏻
I'd always take a standard 1095 with a good blade geometry over a "super steel" with a bad blade geometry.
Please,Does that mean the Lionstel M5 has a bad blade geometry? Thanks in advance
That teal and orange look... Crazy good video as always guys
Maybe it’s not a rod striker but the beveled edge on that M5 is beautiful!
the metal chonk at the bottom is a striker, they noticed it in another lionsteel video
Awesome that is using cpm 3v in the M5, I hope to see it in the T5 soon.
I'm just happy Mikkie was able to make that fire.
0:44 me entering the woods after I have been attacked there:
Ahhh Thursday's dbk for knives then my forest hobby for a wrist workout God I love bushcraft ❤🍻👍
Knives and Tools does not ship to my country. GREAT!
I make a cpms90v that is 140. And a cpm154cm that is 100. They are hybrid bushcraft hunter knives.
Oooooh, I like that :D
I like round spines on a knife better tbh, I've a scraper for the firesteel, dont need a 90° spine, sucks if you wanna carve something 🤔🤪
I even have a lighter 😁
It’s lemon time , that’s nice I have that in my yard
You can use the sharpening choil for fire steel
The fish does look good! Sardines? Mackerle? What is it?
Also yes the Lionsteel looks great!
I can see you guys like a food challenge. Please try making 'Biltong' for your next video, a delicious South African snack.

As a non-expert, I'm still puzzled by this whole Carbon vs Tool vs Supersteel debate? I read in many reviews that higher carbon steel (e.g. Sleiper) is easier to sharpen and tougher? Yes, it may be prone to rust and blemishes, but can't you use oil and look after your carbon steels? Ray Mears/Lars Falt and many too chefs seem to go for high carbon steels? You guys seem to be totally on board with 'super steel', but not everyone is an expert on sharpening or has access to lots of sharpening technology! Doesn't the extra time/care needed to sharpen stainless steel knives override the disadvantage with carbon steels of having to add a bit of oil or polish? Anyway, I may be talking nonsense..before researching which knives to buy I never knew steel was such a technical geek paradise :-) Now I'm really torn between whether - as someone who just enjoys bushcraft, but doesn't want to spend weeks regrinding/sharpening his knife - whether to go for the Sleiper, the Niolox or the CPM3V version of the M5? Great channel btw :-)
carbon steels are outperformed in every way by tool steel and stainless steel. tool steels are usually tougher, stainless is well stainless. both are capable of high edge retention. carbon steels can be tough but not more than tool steel and even some stainless. with diamond stones it doesn’t take any significant extra time to sharpen tool steels and stainless steels.
Hello Mikkie and Maarten, There's just one problem w/your video, that was the hours it would've taken to catch those fish!!!🤣🤣 Anyway good going. That's the problem w/the Italian knife makers who round out the spines...which is why they sided w/the Axis during WWII (no sharp spines!)!👂🤔🤣 IMHO!! ThNks for another good year, I've still not been chosen, yet and might not be, just "never say never!!! Have a "Merry Christmas and a safer New Year"! Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 👍👍🙏😇👊
Sponsored by a company that makes a sharpening system for v edges Mickie " I really don't like v edges" out comes the work sharp. That right there is what we call in Australia fucking gold. P.S. we also call that fish bait
moreover by the company that buys sharpeners from aliexpress and them puts their logo on it and resells for the 5x more money
Breaking news: Dutch man with split personality disorder under his persona “general Mickey” kills 30 in Amsterdam with Italian knife.
Upon capture he said that he did not like the grind but it was good for the price.
you dudes should review the Leatherman WAVE+ its a beast of a multitool or its bigger version the Leatherman Surge
The sheat is great too
What is your experience with Spanish knives? Albacete, Spain has been famous for centuries for its knife smiths.
Good one. I like da look a that knife
The must have fixed blade of this brand.
But they have many beautifull folders.
You should test a knife made in Crete they make some of the best knifes
I really like CPM3V, so that has to be decent! Have a great nite!!!
Lionsteel is absoluttely fantastic for the money at least thoose few i have seen and sharpend
Oh, I'm really looking forward to that. Although I doubt that the M5 in 3V is going to be a significant upgrade over the Sleipner version. Lionsteel's Sleipner knives are already great and the advantages of 3V shouldn't be that significant since they're rather similar in compositon. Sleipner is very tough, 3V is insanely tough, both keep a good edge and none of them is stainless. K390 or M4 steel would have been more interesting upgrades imo 😄
How would you rate niolox for toughness?? as I've recently bought the T5
There’s no way Sleipner holds an edge as well as 3v.
I have the m5 in sliepner is good camp knife but more for cooking, cutting paracord, nothing of importance and as an owner of br bravo in 3v, the lionsteel has been left at home for a long while. 3v miles better and not much need for maintaining. 3/4 days bushcrafting/hunting no prob touch up when you get home and it's ready for thnext sesiome
The next session
@@adamdobner1910 Sleipner lacks some vanadium carbides compared to 3V, yes, they should still be rather close in performance with 3V coming out on top. Unfortunately, Sleipner steel hasn't been tested by knifesteelnerds yet, but 'hobby-scientists' on youtube, like Cedric & Ada and outpost76 had very decent results with Sleipner.
CPM 3V is not a steel that scores high in wear resistance, but its amazing toughness allows for grinding and using it at (much) lower angles than other, less tougher steels. Since the geometry of the cutting edge is the most important factor for cutting performance / "edge retention" CPM 3V really shines when brought to a fine edge. So should Sleipner, if done right :)
An exclusive I can actually get in Europe? without setting my wallet on fire??
Love iiiiit.
I have the M4 M390 in walnut and that’s a beautiful knife now got look into getuthe M5 CPM 3v now because of you lol 😂 oh by the way DBK how do you give a knife a secondary convex? I can never figure it out and I want to do it to all my knives?
First option: Get some GOOD sharpening stones (Naniwa Professional, Shapton Glass HR, etc.) and a cheap V-edged knife to practice
Second option: Get a Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener (Ken Onion Edition) and let the machine do the work
Third option: Mousepad + sandpaper + double sided tape + very low angle and medium pressure. Forget this option if you want to grind anything other than a basic carbon steel
@@robinhardwood1593 thank you.
You're welcome :)
I was asking myself the same question about 1.5 years ago. Tried the mousepad and then decided to go for the Shapton Glass HR stones.
@@robinhardwood1593 how you get on doing it like did you manage to do the convex.
@@Jib230181 I watched some videos about hand sharpening, DBK did some as well, especially on the convexing.
There's two things I had to learn:
First, that you need good sharpening stones, not crappy 4 in 1 for 35 €. I personally like the Shapton Glass Stones in the HR variant, they sharpen great and are less expensive than the Naniwa Professional stones. It is very important that you get stones that bind the abrasives in anorganic material, like Magnesium, not organic resin!
Second: If you're doing a secondary convex you're not working on the cutting edge (at least not in the beginning) but instead you want to round off the edges right and left, where the V-grind meets the primary blade grind. Your angle is therefore in between your edge angle and the primary grind angle. If you're working on a tough steel, like CPM 3V, you will get a huge improvement when doing a narrower secondary convex than on a knife with less tougher steel (like M390). CPM 3V can take thinner edges while retaining the same strength as other steels and since edge geometry is the most important factor on cutting performance, you should put this advantage to some good use :)
Kato did a great job. I already spotted it on their site!
Yet again another bit of genuine passion on display by two excellent reviewers as for fish chefs if you like it crispy and with bits of stick left in it then GET OVER HERE😂😘👍
Loved to watch my first vid in premiere
I would like to see you guys torture test Dawson knives 3V
Man I don’t watch these for the knives I watch cause you two are funny as all fuck
It could be fun to have a collaboration with Felix Immler. He could learn you some tricks and they could… hard tried some of our best Swiss knives!
The should so a video on the Ontario sp-10.
can y’all please do the bk-18 i’m getting it for my birthday on december 24th and i would LOVE TO SEE ITS STRESS TEST
Great video, I was looking at getting one of these for a while, but wouldn’t it make more sense to make these in Magnacut since it’s a smaller knife? Isn’t 3V ideal for toughness in longer blades?
love your vids. could you do a review of the Kevin Wilkins Ryback Flatbush?
Would love to get one but sadly knives and tools don't ship to Australia 😒
I was surprised to learn that there is more than one kind of Dutch herb.
Excellent work as always guys :-) Whats the music at 4.00?
hey guys awesome video as always! you should review an esee s35vn steel!
Enjoyed the videos, however felt it a bit short. 20 minutes would seem a lot better, to get see you guys use the knives more.
"It's almost part of the fire" :D
Hey, could you guys test an Italian stiletto switchblade for bushcraft? I know it would not do great but I am just curious how much it could do
Guess General Mikkie just got me questioning if the DBK was a Good deal. . . Hope I did
Also, how mich caffeine is Mikkie on?
No shipping to Canada from Knives and Tools :-(
I'd be interested to know the Rockwell hardness
Can you guys do a video on a Daniel Winkler knife?
Music is apropro styles great.
Haha... using a WorkSharp in a video sponsored by itsjustsharp. ;) Power move.
Fun fact: when the released their M4 and advertised it to be great for bushcrafting, I pointed out, that the rounded spine isn’t very useful for scraping a firesteel. They disagreed. ^^
Epic video guys nice one!!
I bought the Leuku because of you guys! XD
Hey bros, could you please do a review on Lionsteel T5 please. Thanks in advance.
Sure has been alot of cpm3v killers coming out lately.
Thanks finally
Love it boys!
Denk dat jullie wel preppen? Leuke video misschien!
"He sounds like that when we're at the table, too." XD Also, where can I find a cowboy grill like that?
They’re pretty tough to find. I’ve seen a set on Self Reliance Outfitters, and some sellers on Etsy too, but they can be expensive. They do look great though
How are you two not in American action B movies by now?
Hello ! Try the new Extrema Ratio Satre in s600 steel!
My dream it's a lionsteel T5 in 3v 🤩🤪
Please test the Joker Nomad!!....Please?
Lionsteel, I already know!!
I am surprised you had nothing to say about this being a hollow grind. Also, If we have to change edge geometry and grind the spine of any knives to adapt them to bushcrafting, wouldn't we better off buying an already bushcraft purposed knife? I love 3v as well but this looked to me a little bit of a forced through review. I understood It's a K&T excusive, maybe that made you subconsciously a little gentle on this knife? Just a thought and anyways, you are very funny as usual and you have the best (together with Virtuovice) channel for all things knives.
Maybe they just missed out on the hollow grind, since it's so subtle. The Lionsteel M5 is not built as a bushcraft knife and for 180 €, there's certainly more interesting options out there with better blade shapes and grinds, like the Benchmade Leuku and the ESEE 4 in S35VN
I have this knife, and it is NOT a hollow grind. It's a flat saber grind.
It's hollow. Very slightly, if you put a ruler next to it, you'll see 😉
its base of the handle is a fire striker, since it allows a better grip for striking
where did you get that bbq for the fire ? I need one
Why didn you use the " ït's just sharp " method to sharpen the knife in this video?
Because all handsharpening takes longer than a machine! And we have to film asap. Cheers mate!
Great video
