I think Babymetal's most underrated aspect is it's choreographies. I really feel like it's not talked half as much as the instruments or su's voice, but imo it deserves just as much recognition. I don't think i've ever seen a group before with such refreshing and unique dances like that.
I agree with you, and from a metal band that makes it more impressive.
I don't know that their choreography is underrated. Every song is such a production it might get less comment. This band clearly puts in the work and has a ton of support behind the scenes. On stage, each number is choreographed perfectly and the band is super tight. Playing hypersonic prog rock/metal is not something you do on the fly.
I only found this band a couple of weeks ago but I'm amazed at their performance. The concept is so far-fetched: anime cosplay kawaii girls fronting death metal. But they get in character and sell it. (Slayer Moon?)
I've seen comments from haters but very few. You have to be impressed by the sheer performance art of it all. And the vocal chops and musical technique to back it up.
I agree, the choreography Is certainly not mentioned as much as Su's vocals or Moa's smile for example. But BabyMetal have always worked with world-class choreographers, and Moa-Metal deserves a lot of recognition and respect as much of the later choreography Is hers 🦊❤️🦊
I don't think it's as much their Choreography being underrated as it is that their choreography didn't used to be THIS GOOD. The Moves were on another level from that very first coy little "Jester Tilt". Then there were the seamless transitions from "Metal-Fox-Style" Moves to the Geisha-like Steps. I don't know what they changed that caused such a huge increase in performance, but it's some of the only dancing I've ever seen that made my jaw literally drop as I said "wow!" IRL.
"Catch Me If You Can" had another really cool Choregraphy moment too. I clipped it before watching this video and I figured if you see this Reply you'd enjoy it too.

Shoutout to ✨MIKIKOMETAL✨ (Mizuno Mikiko) who has been BABYMETAL'S principal choreographer since Sakura Gakuin, and still Is. She Is responsible for most of the awesome dance routines.
I love how they can go from bad ass metal chicks to suddenly having a room lighting smile.
That looks like a LOT of hard work. They make it look very natural, but there must have been hundreds of hours of work to learn that choreography so precisely.
Easy to overlook that since they make it look so easy, but they all worked thousands of hours from a very young age...a long way from things like Moa and Yui's SG audition video.
They've been dancing that choreography for years, well, except for the Avengers but they already know it by memory

The girls are skilled, they are beautiful, they put a lot of work into the choreography, and their voices are also wonderful, but I would also be interested in those who provide this extraordinary music. I don't know. Maybe, and I don't know much to know for sure if this is the case or not, they rather stay masked. I know of a few bands (Here Come The Mummies, a jazz-style funk rock band, Ghost, known for Dance Macabre, and Daft Punk being the most known one) that have not shown their faces AFAIK as of the writing of this comment. It does add some mystique to them.

They have evolved over time, like BABYMETAL itself. The proper backing band is made up of experienced session musicians and they used to wear corpse makeup before they wore masks. There is now an Eastern Kami Band and a Western Kami Band using different musicians.

In the last week I’ve became very obsessed with babymetal😂 and I’ve just been listening to loads of their songs and looking into the history of baby metal, I’m now at a weird point where I feel really sad whenever I think about them performing or their songs or something and so I have to go and listen to them again to feel better😂 i really don’t know why this is I think it’s something to do with older times and yui metal and I guess just the fact they’re so different now but not in a bad way at all, I don’t know they’ve just got all my attention right now and I’m loving it I really think I need to go to one of their concerts to get through this but I’ll have to go alone because no one I know would understand😂 I don’t know I’m thinking about it they’re performing in the UK in June so maybe I’ll go just so I can get over this weird happy sadness thing I have for them🖤❤️

i noticed that these ladies don't have much of a social media presence. they share and post things of their band but not of their personal lives. i wonder if that's their choice or if it's their record labels? maybe their label thinks their personal lives aren't the "typical" metal head life and that it would "ruin/spoil" their appeal to the fans/community. i don't care what a metal musician or fan does in their personal life. we're all free to live our lives the way we want to. there's no typical metal head life. as long as they enjoy and respect the music then they're a metal head in my book.
also, where's the love for the third performer in this video? Momoko is it? she's pretty great too. just as beautiful as Su and Moa, i'd say. performs just as great. shows a lot of enthusiasm and charisma on the stage and when interacting with the crowd. it's ok to miss Yui but that doesn't mean you gotta be a dick towards whoever was/is in her place. welcome them just like you welcomed Babymetal
It's pretty common in the J-pop and K-pop worlds that they're not allowed to have social media presence outside of their bands or onstage personae. Partly to protect them from stalkers and obsessed fans (which are MAJOR issue in the Asian pop community), and partly to help cultivate their appeal to their fans (like how many K-pop musicians aren't allowed to date anyone, because they have to maintain the illusion that any of their fans could have a chance with them, which would be hard if they're known to be married or in a relationship)
Even if the person above didn't mention this true fact of JPop/KPop norms, ever since they broke out onto the scene, they were never "typical" metalhead life types. They didn't even know about metal until they joined the group, so anyone who'd be upsetti spaghetti at them having atypical lives outside of their music... would already have a grudge against them for not hiding that they came from a pop background and didn't know metal. So that definitely wouldn't be a reason they would hide their personal lives. Just fyi.
