Great review and real world usage with pics, video, and sound! I have a Pixel XL and didn't notice the high pitch static in my videos until this comparison. Now these phones are the same price on Project Fi I might have to get the S20 because of the sound recording quality. But I do like the size(not tall and thin), pics, and (cleaner) display layout of the Pixel more.

Hey Alex, thanks for all your really good comparisons. Which android phone, in your opinion, is comming next to iphone video quality? I had the s20 but it was oversharpening and pushing colors too much.
Hard to say... I pretty much stopped filming anything with any android phone because the recordings don't look good enough ... It almost feels that we got stuck 3 years back with the video quality on android

The portrait pictures from the Pixel are the best out of any phone, legit look like they came from expensive cameras

Since Google banned any kind of beautification in camera app so with Android 11 update you can't see any beauty mode on s20 and other Samsung phone.
Note 20 ultra is wayy better

it would...but my camera can't film in 4k60fps... soooo the A-roll would look strange if I would export the video in 4k60

I'm gonna say it straight up... I stopped liking Samsung phones 2-3 years ago... almost no innovation for the S line...same cameras 3 years in a row... I don't know... it seems that the only thing samsung phones have is the great screen

Just subscribed. Good comparison. Watching on my note 10 plus. Some of them looked a bit blurry on both phones. Not sure if it was mine or that's how they came out 🤷🏽♂️ I'd like to see macro shots. I do a lot of those with the note and they come out great. Love the color saturation that the note provides, but also would like to see natural processing. How are the screens looking on the two? Huge difference?
Yeah, the s20 has a much nicer and bighter screen, no comparison.
@@RedskullPro appreciate that. I do love the screen of the Samsung phones but really liking how google is operating with these videos. I game some and watch youtube videos but really nothing special. Tired of dropping $1,100 on a phone that something like this can do almost half the price. Cameras look really good too
Where you trying not to smile when you said "wind noise" lol. Great insight to both phones Alex. Just got my Pixel 5 today and haven't had time to play. I like the Cool Temp and reproduction with the Pixel 5 but there are some cleaner photos with the S20 but with added colour. Personal preference I guess. Stay Safe..

@@RedskullPro OMG Alex.. I have learned very quickly to hide my mobile when out these days ! Just tested the 5G with Vodafone and got 236.9Mbps which isnt bad but had faster on Xperia 1ii.. Early days yet I guess. Anyway, i'll leave all testing to you my expert !
So which phone would you recommend for taking Instagram ready photos without any editing? The easiest to use with the best quality photos? We take a lot of pics of animals and close up portrait style photos for our farm.
I've had a Samsung Galaxy for years now. I currently have a Galaxy 10. My husband has a Google Pixel 3a I believe. His photos are far superior than mine. The portrait setting is beautiful & it's so easy to use. His photos are what I would call Instagram ready without any editing.

My thing is I love the fingerprint scanner on the back of the pixel phones. But I like the expandable memory on the s20. Does anyone know if you can get a glass screen protector for the s20 and the fingerprint scanner still work?
Both are very good, no ❓ question. I chose the FE, it's just a better equipped phone. Plus processing power with the 865. And I luv the 120hz display. For me the FE wins the day? Very good in depth review!

Hi! I also had problems with recording audio to pixel2 - there was background noise too. Is there also noise at pixel 5 in the room? Isn't that the sound of the street? Will be glad if you answer :)
Same hissing noise no matter where you record. I guess I should include a indoors sample for future videos

Samsung s20 did not performed well. The camera looks just like my samsung s9 camera it has the same problems.
1. On low light it has a yellow filter
2. Low light videos become unsharp
3.the video jitters a bit its not smooth
Just like my s9 ..all can be seen in the video

I thought both phones did very well , I like the colors on the pixel 5 , the S 20 had sharper pictures, I was really impressed with the pixel 5 4k 60 pfr video , with stabilation and colors saturation, I thought it was better than s20 .

Very informative comparison.
It's surprising that the low light video is sharper, more stabilized and more pleasing on Pixel5 to my eyes. If there's Pixel 6 with a 4K front facing camera and a flagship grade SoC, it'll be even more exciting.
We are gonna have to wait a year for that :)

I'v been enjoying your matter-of-fact reviews for years, and this one is no exception. Basically, the Google 5 is using three year-old hardware in the camera(s), and especially in night mode, it appears they've reached the end of the line on how to squeeze the best possible out of those lenses. Portrait photography aside, the S20 performs better across the board in still photos. Time for Google to finally update their camera hardware, I guess.

This was the Snapdragon S20. All the pictures were taken in Cambridge, ON, Canada
@@RedskullPro Alex after some days with Pixel 5 what do you think of the battery life, compared to S20? (both with high-refresh rate). The display in S20 is taller and curved on the sides, is there a big difference between the two device in comfort of use?

@@uxmax u can easily install Google services,u must downgrade to 131 and dann later u cn upgrade,i use now with latest updates,and everything works super,it s like any android phone,and my favourite untill now were the pixels...but p40 pro ist just another level...

I remember from a previous comparison that your girlfriend preferred the iPhone smooth pictures but I think the sharp skin from the Pixels give people a stronger presence, maybe less glamour but a more natural beauty.
Doing video recording by overcast days will never be good because there's not enough light to get a really good result. The same test on a bright summer day would look different for both phones.

Kind of torn. I have a Pixel 5 ordered but am not sure if I'm going to keep it. I currently use a S20 and don't love it. I've owned Samsung's for years and am just sort of getting tired of them. I especially can't stand how bad the photos blur on them when there's movement. I was hoping for more out of the Pixel 5 but Google definitely played it safe this time. It might push me to go with an iPhone instead which I don't really want to do. Decisions, decisions.

Can someone please explain how to click potrait photos coming from a google phone
it's called Live Focus, you find it in the camera app under more. You have to be a certain distance from the subject... and the phone has to say "ready"
this is like gopro vs osmo action, i like gopro for punchy social media ready content, similarly i liked the samsung in every photo video comparison except close up photos, but portrait from a distance i would pick the samsung again.

I didn't see you using night mode from rear camera on both phones at night...anyways I'm suprise pixel video is so much better than s20 both for colors & stabilization.

Awesome comparison..One thing clearly came out ....Samsung has improved its night mode significantly... Samsung with its stellar design and awesome camera will surely give nightmares for Google....Pixel inspite of good camera falters in design department.

Pixel is better in portraits and color science. Even if it's less sharper. Waiting for the camera comparison of the 4a 5g with s20 or iphone 11!

never got such blurry night shots with my pixel. something's wrong here
Take some pictures in complete darkness with the ultra wide lens and you will get grainy pictures 100%

I feel like ur skin looks more glowly on the front camera of hte pixel. The samsung, filters out your pores and makes them "cool" color(washed out grey) But its vice versa on the reear cameras.
I wanted to see this comparison, thank you. The Pixel 5 camera is kind of disappointing IMO; I wish google would just release G-Cam for other devices instead of trying to sell its own hardware. I'd buy the app.
Yeah, the Pixel doesn't have the edge as they did a few years back... at least they improved the video quality on the Pixel 5

Pixel for me overall is better. Magic from Google with 4 year old camera hardware. Amazing. Portrait are the best in class. Pixel is best point and shoot. But S20 is strong. Like always great comparison💪

for night time video Pixel 5 is pulling in more light on main and ultrawide lenses. There's no competition in beating Google's AI interpolation.
But if I would compare it to the P40 Pro for night video it would blow your mind how much better the P40 Pro is

From photographer's perspective - pixel better, the closer to raw images the better. You can edit to s20 look within seconds
the pixel 5 night video was better, and the pixel stabilization is better. also kindly record in 1080p, im not sure most people record in 4k, and usually cameras can act differently based on the resolution, i see that alot with your akaso comparison videos.
You are right...The thing is... the longer the videos are...the worst the watch time and UA-cam kills videos for bad watch time...

The Pixel 5 isn't as wide as others, better use photosphere for wider pics on the Pixel 5. To be honest, I am really disappointed by Pixel 5, as Google is using the same old h/w on their Pixel devices from the last four generations, now according to me, the iPhone 12 pro max will be the new camera king as it has the new sensor-shift image stabilization with TOF 3D LiDAR scanner. I think Google doesn't care about their Pixel devices anymore and it's high time for Google to upgrade their camera h/w...

S20 kills it according to me. So much better Dynamic Range and Sharpness.
Bruh...over sharpening and kinda fake dynamic range is what you want?
It always looks like the samsung is achieving better dynamic range by overexposing the pictures slightly... i don't know...that's what it looks to me
You need to get Mrs Redskull her own segment, maybe her opinion on tech from a female point if view, not that you need to as your content is great as it is but always that option.

I have the Pixel 5. I HATE all the noise you get in the night mode. If it wasn't for the noise the Pixel 5 would definitely take that category. This is a great comparison. You really can't go wrong with either phone

even though the pixel is still better in most cases i think they should had upgrade their sensor, if an s20 can that close i guess an iphone will be even closer . the competition is catching up and google has started to stagnate
