Talked to some very helpful tech guys in Germany (the home of Race Chip) and both said that the Race Chip software takes a while when working with the MOPAR ECU to remap the fuel/power curves for the Jeep. It can take several hours -- or "up to 200 miles" of ordinary driving -- for the remapping to be 100% completed, although drivers WILL notice an almost immediate difference on the "seat of the pants dyno." The reason that I mention this is that it'd be more effective (as a testing metric) to do several runs with the Race Chip tuner having never been enabled to get a performance base line. Take your Jeep out -- before installing the Race Chip Tuner -- and get an established baseline time 0-60: Say, 7.18 seconds. Then install the Race Chip tuner and drive it for several days giving it a chance to complete its integration with the MOPAR sensors, ECU, etc. Then do three or four launches with the tuner, average them, and compare results again. When you power the Race Chip system down (e.g., turn it off), there is still going to be a residual "ghost" of the former fuel map, and it will take a while for the Jeep to completely revert to its pre-chipped, factory configuration: It's not "Instant on/off," so running with the tuner on/off/on/off like a light-switch will have the net result of blurring the baseline and making the difference in the two states (e.g., "tuned" or "un-tuned") seem less dramatic than it really is.
Those are really great points! Wouldn't have thought of that. I just picked up a 2.0 2020 JL unlimited and am strongly considering this mod. Thanks to everyone involved here.
So I understand correctly... $399.00 for 26-27mph in eco mode, 30+ mph in sport mode while "coasting" and race mode which saves 0.06 seconds on 0-60. I really like your videos but I don't think I'm sold on the tuner.

Hi Matt: I just discovered your channel and have been watching your videos since the first. I live in Greece and have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon 2.8 CRD. I have installed the Power chips module and I can say I'm very excited with the results. Other modifications include also the installation of silicon turbo hoses and an air filter from Pipercross. The Jeep has noticeable performance over stock which is 200HP and 460 NM torque. Race chip adds 56HP and 114 Nm. Turbo lag is eliminated. Fuel consumption is also reduced but not significantly averaging 24-25mpg. The Jeep is now over-boosting at a point that needs to upgrade the intercooler. My dilemma is that now I'm on the way to getting a JL Rubicon, and in Europe comes with the 2.2 Diesel engine or the 2.0 Petrol fuel Turbo engine. So which one to choose? I think diesel engines are great; they require less maintenance and the diesel price per lt or gallon is considerably lower in Greece than petrol. Concerning your 2.0 Turbo Jeep, 22-33 Mpg is impressive, and was wondering if is that your best average figure?
I ordered and installed the same unit in my 2021 JLU 2.0L Rubicon. I had a similar performance experience as you with one notable exception. Let me lead with I love the performance of the RaceChip and its ease of installation. However I don’t like the bad engineering design that can lead to a catastrophic failure and loss of the vehicle. After having the chip installed for almost a month with it securely mounted horizontal on top of my fuse and relay box at the back corner of the engine bay; I went out for a day of Southern mudding. As is typical, I had a lot of mud to clean off all over the Jeep including the underbody and engine bay. I pressure washed the underbody and used a normal household hose in the engine bay; careful to only spray those components with mud and not at the top of the engine anywhere near the intake, the fluid reservoirs, and any electrical components, including the racechip and electrical fuse box. There was a very minor amount of drops that splashed in the engine bay, but I minimized it as I always do. For those of you that have never got your Jeep, body panel deep in wet mud, you don't completely understand that you have to clean the engine and engine bay with the amount of mud that gets caked and stuck in areas around the engine. Aware of the RaceChip and worried about not getting it wet, I wiped it off after I was done. I didn't notice but one or two drops splashed on the unit. A few hours later in the evening I was driving to the store on a 45mph road when at 2 minutes as the RaceChip startup delay ran out, my Jeep abruptly shut down while at speed and wouldn't restart. After several minutes of trying to diagnose the problem, I turned off the RaceChip through it's Bluetooth connection. My Jeep started up immediately without any problems. It took several hours of garage diagnose, but the LCD display is not water sealed, and not water resistant at all. Just moisture had wicked under the LCD screen and brought moisture to the attached circuit board. It was only after dismantling the unit and allowing the moisture in the LCD circuit to dry (there was no visable moisture inside the unit, just a discolored LCD screen from moisture in it. After the LCD was dry, the RaceChip worked as it had before. My problem is this is unacceptable that I can't go mudding or worse ford a river or stream for fear of a single drop of water getting on the RaceChip unit and shutting down my engine in the middle of a a river. That's bad! That could cause the total loss of the vehicle.
Very interesting feedback and well worth the read, It would be beneficial to keep it watertight then in the future, I will have to look more into the location of mine!

Does the Eco-mode improves MPG at low speed (traffic jams, school-zones and rich stop sign areas). These are my primary MPG killers. I suspect the factory tuned it this way to get more power off the bottom and reduce the turbo lag, but I don't need it when stuck in traffic - just want to save gas.
Wow. Very interesting. I drove a 2022 Lexus NS twin turbo that has Eco/Sport mode buttons. It made me really wonder why on earth my Jeep does not have this feature? What are the downsides of installing this gadget? Is it reversible - for example would I be able to re-set my Jeep back to the factory settings if for example my dealer freaks out or something doesn't look right? My 2023 Jeep is 2500 miles and has plenty of warranty. It would suck to lose it all.
My 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK two-door yes being about a 789 pounds lighter I meant to say 7800 lb letter 6p manual will do 0 to 60 and 5.8 seconds cuz I put a tuner on it I change the field air mixer ratio when it was brand new they manufacture claim says 6.7 second's/60 mph But of course I have to bang The shifter Hard into 2nd gear ⚙️ right At Red line basically no more than 40 mph for 1st gear ⚙️ read line around 6800Rpm's And it will do over 7000 RPMs Now since I've completely tuned it fuel to Air ratio change to Ware it's actually laying down 285 HP And 260 lbs of torque At The actual wheels rear tires in 2 wheel drive high obviously because I'm definitely assuming that you already know that the power and torque ratings are at The Crank 3.6 Pentastar 285/260 at Crank stock without the tune 4 door being much heavier than My 2 door JK
Two things I hear talked about a LOT on the forums include the Pedal Commander and the Tazer. Both seem to have great reviews (especially the Tazer - the guy that develops it is extremely diligent about responding to questions in the forums). I don't know much about these products though. Am I correct that they all 3 have different functions? PC for the pedal response curve (like you mentioned), Tazer for features and programming, and this RaceChip for the tune? Is there any overlap in the feature sets between these, or are they all distinctly different?
I had a 2014 Rubicon the best fuel mileage is ever got was 16 mpg. I also live in PA outside of Pittsburgh. I went from that to a 4Runner which got a little better fuel mileage and bigger vehicle. I am tossing around about going back to a Jeep. Do the new Rubicon’s with the 3.6 get better fuel mileage?
Btw, You had a very nice video about bumpers that for some reason I can't find. I'm looking for a good functional JL bumper to maximize protection against deer collisions. Mopar bumper is tempting with LEDs and easy installation, but it does not seem to offer much protection? Any suggestion?
Just started following you and love your videos. Wanted to know if you can install the race chip with the taser JL chip installed. Do they interfere with each other??? Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.
My 2021 JLUW 2.0 on 34” with a 2.5 metal cloak GC lift driving from San Francisco to San Diego I get 27 mpg average. So this is not for me but thanks anyway.
I have 2018 wrangler unlimited sport jlu, 3.6 engine, with 70k miles w/ 2.5 suspension lift w/ 35’’, would you recommend the super chip tuner? I’ve been learning about jeeps as I go.
so Im mostly use to the V6 from these and that was comfortable with 87 or 85 ... sorry if I missed it but what octane you running with this tune ... is this motor same as the alfas with 91oct. recommended min. ...
I noticed it doesn't shift at the red line. Does the tuner help with that or is it still short of the red line? A turbo sure responds well to a tuner. Do you think the 3.6 would do as well? 2021 Gladiator Rubicon on 37's asking...
I think the thing that turns me off about the unit are the "3 flavors". You can buy these at 3 different prices where the HP supposedly goes up as you pay more. I'd bet money that each unit uses the exact same chip, has the exact same capability, but the license limits what you have access to. Now, this is happening in a world where there's a bike manufacturer that installs heated handles on all their bikes but disables them unless you pay a monthly fee, so I guess I shouldn't get too irritated about it. I think we can all agree that +.06 seconds 0-60 isn't +60 HP, at least not at these levels. My guess is the unit mostly changes throttle input, which would explain why the eco mode seems to be effective. We lose most of our average MPG by stabbing the gas even for short intervals, so if you use 80% throttle and the unit sends 40%, your gas mileage will certainly improve. Finally, Diablosport, a domestic manufacturer of tuners here in the US, said back in 2020 that there really wasn't much wiggle room for these motors. Search UA-cam for "DiabloSport Tuning: The 2.0T Jeep and how we're making it better". The main reason is that the boost is already at 26 pounds from the factory, which is crazy high for stock.
What’s your overall mpg? And how fast are you going on the highway to get 26-27mpgs? I’ve put just over 2300 miles on my 2.0 JLUR and I’m averaging like 20.2mpg now most of that has been interstate averaging speeds between 73-80ish I would say. I know jeeps are great for fuel but I thought I would be doing a little better than I am as far as mpgs.
Does this tuner change the throttle sensitivity like the Banks pedal monster does. I am also curious about the 2 L rough idle start up. Does this tune help with that. I also have a 2 L turbo and the start up is a little rough and RPMs tend to bounce up and down just a little bit on cold start. After about a minute and a half or so or warm up the throttle dies down and then runs really smooth. What’s your experience with that?
lol my 2022 JLU gets 15 MPG. I keep hearing ppl talk about getting 20+ and wonder how that happens for them. My 3.6 has less than 3k miles on it and still only 15 MPG
I have the 4xe, and I can say it's impressive, especially offroading. The low end TQ is unbeatable in the 4xe. Around town it's a perfect jeep, but if you're buying it for long hauls or a longer commute. Get a diesel. I have a 22 diesel ram and a 22 4xe. They both have their own purposes.
My 2022 Whilys 2L extreme recon always 15 mpg and I’m not racing, driving like an old man. Idk how you guys getting 22-26-28 on your wranglers. Maybe I need to switch something off somewhere?!
Don't think I'd add a tuner just for that little bit of speed saving 6,000 of a second and that little bit of MPG might benefit over the long run but having to deal with taking it into the dealer and having to shut that thing off or remove it so they don't panic when they see it that's another different story
So let me get this straight. 1.2 mpg fuel consumption improvement, and six one hundredths of a second improvement in accelerating from 0-60 mph. And all for just $500! Now don't get me wrong, I'm well impressed that my JL does 0-60 in 7 seconds, that's pretty good for a small end terrace house on wheels with the aerodynamics of a breeze block. But .06 seconds quicker doesn't exactly blow my socks off. And as for 1.2 mpg better fuel economy, if I did 10,000 miles a year I'd save about 25 gallons, so the unit would pay for itself in three years. I reckon I could do better than that by going on a diet!
Maybe the $240 starter option would be worth it? If the 20% claim for the GTS gives 1.2 mph (maybe more on long highway journeys) then the 15% claim for the S at half the price seems a good option. And then I remind myself that I didn't buy the Wrangler for its fuel economy, so what on earth am I trying to achieve here? I bought the Wrangler because I'm a 56 year old idiot who lives in a country full of boring cars. My Mojito green American wally-machine makes people smile, whatever the fuel economy :)
Checked out their website and it appears they only offer the XLR for the 3.6 engine JL. With that said, do you guys happen to know if the XLR would work on a manual trans and have the same effect as with the auto trans?
That would be sweet if the app worked with Carplay or Android Auto so you could change modes on your touchscreen instead of having the phone mounted up like that. Maybe someday... 🙂

Really wish the jeep would, they are reversible and it really depends on the dealer…
Good comment!
You are absolutely correct, the tazer is mostly to enable features, the pedal commander and tuner will work well in conjunction with eachother!
I’m new to all of this… I just ordered this exact tuner. Will I be able to use this to program my wheel size, to fix my speedometer?
You’ll have to adjust the computer for tire size with a Tazer or similiar set up
@@DIRTROADCRED thanks man. How on earth are you getting 27-28 mpg on 37s?
I only get 21 on stock wheels…
I had a 2014 Rubicon the best fuel mileage is ever got was 16 mpg. I also live in PA outside of Pittsburgh. I went from that to a 4Runner which got a little better fuel mileage and bigger vehicle. I am tossing around about going back to a Jeep. Do the new Rubicon’s with the 3.6 get better fuel mileage?
They do alright, I would say 17 or 18 is average
Btw, You had a very nice video about bumpers that for some reason I can't find. I'm looking for a good functional JL bumper to maximize protection against deer collisions. Mopar bumper is tempting with LEDs and easy installation, but it does not seem to offer much protection? Any suggestion?
Yes I will be running the Motobilt bumpers!
Any info on using it in 4xe? Eco on Hwy is what would be interesting.
Not sure on the 4xe I might reach out and see!
Really wished my Rubicon 4xe got this kinda mpg on long road trips when just using gas
It would work well on long trips!
So when are you going to get the Z Automotive Tazer JL? I think you would really like the MODS on it.
Soon! I had one of those in my gladiator and loved it!
Thoughts on the Paxon supercharger for the 3.6 v6?
The only superchargers I have run on a 3.6 have been ripp so far!
@@DIRTROADCRED Just figuring it is a more economical way to increase the HP over a V8. Don't get me wrong, would like the V8, just not the pricetag.
Just started following you and love your videos. Wanted to know if you can install the race chip with the taser JL chip installed. Do they interfere with each other??? Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.
They shouldn’t interfere with eachother!
@@DIRTROADCRED thank you. Definitely ordering one.
Will this void the factory warranty??
It depends, this would have to directly cause an issue. The
My 2021 JLUW 2.0 on 34” with a 2.5 metal cloak GC lift driving from San Francisco to San Diego I get 27 mpg average. So this is not for me but thanks anyway.
That’s awesome!
I have 2018 wrangler unlimited sport jlu, 3.6 engine, with 70k miles w/ 2.5 suspension lift w/ 35’’, would you recommend the super chip tuner? I’ve been learning about jeeps as I go.
Superchips would do well with the 3.6!
Can you use it on the v6 and is their any worries with causing Mechanical issues with the motor
This is for the 2.0!
so Im mostly use to the V6 from these and that was comfortable with 87 or 85 ... sorry if I missed it but what octane you running with this tune ... is this motor same as the alfas with 91oct. recommended min. ...
I run 87 most of the time, some fills I’ll do 91 or 93
I noticed it doesn't shift at the red line. Does the tuner help with that or is it still short of the red line? A turbo sure responds well to a tuner. Do you think the 3.6 would do as well? 2021 Gladiator Rubicon on 37's asking...
Still a little shy of red line, for the 3.6 I would recommend the pedal commander style throttle enhancer!
This claims 60 pound feet of torque and up to 30 horsepower, I can tell you it doesn’t adjust throttle response either, I’m happy with it so far!
Is this compatible or even recommended for the JL's manual transmission
I’d have to look into it a bit more!
I should also state that it’s brand new. have you seen a break in period for the 2Ls where it will get slightly better as it gets broken in?
My highway speed is around 65-70
Does this tuner change the throttle sensitivity like the Banks pedal monster does. I am also curious about the 2 L rough idle start up. Does this tune help with that. I also have a 2 L turbo and the start up is a little rough and RPMs tend to bounce up and down just a little bit on cold start. After about a minute and a half or so or warm up the throttle dies down and then runs really smooth. What’s your experience with that?
This doesn’t have the throttle enhancer, I haven’t had any rough idle at start up yet!
It sounds like all it’s doing is increasing the the sensitivity of the throttle
2 months ago i got the 3.6L gas wrangler which one is better? please let me know regular or Prime gas
For the 3.6 I would say just regular !
Thank you for answer bro 😎
I got 2023 Jlur v6 3.6l this runner will work on?
This works on the 2.0 turbo!
lol my 2022 JLU gets 15 MPG. I keep hearing ppl talk about getting 20+ and wonder how that happens for them. My 3.6 has less than 3k miles on it and still only 15 MPG
Haha!
Do you guys have any experience with JK tuners for the 3.6. It’s a 2018 JKU. Any info would help
What kind of tuner? Engine?
@@DIRTROADCRED 3.6L engine Manual trans 2018 JKU Sahara. Everything is stock at the moment
What kind of highway gas mileage were you getting with the XR package without the tuner?
23-24 mpg on the highway!
@@DIRTROADCRED that is pretty good for being on 35s.
Great video . Very helpful . Ty for the link to this video. I just got the 2021 2 door rubicon turbo. What tires do u have on your jeep? Sub and liked
Thanks for watching! I had 35 inch BFG ko2 in this video!
Have to check it out for the Diesel and if it will fubar me here in CA for smog checks.
Good call!
@@DIRTROADCRED actually just placed my order for a 2023 Jeep Rubicon EcoDiesel.
What about the 4xe I would like to go 0 to 60 in 3.5
That would be neat!
Do you know if this tune is specifically tuned for a specific octane rated fuel? In CA, we only have 87-91
I’m running 87 but think 91 would wake it up!
The Turbo incapsulator?
Actually the amba fashion lunar wane shaft!
@@DIRTROADCRED Ahhh, The 2 spd version no doubt. Extra cost option.👍👍😎🇺🇸
My 2022 Whilys 2L extreme recon always 15 mpg and I’m not racing, driving like an old man. Idk how you guys getting 22-26-28 on your wranglers. Maybe I need to switch something off somewhere?!
That’s interesting! I’m surprised by how high I can get!
Whats the cellphone mount youre using?
This is a bulletpoint mount!
Don't think I'd add a tuner just for that little bit of speed saving 6,000 of a second and that little bit of MPG might benefit over the long run but having to deal with taking it into the dealer and having to shut that thing off or remove it so they don't panic when they see it that's another different story
I’m enjoying it, I’ll see how it does in the long haul!
I’m thinking longer highway trips will yield much better results, I am happy with it so far!
My thoughts exactly Mike not worth the 500 bucks... but to each their own.
@@DIRTROADCRED And that's all that matters my friend.
And of course I meant mpg, not mph!
Does this tuner work on the V6?
This one is only for the 2.0
Can this turner run on a 4xE?
Haven’t confirmed that!
Do they make any for the 392?
Not at this time!
Does it work on a 3.6L?
This unit is just for the 2.0
Please race a 392
We can race yours!
Now you need the exhaust upgrade lol!
I’m thinking a small axle back delete!
@@DIRTROADCRED Very nice! Project is great so far!
“Get out there and earn yours” … sorry if I sound ignorant, but, earn what?
Love your videos, keep ‘em coming!
Earn your Dirt Road Cred!
Dyno?
Maybe one day!
Not available for the JT
Correct only with the 2.0
Ok. Did i miss something. You spent 350+ dollars on a "tune" that only gave .06 of a sec. That time difference could just equate to road resistance.
Was hoping for more performance, 😢
Do you even drive on dirt roads?
Check out some other videos on this channel!
Worthy investment.
I think so!
Checked out their website and it appears they only offer the XLR for the 3.6 engine JL. With that said, do you guys happen to know if the XLR would work on a manual trans and have the same effect as with the auto trans?
The throttle enhancer will work on any jl it just changes the output of the throttle response!
That would be sweet if the app worked with Carplay or Android Auto so you could change modes on your touchscreen instead of having the phone mounted up like that. Maybe someday... 🙂
That would be awesome!
👍
🤙🤙🤙
So basically it's great for saving gas. But doesn't give you any measurable amount of power.
Want power buy the 4XE, that thing has great getup and go.
Tweaked interest from mpg perspective, but sport, really?
It seems like a good happy medium setting!
How much was this😮. Hmm I'll pass.
Fried..
😡
Interesting. Seems like witchcraft. Following. 👍👍😎🇺🇸
Lol I hope not, it seems pretty promising so far!
Warranty bye bye
It all depends!
Your 0-60 demo talked you out of a sale. Meh…..
My opinion on the one has changed after using it over the past year!
Definitely not worth the money 👎👎👎
I've been pretty happy with mine!
