- In the fourth of our Survivor: Winners at War post game deep dives, Rob Cesternino sits down with the winner of Survivor: Africa, eleventh-place finisher of Survivor: All-Stars, and eighteenth-place finisher of Survivor: Winners at War Ethan Zohn to talk through his entire 9 day journey in the game and 25 days on the Edge of Extinction before his elimination at the second re-entry challenge on day 35. They take questions from the listeners and discuss everything from his time on the initial Sele tribe, how he felt aligning early with Danni, Parvati, and Boston Rob, his blindside on day 9, and his battle on the Edge of Extinction. Ethan was a 45-year-old keynote speaker from Hillsborough, New Hampshire when he went to go out to play this time.

ive never seen a single bad thing said about ethan, even online, thats crazy, almost everybody on survivor gets hate i see 0 for ethan, amazing person
@Wild Card Watson ive never seen that, and tbh not voting for tony is asinine, but the only fans ive seen being toxic are the natalie and michelle ones
Didn’t people also give him flack for allegedly cheating on Jenna?
I’ve seen people question him during Africa for the way he and big tom treated Clarence over and over when Clarence apologized for eating the extra food and didn’t do anything else
@@adamsbriee6330 That had racial undertones to me. A black man being called a boy an old southern white man? Then the white man threatens to kill the black man? Idk how people saw it 20 years ago, but I saw it for the first time this year and immediately thought Tom was a racist bigot.
I love how Adam still is the guy that knows survivor. "Most of us didn't know edge effected the game until Adam came"
Can we all agree that just hearing Ethan talk about anything makes us all uncontrollably smiley? This man has the most infectious happiness around
Literally lol at work just playing back every 5 minutes
Yellow is actually a pretty good color for darker complexions
Thanks for pointing this out. Especially as a lighter complexion cartoon character. This stuck out big time when both Rob and Ethan kept saying NO ONE looks good in yellow.
Ethan just lights up the whole world. He wants to podcast with you, Rob. DO IT.
Ethan, Yul, Adam sounds like my dream pondarosa room.
Rob, this was a great interview. Ethan is such a great guy, and, will always be one of my favorite players! Despite all the challenges life has thrown at him, he remains a class act!! Rob, I love that you have always been super invested in Survivor. Your first season, Amazon, always stays in my top five seasons, and, I've seen them all, from the start!
rob's comment about mike white at 52:00 is maybe the funniest thing he's ever said
Thank you for a great interview. Could you please invite Yul for an interview!!
do you think he listened to your comment and did the interview with you, or do you think he already has it planned loll?
Good interview 👍
Just listened to your Adam Klein interview.. best survivor interview so far.. what a nice guy
I am loving these deep dives. Thank you very much!
Ethan has been my favorite since his first season! He is wonderful.
DAMN I FORGOT ETHAN WAS ON AMAZING RACE WITH JENNA
This is a really good interview! Ethan is my favorite Survivor winner... who has been voted out twice.
1:42:21: Ethan better be on S50! I would be cheering for him all the way!
Ethan Zohn has perfect attributes!
Right?
Would be fun to see all the winners play again and see how it turns out
The most handsome Survivor contestant ever... too bad the Rob - Parv - Ethan alliance didn't last long enough, they were great!
Tru dat, I would have been happy even if only one of them made it far
Blame Danni 🤬🤬
I didn't know Ethan much going in. Was a bit pissed he voted Natalie. But after watching the podcast he's such a genuine relatable guy, like him. Agree with him on the point where I could never do the antics like Denise to fake cry and put on the whole act for a blindside. Wouldn't have that in me. Although I enjoy watching others do it for TV purposes.
He is a top tier old school winner. Survivor Africa is a gem.
I know your comment is old but if you never got around to watching survivor Africa, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. Ethan is the perfect example of what not only a survivor player should be, but what a person should strive to be. Totally deserved the win, and the season is good enough that knowing the winner going in does not ruin the experience.
how was ethan able to bring that machete in his luggage.
OnePiece Lover IKR
Being white
Fellow One piece watcher?👀👀
@@bigmoneycape more of a reader :)
50 mins into the podcast, i really hope ethan talks more about how he prepared
Natalie won the sideshow, edge of extinction. Tony won Survivor
I wasn't a particularly big fan of Winners at War, but it's so great to see Ethan in good spirits after everything he's gone through.
Woah, I can't believe I'm older than you were your second time playing.
Zaddy Ethan
i love ethan
I feel like the divide between old school and new school divides at season 20, so everyone below is old school and everyone above is new school
I wish they had divided old school vs new school
ROB BRINGING UP MIKE WHITES FILMS AGAIN LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO
no, we don’t talk about the emoji movie here 😂
I love Ethan but if you wanna be technical he absolutely did something wrong.....he aligned himself with arguably the two biggest targets in the game and made it completely known that Rob and Parv would be and numbers 2 and 1 for the entirety of their time....I get why he was stuck to them but if he would have spent less time with Parv and Rob and formed an alliance they wasn’t entirely old school he would have had a much better shot.
His eviction came out of left field. I wish we saw more of what happened.
I'd say the only way to truly use the edge of extinction would mean if you get voted out on purpose with the intent to use the edge. I feel like just getting voted out and coming back into the final 5 or 6 and auto getting into the final 3 isn't really a good use of edge.
Ethan is the GOAT !
I Love Ethan, yet I think he should have voted for Tony
Does Ethan live in front of those draws?
ikr!
Ethan is so goddamn handsome
I don’t know why this just popped up in my mind, but when Parvati went into that immunity challenge before she left, she could’ve done something. If she had gotten the vibe that she needed to, she could’ve used her 3(after buying the nullifier) and Michelle’s 1, they could’ve boughten an advantage.
I’m so confused by what you are even trying to say Michele was not going to help Parv her and Wendell and Nick absolutely has a deal before the show ...Michele said point blank she just wanted Parvs tokens when she got voted out. That’s it.
No exactly with the amount of fire tokens she had she could’ve bought an idol. The token menu said it cost 4 tokens and Michele could’ve helped too but Michele didn’t really want to stay with Parvati
ethan blames adam even tho adam didn't even vote him out oof
I think it's Adam's fault. Adam's paranoia and sneakiness led for Ben, Denise, Jeremy & Michelle to go against their supposed Rob blindside and vote Ethan out because of old school affiliation. The New School wanted Rob vs. Adam to clash out right after Ethan vote out. Ethan's vote-off suddenly became the smokescreen. And then the SWAP happened.
Ronel this is so true
Christopher Minott I don't think that's true. Adam said multiple times in his Deep Dive that he wanted to go far in the game with Boston Rob, and he had an alliance with Ethan
Natalie deserve your vote
Try teaching children on a zoom call.
As a juror, I don't understand. Why does being the greatest manipulator take precedence over having the greatest character and ability to win the challenges? Why not vote for the person you admire the most? Or is being the most devious what people value above all else?
Stress-Free K because you want to have strong people before merge so you DONT go to tribal council, where YOU can be voted out. Have a strong team and bam, you’ll make it to merge. Then do what you want
@@Sid-od1yd I'm sorry. I added, "As a juror, ..." to make my question more clear. However, even in life or even "Survivor", I would rather have trustworthy people as my allies (or in the case, as those I would vote for) rather than people who are great at deceiving others. Ethan admits that Natalie was someone he got to know. She was a great and honest person. Also, being on The Edge of Extension was a valid part of the game to consider. And that he felt Denise's ability at deception as a level or two beyond what he's capable or even wanting to achieve. Yet still, he went along with everyone else and voted to give $2mil to the person who won the game by being the most deceitful of all. Why, why, why?
Stress-Free K the people in the game get to decide the criteria for who should get their vote. Most of them believe the person who was in control should get respect. Not everyone thinks that way but that is perfectly fine because they make their own rules.
@@jeffkaplan6284 that's exactly my point. Survivor has given the jury the opportunity to change the game. To decide if their entire time on living on the Edge and mightily struggling to re-enter "the game" would matter. Why would they not also reward that experience? Especially in today's world, why wouldn't good and strong character matter?
You are right. In the past, having physically and mentally phenomenal survival skills were treated as a threat.
But this time "the game" gave people an option. However, Queen Sandra was right. There was no value in weathering the awesome inequities of The Edge. Because she must have internally knew that if given the option, the greatest survivor of The Edge still never stood a chance.
And with all of their children watching. The jury still could not vote for the game player with the greatest physical and moral acumen of them all. What lessons are they really teaching their children? And why would even Ethan think he stood a chance?
Stress-Free K they understand that it’s a game so they feel the need to make the winner the player who played it the best. Most of the jury members don’t like the edge so they don’t think Natalie deserves the win even if they are better friends with her.
Zaddy alert ; )
The Ethan Zohn wandoff is an all-time classic
i don’t approve of pregame alliances as they devalue the game
Preferably people wouldn't pre-game, but a lot of them are in it for the money and not the title. Michele basically said that it's stupid to not pre-game if you're in an all returner season in her AMA on Reddit.
@Wild Card Watson "They need to make the cast more secretive" THANK YOU.
@@fianle welp I lost some credibility for Michele lowkey cuz pregaming takes away the authenticity.
@@entertainer_ev2747 What do you expect? If others are going to pregame even if you don't agree with it, you should do it to or you're getting voted out early. It's just natural to form alliances with people you have known for years
