Say what you want about Lightfall, but for me personally this fight is very emotional, I did the original Leviathan raid way back then, and me finding out that we were fighting a robot was mind blowing, so fighting the real Calus and killing him for real felt like I was killing and old rival
i loved his before disciple like personality, the duality dungeon gave him a deeper personality, even after this huge transition i still love the og calus, basically just our sweet emperor who gave us loot for free just to make him some favors on the leviathan. aka the raids (excluding base leviathan since we actually challenged him there)
I love the voice acting and characters in this game. But my favorite cutscene was when The Witness is angered and scares Calus. That cutscene was so good to me.
I honestly don’t like how they decided to use one of my favorite characters in the franchise as a simple henchmen for the Witness. Calus to me seemed too self serving and prideful to not at least attempt to challenge the witness with wit and deceit. To me it would’ve been cooler if he decided to betray the witness once he got all of his new toys and reinvigorated and basically used the gaurdians like he did before to “usher” Val Ca’our out of the Leviathan but I guess that’s just me missing the big party guy and his challenges in the Leviathan.
It wouldn’t make sense for his character to betray the Witness. Since day one that we met him, he’s been gunning to join the Darkness and the Black Fleet
I really wished his fight was more of a callback to Leviathan than just a a big colossus/ gladiator. It's like they took all the stuff that made Calus an interesting character and threw it out the window
@@Auzzymandias I think those big guys, even if regular enemies, are kinda "traditional cabal style" warriors, so that's why Calus went the same. But he totally would be cooler if he had his own tricks. Like if he would, idk, summoning wardogs like those in Please Gardens, by clapping his hands the way he was teleporting us to his Shadow Realm
@@IBroughtDiv Oh that is neat! What does he say for that? Is it the same as the Shadow dialogue? If its not then that means they have 3 separate dialogues for it. I wonder if there was anything else like that we missed in the past? I wonder if other titles such as the black armory ones or chronicler ones would ever get something like that? I don't have either of those, but makes me wonder about if Bungie will throw nods towards older title holders.
There is special dialogue for having the shadow title but it isnt in this fight. in the first mission if you have the title equipped he says “Is that you my shadow” instead of “is that you my tenacious little guardian”
Tbh I don’t see there being more disciples now. Witch queen brought us the first and lightfall seems like it will the be last. Unless we see perhaps all 3 of them reborn in final shape at the same time in the campaign or even raid I think there all gone. Xivu kinda is one but at the same time he’s main thing is being the hive god of war. There is potential for a 4th but if anything I see all 3 being reborn if anything. Final shape seems to be about the witness and I see him taking the place of the disciples
@@Randaline_ So I digged around and found a cut part of that piece only, it's called Tyrant Overthrown (Tension), and now I'm gonna loop it, since it's so calming
I wish we got to see more of him, but honestly I think Calus’ arc in lightfall is was really well handled. After witnessing the darkness he’s been blindly trying to serve it, hoping to gain power and find purpose in life without having to face the consequences for his failures as a father and emperor. That blind faith in the darkness is shaken when he meets us and witnesses our incredible deeds that we achieved with what he believes is an inferior power. As the pyramids arrive and he communes with the darkness it continues to disappoint him while the guardians continue to impress and entertain him. He’s very conflicted between us and the witness, but as the fleet closes in he refuses to give up the belief he’s held in the darkness for centuries, and does all he can to earn the witness’s favor. In the end the witness “rewards” him with a new body and resonant powers, but this too is a disappointment to him because in spite of these powers, he’s lost all those he considers his friends, his subjects no longer hold any real loyalty or admiration for him, and are merely mindless slaves to the witness. His new flagship is soulless and unwelcoming despite his best efforts to decorate it like the leviathan, and truthfully he actually lost more power than he had while he ruled leviathan. He also lost his own free will, and was forced to be nothing more than a tool for the witness. In lightfall we see Calus is clearly depressed and frustrated that despite getting everything he thought he wanted, he’s more unhappy than ever, and anytime he voices his disappointment, the witness shuts him down instantly. He finds the last bit of joy in his life the same way he had for years, by pitting himself against us and creating challenges for us to face. The happiest we see him during lightfall is during his fated battle with us, where he holds on for as long as possible to keep enjoying the experience, in spite of the fact that he knows he’s going to die. And in his last moments, he finally faces his past regrets and dies thinking of his wife. Very poignant and well written. I wish it was a bigger focus during the story.
He could toe to toe in The Witness ship battling 6 guardians with Nezarec, instead being pathetic campaign endboss..even in Legendary difficulty Calus wasnt even big of a deal.
Aw look at this destiny player over here, calling a epic campaign boss "easy and pathetic" because he used a meta weapon and made a one hit build, sorry if destiny is "too easy" for sweats like you who waste 1000 hours of their life to get a 1+ damage on a gun, go play valorant some more
I think Calus was done justice in lightfall. Best part of the story by far. Him being used as a disposable pawn by the witness after dedicating so much of his time to it is a fitting end. Him ultimately choosing the witness over us was his greatest mistake
@@EmmyEntropy2000 Yet as the boss he could be.. more than just a boss-hp Cabal soldier. Like yeah, died like true Cabal, but it doesn't mean he must fight like the regular one
