I don't get the hate either. Seems like a lot of people never heard of drone metal. And a female fronted drone band is a rare thing that should be cherished. Saw these guys open up for Sunn O))) and they did a great job.
I’ve yet to see a single hate comment, just supportive people saying there’s hate lol
People who disliked this don't deserve Bjork, Electric Wizard, Brutus, Swans, Daughters, and all the other weird bad ass bands. This chick is fireee
The reminded me of Godflesh.
She makes me want to sing. So glad I saw them live at Daughters.
I caught tat set in Boston. This band is so much better live.
I'm really surprised at the amount of negative reviews. Big Brave is a very original band and they hit that sweet spot together when things are really cranking.
Sadly it seems that people tends to hate what they dont get right away.
@@abon1364 deescalate, bud. No need to accuse anyone of mental problems, ok?
The fact they are original doesn´t mean I must like them.
@@Targanar Of course not, but originality shouldn't be derided either. I personally don't like every innovative band purely based on their originality alone - but I usually at least respect what they're trying to do, and aren't negative towards them, which I think is all that's being said here.
It's extremely UNoriginal. This project is a jank knockoff of Swans. If this band doesn't admit that its thesis is based on Swans, then you'll know they aren't just thieves but also liars.
One of the best bands at the moment, really atmospheric and crushing ❤️
This is great!!!, drone music will allways be a cathartic experience that resonates through the emotions towards the soul. I love to embrace the holy state of reverberating, crushing sound that bands like this evoke in me.
Me too
Well said! Feel the same
I love it! Emotional vocals and lots of noise! Reminds me of Early Bjork and My Bloody Valentine. Yes!
Jennifer Skye Phoenix
👍
I keep finding gold on KEXP. Idles, Bambara, Emma Ruth Rundle, Big Brave...
A lot of sad people with nothing constructive to say, featured below. An original sound, honest passion, and a totally refreshing female vocalist featured above. Keep it up guys, lots of potential!
"Pretending my comment will be at the top".
Domicio shut the fuck up
@@domicio1577 got your back ✌️
This is so awesome. I actually found BIG BRAVE through The Body split they did. I definitely have to see them live when they come through again.
Like this band a lot, message is pure ...shes not wearing vans, shes not wearing carhartt hat etc they are not made by producers , they musicians ,tune is heavy and modest with soft voice ...wish them good future and lots of ambitious projects !
Saw them live in Málaga, Spain last friday and it was awesome. Quite an immersive, beautiful trip ❤
"This drone metal band is too slow and monotonous!" - a bunch of utter tools in the comments
What an amazing performance. pure bliss.
Fortunately, the angry comments have been pushed far down the list by positive comments now. Plenty of awesomeness to dig into here. Love it! If it's not your thing, maybe don't waste everyone's time telling the rest of us😉
Wow! Crushing with female vocals. Really loving it. Reminds me of early Swans, but a little less punishing because of her vocals. Nice!
I ❤️ Big Brave! There is nothing better at the moment! This is sooooo great!!!
Just discovered them. Absolutely love it.. the vocals are a dream over the top of the drone
Beautiful sound like they ever did! Lovely Robin with dark drone, Mathieau did the smiling Noise and Louis-Alexandre is killing his drums! One of the best drone bands ever!
I like the way this girl sings.
Those drone heavy riffs fit perfectly with her screams.
I saw them open for Daughters... never heard of them but instantly fell in love
what wrong with you guys? this band is awesome. strong vocal and clean instruments in doom/drone mood.
It's beautiful!
it's one of the most incredible things to ever happen in the perceivable universe.
I can get why people wouldn't like this; way too minimal, strange vocals, noisy, etc.
That being said, I totally dig it. I think the dissonance and angry vocal lines make it sound really oppressive, and the clean effects of the guitars and repetitive song structures are hypnotizing. I also find it perplexing how someone would find this less interesting than Sunn O))), and I actively listen to Sunn O))).
Really though, I could see this being good for people who like Jesu, King Woman, Battle of Mice, etc. doom/droney/post-metal stuff.
lets face it, a lot of people say they like SunnO))) but probably never listen to them. Big|Brave is in my permanent rotation.
Sunn O))) + swans + Bjork
Holy shit, this is like a gorgeous, more metal version of Swans. Amazing! (Also, if anyone has ever played heavier music in sandals, I'll have to see it to believe it! It's kinda awesome they're just wearing ordinary street clothes, rather than feeling a need to indulge in metal fashion posturing.)
that, and the fact that there is this sense that they are all kind of nervous and looking like they hope to god they are on point with each other, while also looking like they are able to communicate BEAUTIFULLY without saying a word to each other, at the same time.
Amazing band.
Insanely awesome!
This band are really special and unique in their field
i never knew there was a thing called drone metal, now i fucking love this band
Drone Metal kicks ass. Check out the early Earth albums if you want to hear the band that invented the genre.
Welcome to the abyss.
Welcome, friend 😊 please do yourself a favor and check out Nadja and The Angelic Process, you won’t be disappointed!
@@RB939393 Ugh, Earth.. One of my favorites.. I could listen ti them forever haha.. And late albums are also gorgeous.. One must listen to all of their discography 💜
@@LEKLukeKnight I like both.. But I saw Nadja live and unfortunately (I dunno if it was their sound guy, they had sound check before the show for sure) they were TOO loud...as in - the whole venue shaked (about 200 people venue), you couldn't recognize the songs cause of loudness.. Total disappointment.. From a good band(at least at the studio)..
Amazing
Saw them live in Lyon France. Great band.
This is wonderful. I have the records but have never seen them live.
Just recieved my lp.Vital. First listen. Outstanding. This music is not for amateurs.
Amazing guitar work, amazing vocals. Just found this from their collab with the body.
style/genre and quality are two things some people don't understand what they are commenting about
These comments bum me out, these guys are fucking great
This slaps.
Love this noise. A Brave band indeed!
Very primal voice. Could see her singing folkloric music.
Well werent you prophetic!
Freakin awesome!
Brilliance!
Montreal ♥
Sounds great but who mic'ed the drums for this video?!
On studio albums they also seem to like putting Overheads louder than the rest of the kit. Aesthetics choices and all that
@@TheTourtopoulais Ah I see. I must hear a record then as this is good stuff. Any recommendation on where to start?
@@toughlifevirgina Yes ! A Gaze Among Them is my favorite record of them, and if you like the genre in general you can listen to YOB, Neurosis, Kowloon Walled City (container ships), Cult of Luna, Amenra, there is a wide genre of cool droney doom / post-metal out there !
@@TheTourtopoulais Oh thanks! Yeah I've seen Neurosis and CofL a few times in my lifetime. Love YOB too. For me though, my bands for that genre are Khanate, Harvey Milk, Khlyst.... you get the picture, I'm sure!
Best wishes to you!
@@toughlifevirgina Nice these are all great bands ! YOB is my personal favorite :) I thi,k you'll love Big | Brave then. Have a good day !
Amazing band. The exact kind of vocals i like, with a genre i also like
Amazing Drone with some Bjork feelings.
Fuck the haters this is beautiful :)
Imagine Lingua Ignota singing for this band
I don't really want to, actually
Vlw Pela indicação, Paulão❤
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Love at first sight :0
Sounds kind of closer to slowcore than to doom or drone. Like an even slower version of Codeine.
one of the most creative, original bands in the metal scene right now. also people encountering a genre called "drone" and getting mad at it for doing exactly what it says on the box will never not be funny.
Saw them open up for Sunn O))) , fucking EPIC BAND!!
❤
this.
Great set. They're an amazing band. I love them. Is the logo on their amps covered up for broadcasting reasons -- some sort of rule -- or was it the bands choice, I wonder. Thanks for uploading this.
Bad.Ass.
does any one know how to get a tone like those opening notes?
untune your guitar and play with the volume knob
Lots of amplifiers and distortion//fuzz
Orange amp + spring reverb . They use a orange or15 and what looks to be a rocker 30 but a rat would get you in the ball park. I’m pretty sure they use a line 6 verbzillas as the reverb
Torture cats
I love this - it's actually very similar to a lot of my own drone/doom/instrumentals. Her vocals add something a bit different - I get the Swans references, but I like this better. Are there any "rig rundowns" of them?
Sincerely, you guys should stop with the "they only know one chord" thing. The musical intentions of this band are meant to be like this. #onlyonechordbutwhatachord
hahaha now that's a hashtag
That hashtag says it all!
Man I wish they had mic'd and mixed the drums properly! They sound so tiny compared to the awesome guitars. What a let down.
I think the same, neverless... it's kind the way for certain type of sound to.
Yes these powerful sounds awaken in me the lust for battle!!! I must charge on towards the opposing village, no need for thoughts, no need for fears. Packed full of berserker rage and zealous determination!
Best band on the planet.
what planet?
@@virtual_balboa yo momma
Sludge icons
Does anybody know the lyrics to the first track?
Lydia Lunch is smiling. For once. If you like this, check out Teenage Jesus & the Jerks. Their best song? The Closet.
Fucking Brillant! More female vocals in metal please!⛧⛧
Is that nick sadler’s guitar?
They are awesome! IDK if it's just me, but well lit on a bright set isn't really that flattering for like 90% of bands. That might just be me though 🤷♂️😁
❤❤
yoko?
what amp head is he playing through? is that a sunn?
The one on top looks like an old Music Man to me. I'm not sure which model. The other is an Orange, I think one of the ORs.
If you like this try Vennum Sabbathi
I'm gonna
@@richardrisley2882 did you?
Turn off that racket!!😂
raaa
I don't get all the hate. Do they support Trump or something?
Fuck Trump and fuck you
Raúl Kino jeez you've got issues man
I like Trump and i like this band.
I doubt it. They're all visual artists from Canada.
If they did I would like them
and I thought I was cool getting rid of my e string...
Como se dice... Swans rip off?
I love the first song but I must say the live version is not that good…
This music band was the most rude and uncultured music band that I have ever seen, because a homeless person's behavior and speech was better than this band. His fans who don't know how rude this female singer and a guitarist are😔😔
You left this exact comment on another one of their videos. It doesn't even make sense. What happened exactly?
@@sophomorphia This female singer and her group had a performance two months ago, and on stage behind the microphone, they insulted the workers of the place loudly and between two musics. Do you think this is the behavior of an artist or a rude drug addict?
They need to work on how they sound live, but I love sludgier metal, especially when it diverts from the vanilla-guttural-screams side of things. They have a lot of potential.
Heyman Heyguys
This isn't sludge nor is it metal
this is not sludge, this is not metal, and they are doing great live. you are the one who needs to work on your mind and see things from different perspectives
@@barbasour It is sludge, and it is metal, and also no u.
@@HomoChomsky if you say "atmospheric sludge metal" or "post-metal" or "drone metal", maybe still acceptable. technically overall, they are leaning more towards experimental/post-rock/noisy-rock stuff than metal "metal". the structure, not the sound. sludge? far from it structurally but it does borrow one of the "sludge sounds". but whatever rocks your boat.
PS - I don't like this band but I don't say stuff like "I love sludgier metal". I'd just go listen to the sludgier metal music that I preferred.
I fuck with it, rarely get something I'll come back to from KEXP. This is pretty alright drone though. Just add a bassist, and less clean vocals and you got yourself a bitchin' sludge band.
J A D E
No
o k a y
J A D E why a bassist?
NO. no growly vocals ever.
@@billyalarie929 unfortunate that you feel that way
Nope
whoa gril, so they must be good!!
It's almost laughable as to how serious they take themselves. Rubbish.
bert visser
Shut your ig'nant hole, lady
I’ve just got to ask. What part of this crossed some of line of seriousness that they regard themselves with? I don’t see how anyone that doesn’t know them personally can extrapolate that.
What a nothing statement. Yeah, you can really tell this would be 'normal' for people to be laughing and being goofballs during this performance. Good call there, commoner.
Sounds like a car crusher played backwards - with the operator's wife shouting she's leaving him.
But hey, whatever floats your boat.
Idk whether this is supposed to be sincerely negative, but I love the description. That's what I love about the music.
sick
It's like playing a Sonic Youth record at the wrong speed - and not in a good way.
and even that's generous...
You're both lame
she doesn't look happy at all with this performance.
well to be fair the mix is kind of ass.
I was waiting for the song to start but I guess it did... just sounds like one long ass into to me. Different strokes for different folks I guess?
this isn't coming out of me wanting to trash the band or anything, i suppose to an extent i do understand the niche value of this music. personally however i just dont understand why its this. i saw them open for sunn o))) of all bands and everyone was saying this was boring. if youre familiar with sunn im sure you understand how strange that may be saying lol. i just feel as though if youre looking for something heavy, slow, clean vocals, female lead, atmospheric, or whatever the appeal of this band may be, why did you pick them lol. idk, im more of a doom guy and this to be is just bad. something of the likes of windhand is far superior to this. i really dislike the vocal performance in this band. just obnoxious. boring band.
Wow they opened for Sunn? I can stand Sunn's "minimalism" and "drone" or whatever, but...yeah. This band has a FEMALE so that means hype.
Xtian C. I didn't like Sunn till I saw them live, I understand haha
@@virtual_balboa I used to have displaced animosity toward women when I was an incel also.
@@bforty79 so you're no longer an incel? pussy.
@@hllymchll Do you call everything you don't like "hipster"?
Not bad. Terminal Cheesecake did this kinda thing much better though 30 years ago
with all my love and respect for Terminal Cheesecake - 30 y/o or fresh - i can't see logic or point of your analogue ?_?
Jeromes Dream's Presents album is a WAY better comparison, but okay.
Wow I haven't listened to shit like this since a while ago. This is real crap.
betojaime
This is the shit, agreed!
You are used to crap music with the same monotonous rythm and classical patters. That's why you don't like smt different. Your ears aren't able to get the sound. That's nornal in people with your cognitive level.
STOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPP!!!!!! Please?
Left Brained Idiot
Fuck NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Big Thief and Big Barn Burning will continue to be the only Big bands in my music library.
Thanks, I got something out of coming here after all (Loving Big Thief so far).
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know.
Big whoop
Big Business?
No Big Star or Big Black? For shame
Well that sucked.
wasy35
Your mom using teeth?
There's just no story or hook to be found in these songs.
The story is in the dynamics, subtlety, and the dragged rhythm.
Listen to one of their later releases, Muted Shifting of Space. I agree with you to an extent as far as this performance is concerned, but the aforementioned track is a much better testament to their feel.
Which is perfect. Hooks are required for tasteless inferior weaklings.
nope
I get what they are doing, but they are trying to be too different and sound confused/dis-jointed. The lead vocalist has great potential, but maybe seek out another band.
awful
osterkenn
You are!
I'm sure KEXP will go back to pumping out gutless tripe and hollow 'adult contemporary' tunes for doinks like you. Don't worry, goober.
Yes it is. It's awful how I left your mother's little part.
nope..its not heavy..just cheesy jamy, artsy-doom
Yep, look at what hipsters have done when they get their hands on doom. So bad.
And with that, you've just broadcasted your bland, feeble sensibilities. And I know without a doubt that you obviously listen to corny rubbish and pretend its 'heaviness' is its saving virtue...when it's just corny, commoner goober rock.
@@virtual_balboa Their "hands on doom"? Was that supposed to mean more than nothing? They're doing what they're doing. You failed.
