My dad bought a '66 Mustang as a cheap, used car to drive to work. He didn't intend to keep it more than three or four years. Nearly 52 years later, we still have it.
Well I put away the Shotgun borrow me your Glock Drive a Mustang to the funky weed spot Tried to jack me but the homie got shot la la la la la la la la
Bravo, sir. That was an excellent review of the '66 Mustang. My experience with that model Mustang began with my sister and her new husband in 1968, when just after getting married, they bought a '65 Mustang convertible. I was only....I was younger then so I never got to drive it...not that they would let me, of course. He was a 'hot rodder' and loved that car...so I went with his judgement and my time riding in it. Zoom ahead a number of years later and I was able to acquire a '66 Mustang convertible. Every time I drove it was a major flashback. It still had the same feel and 'aroma'...but this time I got to drive it. It was in less than great/good shape, so I drove it 'on occasion'...like The Summer. My boss liked it when I drove it to work because he thought it gave our small parking lot 'class' ( because despite being a rollin' wreck...my opinion...it did still Look Good. ) Especially when a client would see it and ask 'Who's car is that?" He'd answer; "Oh...one of my employees.". No, compared to my then 'daily driver'...the Mustang wasn't much. But it DID have style, it had History..by then brand Mustang was 'legendary'. One of the good things was my daughter grew up riding in it...now she has an appreciation for cars of that era looks, compared to what she calls the body style of modern cars as 'electric razors'. So...Mustang Magic, I guess. Perhaps as your review kind of hinted to; With a work of art, sometimes its what the viewer of that work brings to it that makes the Art...art. I know my Mustang was in shambles mechanically, its body had 'some places' that needed attention and so on. But...it was My Car, it was a Mustang and the same body style of another car that was a part of a good time in my life. All in all, a Good review. I learn new stuff about the cars you've reviewed. The '60 Falcon...was quite eye opening. Thanks...Keep up the good work.
I wonder if, like a friend of mine who's '68 Mustang 390 GT was used by Revell to laser scan for a new kit, Johnny Lightning used this actual car to make the mold for the scale model?
Damn, why is everyone hating on Roman? Hell, it’s refreshing to do something different. That’s the charm of this channel...doing a car review that’s outside the norm. Ungrateful bastards!
Funny thing about that high beam switch, ask anybody over the age of 50 about those things and they will start crooning about how amazing they where and how that's where they belong
My Fiat Grande Punto requires you to pull the light stalk back like you're flashing someone to toggle high beam on or off. Wigs people out the first time they drive it.
Pls make more of these. Mix it up a bit. Mr Regular will always be Mr. Regular, but I like Roman narrations as well. Particularly long, essay style videos like Lee Iacoca
Every time The Roman comes on I feel a bit cheated since I was expecting Mr. Regular, but I always end up liking the video in the end. Just a bit of a surprise is all. But yes, I love Roman in what I call his "story time" videos.
Oguzhan Oguz 1) They both consume massive interweb fiber on Saturday to ensure an early Monday drop. 2) Mr Regular is actually the abandoned love child of Jay and Vanna White. He's trying to get daddy's attention.
Roman has done multiple reviews before. Mr. Regular has said, in multiple occasions, that roman literally writes half of every review (or half of all the reviews)
Will somebody PLEASE center that steering wheel!?! It's nearly as easy as hitting the floor mounted high-beam switch that was standard on literally hundreds of older makes/models. How is this a surprise to car people?
Slightly obsessed with trains I always thought they looked super hard, I grew up with em, while they're not a 67 Shelby or anything they look way better than a pre-new edge SN95 or even both fox body styles imo
Hey, Roman, that was a really nice review! Thank you for that. Now all you gotta do is getting Mr. Regular ready for the success, because that rap is probably going to earn him a Emmy.
I've got a 67 with the same specs. For a car that you can buy all day long for < 20k, it gets all the looks. Every two blocks somebody gives you a thumbs up or a "nice car".
I am left wondering if this is the first American car from the 1960s the gentleman doing the voiceover has ever driven. Back in the 1960s, most American cars had the headlight dimmer switch on the floorboard.
Oddly enough, that dimmer switch on the floor was the norm for that era. It was what you would find in Chevies, Plymouths, Ramblers, Lincolns, and pretty much anything else you can name that came off an American production line. When the dimmer switches began to migrate up onto the steering column stalks it rubbed a lot of drivers the wrong way. It felt wrong that it wasn't there on the floor a bit up the firewall from where your left toe normally rested. The left-toe tap that was used to switch between high and low beams was a move that a lot of us had grown up with and it did not seem wrong or weird in any sense at all at the time.
Except the 64¹/² through 66 weren't supposed to be terribly sporty, they were aimed at the girls in the secretarial pool, marketing-wise. It took rodders to realize the potential Mustangs had, and Ford played catch-up with them. Yes, that was a 68 Fastback Steve McQueen was throwing around in the movie 'Bullit'.... and by then, Ford had figured it out. But -- just like the Nova -- it took the dudes who always smell like parts-washer fluid to aim Detroit in the right direction. If not for gear-heads, the Mustang would be as memorable as the Tempo.
I'm 18 and was fortunate enough to be able to completely rebuild a 66 mustang that's black and red. I love it. This video is perfect. The gas cap, high beams, and the heat controls make the car so unique. I don't have power steering and the transmission is indeed weird. As for the hazard lights, mine are on the steering column which is aftermarket to replace the "spear o matic" oem part. I love it at the base level and plan on changing a few things, might swap a 5 speed into it some day. Many younger guys like me don't appreciate the classics.
The problem is you got the secretary's first Gen mustang, my first car was a '66 coupe with a 3 speed manual, no power anything, and a modified 289. It was a poor man's v8 mustang and was fun as hell. It turns well if you have balls and is just quickly enough to be dangerous. (BTW I am 20 now and It definately has a love from people from my generation)
"Sporty" car versus sports-car, really... But I always thought it did well for what it was intended for - a snappy looking but otherwise average and livable daily driver.
Just an editing/writing tip, Roman. You used, "modern sensibility" at least two times in the narration? Well, throughout the script I was confused if you were speaking from the POV of 1966, or today. Much of your comments on the styling baffled me. Add more signifiers, or break it up into A then B? Also, 3rd time I've heard it on the internet or the other guy on this channel- Hi beam switches were on the floor 50's,60's, and 70's. I don't know who moved it to column (probably Honda/Toyota) but it is only 'weird' to young people. Like finding bench front seats, 'weird' because you've only been in modern cars with buckets and center console? Those felt weird to old people when it became a standard configuration.
"She's like Rapunzel. Except, instead of letting down her hair, she's letting down the English language". Holy cow that's some awesome "sick burn" material. Thank you, Roman!
Helpful hint for Ford engineers: Please have someone sit in your cars before putting them into production. True in 1966. True today. (See "ergonomics".)
The word for the feeling of nostalgia for a past that you have not personally experienced is called anemoia. It's quite an unusual sensation, to feel as though you're remembering fond memories of a time you never lived through.
I'm really glad that The Roman stuck with his own style in this video. I was a bit worried he'd feel pressure to emulate Mr. Regular's style. I loved this, thanks guys!
RCR does my dream car! This was absolutely, totally, unironically worth staying up until 3 AM for. Also, Mr. Regular is a way better rapper than I expected!
Here's where I piss off the wrench-heads.... You know which car I like better? The 67-68 Cougar. Yes, it was slower, yes, it was laden with accessories which broke. But you know what? The Cougar had a gorgeous ass!!
It always makes me chuckle when I hear people talk about older cars and the high beams switch being a button on the floor. I mean, I've never driven a car with this but I remember most of the cars the adults around me had when I was child that had these.
This was the first year for hazard lights, as they became mandatory in June of 66. I believe that they were just thrown in there to get them in the car last minute. The gas cap was not attached on the 64.5 Mustangs, but they added that loop so that people wouldn't steal them or leave them behind.
Why do you guys always complain about the dimmer switch being on the floor? Its nothing special, damn near evey car I've ever had from the 60s and 70s had it on the floor. Its normal for that era.
Lol I can't believe so many people are hating on Roman doing a review. First of all, it's a mustang - why would he not write some words and then read them? Second, RCR is a team and the creative process is undoubtedly collaborative. Remember the VW Jetta review? The one where they each did their own takes on the car? While I agreed with Mr Regular, that the 4th gen Jetta is a car whose blandness is rivaled only by the POS hyundai elantra, Roman's take on it was different enough in all the right humanistic and nostalgic ways, that it actually felt like a breath of fresh air amidst the fiery hatred of revolt I've always felt toward the monotony of V dubs. Also, I'd like to say that although youtube is a bit of collaboration between the viewers and the source, the video creators are entitled to their freedom to run their channel however they see fit. It's your decision as the viewer to learn to expand your mind and try listen to a voice that isn't in the same meter and timbre as everything else on the radio. Don't become the monotony the 4th gen Jetta, and in certain aspects, this '66 mustang represents. I can see why someone could call this car boring, but that doesn't at all mean it's uninspired. Wish it was original and unrestored but these days you can only ask for so much from these pioneering classics
My grandparents owned a 66 Mustang and my dad wanted it so badly. But, his younger brother wanted it too, so my grandparents sold it to some rando on Craigslist. That car was cool. My grandpa installed A/C (they live in Texas after all) and a handcrafted wooden center console. Riding in the back of that car with no seatbelts in 2010 was like a dream. What a cool car. Wish I knew where it was now.
7:17 ford was still putting the high beam switches on the floor even up until the late 80's. my uncle had an 87 bronco that still used that method to turn on the high beams.
Some things to note and correct.. Lee Iacocca wanted to change the image of the Mustang which was known as a secretaries car into a muscle car, hence the 289, the HiPo, the Boss 302, 351, etc. Front disks were a rare option, most had 4 drum brakes. Compared to todays vehicles they are rough, but all of them handled that way. The pony interior was a special option and not standard. You had to order it, but it did come standard on the GT models. Standard interior came directly from the falcon in 65 and 66. The seats bolt right in. And the rare front bench seat came directly from the falcon as well as many of the suspension parts right down to the drums and resevoir.
Dimmer switch on the floor is not awkward its awesome! Lets you keep your hands on the wheel. I've had my 66 for over 20 years and love that feature! Gas cap in the back prevents you from being limited to which open gas pump you can use.
I get a black G37 sedan a year ago and RCR makes a video on a black G37 a few months later. I buy an 85 white C4 Corvette 2 months ago totally forgetting that Mr. Regular made a review of an identical white C4. My dad bought a 65 silver blue automatic 289 Mustang back in May and now he makes a video on it. Oh and my dad has a red 65 Falcon and Mr R has a red 60 Falcon. T h i s i s g e t t i n g w e i r d
The original style Mustang is Scott Hall/Kevin Nash. While not the most notible wrestler ever, if it wasn't for them and the Outaiders/NWO gimmick in WCW, there would have been no attitude era in the WWF... And without this Mustang, there would have been no Camaro/Firebird from GM or Charger/Challenger from Chrysler.
This opposite day was better than the last one. Roman's lady and the tiger bit and how it was tied in at the end, and a cypress hill cover by Mr. R. Loved it all around!!

I love when The Roman does videos. Mr. Regular is fantastic but Roman is delightfully different.
While I will always be here for the Regular voice, Roman is still an excellent writer and doesn't deserve the flak y'all are giving him

It's always a joy when Regular and Roman swap roles in reviewing.
Yeah, it's always a fun twist, and this felt quite appropriate.
Roman was so much more natural and relaxed in this than other videos I've seen with him. Really came into his own

MR. R's *R A P P I N G* MAKES MONDAY MORNING GOOD
My grandparents owned a 66 Mustang and my dad wanted it so badly.
Anybody think about the book Outsiders when they see this car
7:17 ford was still putting the high beam switches on the floor even up until the late 80's. my uncle had an 87 bronco that still used that method to turn on the high beams.
I want a full version of that starting song
I like trains
ANOTHER ROMAN REVIEW FUCK YES
EGHSRC Relax Roman we all know it's you..
Maybe they should switch up once a month. I mean, I like Mr. Regular AND the Roman equally, but it would make for some nice variety then and now.
CL Anthony I wish I was that sexy Puerto Rican beast
More like Fuck no
WE HAD IT, ROMAN
Oh man the description is just unique ! this channel is like the Dumbledore of automotive youtube channels, thank you Mr regular
Cypress hills vibes on mr regulars scene
My grandpa had a 66 Mustang back in the 70s.
Canary Yellow, Black Interior and a White Soft Top. 👍
THE PEOPLE WANT MEAT!!!
Primusdragon IVE HAD ENOUGH OF MY VEGETABLES
*Crappy simplistic music "Opposite day!" I love it!
Regular Cypress Hill Covers
Wow how did we go from interiors like these to the ones from the 90s.
I was waiting for Mr. Regular to add "BALLS" at the end of the opposite day 'song'. Disappointed.
7:17 - Floor high beam switches were pretty common back in the day. My '78 Ford LTD has its high beam switch on the floor as well.
