There is a lot of comments about people who visit places like this and either destroying it i or leaving their trash behind or not leaving shit they do not want to carry back. I work for the county and because of the mess people leave they may close it. Apparently the wild life is suffering as well. The homeless if they are sill there are out soon as well. Everyone should treat this place like they own it and they do if you think about it ..everyone is a tax payer...it looks like a great spot
I can't deny it. I don't understand? I found a folding chair once just left behind like what? I've gotten two comments about homeless people or a camp. That I have never seen or I've never run into a homeless person out there. That's interesting. That would be sad if they closed this place really. I hope not because yes it's a great spot, It really is.
@@RunningwaterPDPmaybe make signs to respect environment and don’t leave trash behind could help? Terrible people to disrespect beautiful nature
@@Glamgrlsf yes. I'm thinking of a 3 point solution. 1 Visitor education. 2 Adequate dumpsters for the volume of people who actually visit. 3 consequences in the form of fines. The only problem is funding. Over all, I love azusa despite it's lack of care it is sad. Anyways thanks for watching see ya ✌️
@@RunningwaterPDP I've been going to that area for years and I always see people bringing large barbeques disregarding potential fires. They also leave soiled diapers and trash behind and even break glass bottles against the rocks. Not to mention the graffiti, drunk people and parking anywhere they please. It doesn't get any more ghetto than that. They need to start sending rangers to control this, fines and arrest in some cases. It's a disgrace for such a beautiful place.
@@exocetmm38 there's no denying any of that unfortunately. Such a beautiful place so close to L.A. it's a shame. I hope something could be done about all the mess.
I was just there and people are leaving so much trash and they have been tagging in (graffiti everywhere) is sad . We gotta save this place from trash !
God bless
Yes the trash and graffiti thing is such a sore on the eyes. I'm thinking visitor education, enough dumpsters to serve the amount of people that actually visit the river. And some consequences for littering. But over it's a wonderful place. God bless.
Horrible! Clean up after yourself like a responsible human being
Yup it’s all the minorities leaving trash
The chunteria ruins it for everyone. I once saw a whole pot of arros dumped on the side of the river, like who does that?!?
Never knew about this little gem and I’ve been in Los Angeles all my life over half a century! Thanks so much😊
I feel ya same here. I just discovered it this summer like what. go Check it out if you can.

@lissettefuentes7986 often coordina tree are the location, instead. That gets confused because there are many different coordinate systems, but that what need be asked.
@@lissettefuentes7986 I actually posted another video on how to get to the spot exactly. 👌

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Having responsible adults roaming the area is very helpful in keeping things on the safe side. 🤙
Definitely. I'm like a migrating bird I'm in the San Gabriel mountains from June to September. All safe nothing to report 👍✌️
@@RunningwaterPDPI’m from San do county so I’m not familiar with San Gabriel valley. From what I’m seeing in this video it’s a beautiful place. I would love to take my family out there for the day and enjoy the valley’s beauty.
@@Citybythebeach gotcha I posted another video on how to get to this spot exactly. One good thing is the river is not to far from where you park. You're family will enjoy it. It's a very popular spot if you do go you have to go early otherwise you won't find parking. Coming from far that may be a problem getting there early. But definitely I nice spot I hope you can make it out sometime 👌
This was delightful and informative. Thank you for creating and sharing.
Thank you very much. I appreciate the comment. Such a nice stretch of river 👍
Currently serving in U.S. Army. I have been out of state for a few years, miss this place ! Coming home soon ! I’m thinking of going out there with some trash bags and start helping with the clean up. My family has been coming here sense the 70s
Thanks for your service man. Taking them boots off and dipping your feet in that cold water will feel great....it really sucks hearing people that are not responsible for the mess have to pick it. Yes my family has been coming to this spot since the 90s It is a very wonderful place indeed, enjoy.
Do they have restrooms here!? I want to come!
The color of that water is incredible!!!!!
It really is. It draws you in. Winter is coming tho it gets real cold up there. ✌️
Lol I'm from the north east so it's probably still nice. I was in Laguna beach last January on warm day, swimming without a wet suit and people looked at me like I was crazy. That's when I learned your cold is our warm haha@@RunningwaterPDP
With the rain clearing from this weekend I bet it’s beautiful right now.
really nice reminds me of red rock over here in santa barabara
California is such a vast state. So many spots. Red rock sounds interesting for sure.
Lived in covina hills since 1968 been up there many times hope its stays beautiful btw many mine shafts to explore up there too
It's nice up here. Hey I've been looking into that the mines I would love to check that out. What's you're favorite one?
In 1980, a friend of mine and my eldest son went into the Arroyo Seco River near Fort Hunter Ligget and floated this river. I told my wife we'd be home on the 2nd night....truth is on that 2nd night we had NO idea of where we even were and didn't finally reach civilization until the end of the third day. The following year, we repeated the adventure, but this time with five of us....and we spent five days on the river. Deep in the canyon, caught a few 20" trout to have for dinner. No bulky fishing poles.....just a willow banch....and, no fishing license. Both times we never saw another soul until our last day on the river.
On the third day, we found another 'fork' entering the main river, which was almost equal to the one we were on, and spent a day going UP that tributary and exploring it. Now looking back on it, I consider this to be the greatest adventure of my life, for we truly had no idea of the depth of the adventure we would be tackling. Also, whether the state likes it or not, we killed two rattlesnakes....and saw two beautiful banded king snakes....one red and the other yellow....which we left alone. BHE

Your welcome yup it's summer time. "Finally the rain is gone, it's going to be a nice, nice bright sun shiny day" ☺️🌻 enjoy ✌️
In 1988 I use to take my son dirt bike riding in Azusa Canyon, looks like now it has more water. It was dry with very little water then. we had lived in Glendora so it was perfect to take him dirt biking. Once he sank his quad into a very deep whole , I was at the car at the time, I am so thankful for the teenagers who pulled him out of the whole he had stayed on the bike. He was 8 at the time.
What an amazing story and to think when all this was going on. I was a 3 year old child. I'm glad my video brought back good memories besides getting stuck in the hole I mean I bet lots of good memories.
Wow! That is stunning! I love your approach to shooting video. Thank you for not making this a 9 min. selfie! Felt like i was there. 😊

For a period of my life, I spent a lot of time on that river, floated the entire canyon twice, and, never saw any gold. But then, not having an ounce of desire for gold, wouldn't know it if I saw it!

I did hiking and backpacking along this river back in the 1980s. It was a thrill to see the bridge to nowhere and the big horn sheep. And it was interesting to see remnants of old mining equipment from decades past. I don't recall a problem with trash back then.
That's so cool. Yeah I started coming here in the 90s as a young boy. It's funny I knew of the oaks picnic area but never went beyond that point. When I finally did as an adult I was amazed the bride to no where is such an amazing hike. I encountered big horn sheep as well truly amazing. The trash thing has gotten out of control in recent years tho. Still it's a wonderful place.
OUTSTANDING !!! Great job brother
Thank you and for watching 👍
Cool video man….to bad you couldn’t take the river all the way to the bridge…anyway still great video…thx 👍

Like any place outdoors, during the week is more peaceful, serene.
Exactly. I forgot if it was Monday or Tuesday when I filmed. But virtually empty. 👌
Now if the people who go.out there would just pack.out all the diapers and other trash they leave everywhere
Of course. Pack it in pack it out. Unfortunately the people who go up there are the poorest and least educated plus the forest service doesn't provide adequate trash bins for the volume of visitors. It's sad but hey it's still a wonderful place. Still worth a visit or at minimum a drive through the mountains 🌎✌️👌🌲
@@RunningwaterPDPLet's not BS here. These poor people can take a bag and take that bag to their car to throw it out somewhere where there's a bin or take it with them. No need for excuses for people being savages.
@@richterbelmont2 it's not making excuses it's just reality. They don't care. Just providing insight to why they do it. Some people think it has to do with race, so I'm just trying to point out reason other than race is the reason why people trash the river. You're right tho they certainly can pickup after themselves no one is arguing against that, it's sad.
Gross leaving trash and trashing the place like animals. That’s so disrespectful n gross
I wonder what group of people Who leave a bunch of shifty ass Diapers behind are?😆
I had no idea this existed! Thanks!
I don't either just found it this summer. It's amazing check it out👌
Still looks as beautiful as it was in the early 80’s when I was a kid. Thanks for the video!
No problem man, it is beautiful thanks for watching 👍
That's because nobody knows about it. Hopefully it stays that way. Technology social media etc starts with UA-cam.... You'll start seeing more videos of this amazing place and like everything else, you'll start seeing trash, people hunting wildlife, off road vehicles leaving tracks destroying landscape, but Hopefully homeless drug addicts stay away from here.
@@IvanHernandez-kz5uq no one know about it?? This place is extremely popular. Believe me even in the 90s without social media.
Camp williams is still there .
It doesn’t look like that anymore I live in the area like literally a five minute walk from the area and unfortunately it’s no longer our open secret. I have no problem with people going exploring and being in nature it’s just the wrong type of people they leave trash empty bottles sometimes even halfway empty bottles and I have found a couple of chickens with their heads cut off not to mention the homeless population and a bunch of drug paraphernalia I found there are somehow fish in the river though I’m not too sure how but there are. In good news though if you travel down the river from the bridge he’s talking about and go up one of the offshoots that leads near the community you will eventually find a broken down car and if you go further a cabin foundation with a Stone oven if you make a hard right from the cabin facing along the river there is a little rock scramble you can climb up that no one knows about I do have to be decently experienced at hiking otherwise you’re not finding it hence why no one knows about it.

Also, dirty people have been throwing their trash everywhere, it was not like that last year.
I've been going to the San Gabriel River since 1991 and I'm sad to report I always remember it being trashed. 😫 the San Gabriel River is very popular with the locals as far as I remember, if your not there by 8:30 -9:00 am no parking I remember that since a kid and is still true till this day. If you ever have a chance to go during the week go, way less people 👍
@@RunningwaterPDP I used to go as a kid but don't remember how it was lol. Is West Fork just as packed as East Fork? I left last Sat as it was too packed and headed to the Tujunga river. I know a spot that never gets too full.
@@jayesco1987 yeah bro no lie even west for gets packed. Especially the weekends. I went with fam I was there at west fork at 8:30 am and found literally the last parking. I tell everyone if you're going up there you have to be up there by the river literally no later than 8:30 for a spot. It's very popular both west and east fork. In the 1980s I used to backpack in past the bridge to nowhere and stay a few days, and pan for gold. My then girlfriend (now my wife) lived in Azusa right at the corner of Sierra Madre and San Gabriel. It was nice back then, and very few people. You put this on UA-cam kiss it goodbye.
Yes unfortunately the population has increased dramatically since the 80s. Azusa is above the biggest metropolitan area in the u.s.a. I believe like 13 million. So to be honest when I started going in the 90s dude if you're not there by 9am no parking this place has been extremely popular as long as I can remember. Way before my UA-cam video. Way way before.
So nice.
I'm not sure where you are from but it is nice. If you ever have a chance to go, go in July. I have another video on the exact directions to the location thanks for watching 🙏.
About 1 year ago, the East Fork looked like a dried up stream.
Choked with algae. Great to see it looking the way it should.
But, for how long......??
I seen it like that but at west fork. My guess is as long as we have wet winters it will look like this.

Lets also preach leave no trace and pack it in pack it out. Unfortunately the county and state want to close this area due to trash/environmental impact... I've seen it all here. Human waste, dipers, needles Bbq lol left behind. 🤷🏽♂️
Thanks man. No way they want to close it that would suck. But yeah the amount of waste left behind it frustrating. I can't believe you have to tell people not to liter especially the mountains. I hope they find a solution that doesn't end up being closed to the public. Again thanks for watching 👍

Heck yeah 👍
Beautiful water
And so close to the city I was amazed.
Looks like fun.
It sure is. The perfect summer activity. 👍
Glad you're showing something in LA County since that area has such a bad name. We should talk though. In Anaheim we have a tributary of the San Gabriel River named Carbon Creek. It starts where the primary water table below us comes to the surface. But the creek is usually dry because it's intercepted by wells that are dug at the point where the water starts coming out of the ground. The city Public Works Department is in charge of that. There's a water treatment plant also right after the wells. The tap water here is awful, tasting heavily of hydrochloric acid. You can boil it and the taste is still there. You have to mix instant coffee grounds into the water to make it palatable, or use some kind of filtration system yourself. If they left the area alone there would be a perennial stream here, since the water table is vast and replenishing from deep below the earth. Just to the east, there's a barely perceptible elevated spine of land, running from the mountains to the ocean, separating the San Gabriel and Santa Ana River watersheds. Most people have no idea this arrangement even exists, and that's the way the government likes it.
Not just L.A. but all of California has a bad name. There are even UA-cam channels dedicated to talking trash about California with thousands of subscribers. I'm confused because California is such a beautiful state. Sorry to hear about your water issues. I get water from outside my grocery store they have filtered water a fill a 5 gallon jug for $2.50. I don't know much about the water sheds but I know the land was changed so much. Thanks for watching have a great day 👍

Cheeches secret son😂
🤣
Lol
In the 1960s we used to catch Native Trout in the East Fork and the West Fork. Lots of them in the backcountry, small but good eating. Bears and knives are a bad idea.
I can imagine in the 60s way less people and much more wildlife. Bears and knives?? What do you mean by that?
I mean that if you are attacked by a bear and he's close enough to use a knife on you will be seriously injured or killed in the fracas. Bear spray can keep them at a distance and dissuade them, a firearm in the hands of an expert can stop a bear attack, but there are a lot of stories of Grizzily bears with pistol bullets trapped in their sub-cutaneous fat on killing rages from the continual pain. Good on you for traveling that country, I saw a Golden Eagle on the East Fork once, and the deer herd was about 5 times bigger than now. Mountain Lion Country, too. They like to shadow you for miles on the trail, mostly just curious. @@RunningwaterPDP

Good thing it takes some hiking to get to, otherwise it would be filled with diapers and trash.
Unfortunately for the San Gabriel mountains, they tower over L.A. metro with a population of 12 million people. The poorest and least educated people visit the river, coupled with the forest service not providing adequate service for the amount of visitors the mountain receives is a recipe for disaster. @@Deadloxrussell not at all the only thing that separates the river from the road is a small cliff maybe 10-15 feet. If you scout along the river you will actually find spots that are perfect for toddlers. Seriously place where the water is inches deep and crystal clear. Enjoy have a great time. Go early on weekends limited parking.
Cool video.
Thanks man I appreciate it, thanks for watching 👍
Y favorite spot was those kids diving in the rest of the river to shallow it's nice though
It is nice man. Such a nice river.
Thank you
Your welcome 🤙
Ok but once we are at the bridge where do we go? Is it left right down? Please get back to me I want to go
I have another videos. One that explains how to get to this spot exactly.
@@RunningwaterPDP I looked but I didn’t find it can you tag me in it or give me the tittle name please I would really appreciate it
Sorry I just saw the message. But I saw your other comment you found it 👍
How do I get here from Sunland Tujunga any driving directions
@@Marie-e9u7g ua-cam.com/video/qvpFQQ0jNDY/v-deo.html the exact directions how to get to this spot. It's a long hike 4 hours maybe. just do the first part the water is amazing. You'll love it it. Enjoy.
I wonder if this river drys up in August?
Your good to go I just went two days ago water is at the same level. Plus last year we received so much water there was still snow in the mountains till June. Absolutely wonderful worth the visit 👌
It never dries up! Not even during the last few years of severe drought did it stop flowing. Obviously it wasn't as full as it was on the video but always flowing along.
@@MadCatMaddie yeah that's true never completely dry. Around 4 years ago in the middle of the long drought I went to West fork the water was ankle deep that was the driest I'd ever seen it in my life it was shocking.
Is there restrooms!?
There are some the nearest restrooms from this spot is the restrooms at oaks picnic area and at the trail head for the bridge to nowhere
The water is freezing !
It is bro 💯
Does the river have water all year? Just saw the one small fish?
Yeah it does all year round your good to go.
if not , i am going to try to make it out there. nice capture .
Thanks man. I hope you make it out enjoy. If you're not sure I have a video that shows how to get to this exact spot 👌
Still Gold in them rivers
Yeah I had a conversation with someone that was planning for gold at the river interesting stuff California is amazing.
Nice hike
Honestly it was my first time I was amazed. I totally recommend it. Thanks for watching.
I wondrr what it look like after the 1 dsy storm that just passed us in Cali...
It probably cleared some of the temp dams. I wish I could go check but I'm tied up.
Bet that beautiful water’s cold
It is quite chilling but you get use to it after awhile.
Where do you get the pass and what kinds of fish are there?
I personally get it at 944 N Azusa Ave, Azusa, CA 91702 it's a liquor store that's the address. It's located before going up the mountain on N Azuza Ave (hwy 39) I've seen the Santa Ana sucker, trout and spotted dace.
Who leaves diapers behind, umm let me guess 😮
You don't have to guess. It's the poorest and least educated people in L.A. metro that come to this particular river. It's a shame, but east fork San Gabriel river is still a nice place to visit.
Single mothers 😅
@@RunningwaterPDP yes it is , wish it was patrolled more!
@@bigsur21 it should. That small ranger office at the bottom of hwy 39 before heading up the mountain, I remember it being more active with rangers when I was a child.
The central American illegals thar hang out there do 😅😂, cerrotes
Where is it located
In the San Gabriel mountains east fork Southern California. I have a video with the exact directions to this location 👌
Is there any
🐻 Bear's or mountain 🦁 lion
I have seen a bear once yes. I have never seen a mountain lion. It's possible that there is mountain lions tho. But this particular part of the river is very busy with human activity so to be honest most wild animals stay away.
@@RunningwaterPDP thanks bud looks awesome 😎👍
@@efeG24 you're welcome check it out if you can 🌎✌️
Devil's canyon is where you have to go . I grew up camping in the Azusa canyons . Either devil's canyon or camp williams
Thank you. I've seen both but what is camp Williams a trailhead to something? Devil's canyon? Is that the canyon just before the bridge to nowhere? The San Gabriel mountains are so vast still so much to explore.
