that wheel makes me drool... but so does my junk wheel. i took the back tire off a broken bike, stuck a 2point knitting needle in there, added a drive band. bam, he's a 'greatwheel'. i call him Oengus. he gets the job did... :) thanks for letting us view this beaut.

Makes me want to give my antique spinning wheel "Nymble" some TLC straight away. I have found, that the antique ones are far easier to spin with than any modern ones I have tried. My Nymble basically taught me to spin. I had tried and tried, with a drop spindle, and a modern one, and it was not exactly a pleasant experience. Then I found Nymble, sat down, and was able to spin beautiful yarn as soon as my foot touched her treadle. The old wheels have treadles that are often less steep than the modern ones, and they have a beautiful balance. i have yet to find a modern one i would prefer over any of my antique ones - and I do have an Ashford traditional, which is not a bad wheel, but the antique ones have soul, and are teachers, like you said!

What a lovely tribute. I too have fallen for the older wheels (though it is the CPWs that keep coming home to spin with me). A spring spa day for them is on the list.
