I like the date picker, but until the web version support vbs I will not be using it for anything other than simple spreadsheets. I do like the column/row move.
@@ExcelCampusI thought you could move and copy columns and rows by highlighting it and drag the row or column itself instead of dragging the divider line? 🤔
@@ExcelCampus I know that but how many other people don’t? It’s not an intuitive thing to do as you would assume - like adding a filter or re-adjusting the width of a cell. I bet they actually made use of people’s Google Search data to come up with this feature. Good job MS lol 👍🏾
Date picker is cool. Column moving is a UX improvement that is cool, but I don’t really care for my use. And comments pane improvements is great. Also, love using saved views. Didn’t know you can copy a link to the them!
Nice additions. One thing to note is that Ctrl + Shft+ V works throughout Microsoft as “paste values only”. For example if you’re pasting from the web or another software into something like Word, the formatting will match what you have in word, and not the source you copied from.
Great point! Thanks Ron! One thing to note is Ctrl+Shift+V only works on Windows right now. It's not working on the Mac yet. We have a video coming out in a few weeks that explains some updates to the Mac version and covers this topic. Stay tuned...
Thanks, that was awesome! One thing they should definitely implement with Freeze Panes is that they don't affect Slicers. I use them all the times for my tables (and not only pivot tables) and it's a pain I can't Freeze views anymore because of that.
I typically use Google Sheets online and Excel on the desktop. Nice to see some of these features coming to Excel online. I'll have to play with it some more. Now, if Excel would have the color options for Data Validation lists! Didn't know the Date Picker has been added to Excel online. One of my favorite features in Sheets.
The Sheet View is a feature I knew nothing about. That combo with the bookmark bar will perfect for a sheet I’m setting up for a coworker. I had noticed that you stick to navy and white small prints. :)
Definitely the Column drag thing... I didn't know about the Shift option in the Desktop version either!! Thank You!!!... But Column moving has been a real pain for me.
Thanks Constance! The date picker is my favorite too. I've spent a lot of time creating one in VBA, and it will be nice to have one with native functionality.
Your devotion to keep Excel alive (spending time behind creating date picker before new features arrived) and even though spreading new features is great. I love your work.@@ExcelCampus
interesting. Our team has had the past special options on desktop for a long time. date picker does not seem to work on desktop. i like the freeze panes a lot.
I wish the online version has a web data update option. It’s sad that only the desktop version has this, because it means you can’t update data on the go.
Excellent video Jon, thank you for sharing. Do you have any more about Excel online? I'm using Linux Mint and enjoy excel program and it's power with Pivot Tables etc. like slicers.
Generally good stuff. I especially like the visual drag/drop column destination indicators. A line tells a whole lot more than a box. (I don't use the web version, at least not for my stuff, because I have a lot of VBA post-processing support.) On AutoFill series, I wish Excel would alter its behavior in a filtered table. If filtered, your only autofill option is copy. If it could figure out I'm filling over a contiguous area of rows, that should be good. I've never used Sheet Views. I can see their value for reporting. Seems like it's essentially a virtual sheet, much like a SQL View is a virtual table. Good stuff as usual, Jon. While not everything you present is necessarily new to me (25?-year Excel veteran who is always striving for greater efficiency), you present everything clearly and concisely in a very understandable way for everybody. For what I might happen to "know" already, it's always good for a reminder or to be reminded I'm not a complete idiot. Thanks!
Thanks for the nice feedback, Jack! 🙏 I agree that improvements to AutoFill would be nice. And appreciate all your suggestions and support. Thanks again and have a nice day! 🙂
Is it possible to create a chart whose formatting is linked to the source data? For example, can Excel make a bar chart where the color of each bar matches the font color of the source data in each cell.
Leaving a note about my experience with the things mentioned in this video. I have a business standard 365 account, and I do not have the insert row/column bubbles (either side of 6 dots) nor the freeze panes blue line capability. All the other things mentioned are available for me. Just mentioning this if others are in the same boat. Rest assured they will be there, but as of today that is what I’m showing.
Interesting. Thanks for letting us know, Ron! Microsoft's announcement says the features are currently rolling out to all Excel for web users. So hopefully you will get them soon. Here's the announcement. techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/excel-blog/modernized-excel-grid/ba-p/4176473
Good news, Mark! The new checkboxes feature does exist on desktop. It's currently rolling out to the Monthly channel for Microsoft 365 accounts. Here's a video I did on it. ua-cam.com/video/XAeVyMrANnw/v-deo.htmlsi=BbkA2A6fyYqGbKOb Note that the ghosting feature I show in that video is no longer available. Microsoft changed the behavior to make it more intuitive and user friendly. I hope that helps. Thanks! 🙂
Great question, Stephen! I assume you're referring to the desktop version. And unfortunately, I don't know the answer or timeline. I'm hoping they do make it to the desktop soon. Especially the date picker. 🤞
One thing I hate about online excel is it's auto save function. I'd rather save myself since every time excel autosaves it also removes ctrl z history, and it's really annoying if I happen to paste some data that messes up my program and then I cannot ctr z it.
I am making myself crazy, I want to write a formula with the following criteria (I am not sure what type of formula I need). If col C is "Lead 7%"D287%. I haven't done this in so long I am drawing a blank.
Is there a specific function you are wondering about? Aside from macros, I can’t think of a function that would be a problem from web to desktop. One thing from this video specifically to note is the date picker. Although not a function, excel will not show a date picker in the desktop version, you’ll still have to type the date (or use Ctrl + ; for today’s date), but all formulas and functions referencing that date will work the same.
Great question! With formulas or functions that are not available on a user's desktop version yet, the formula will return an error when it is recalculated. As long as you don't recalculate, the formula should show the result that was last calculated before the workbook was saved. So it's best to use functions that you know will still be available on all versions of Excel that you will be sharing the file with. That's why I'm still a proponent of learning functions like VLOOKUP, even though XLOOKUP replaces it. There's a really good chance you will come across VLOOKUPs in your work, and/or have to use them in these compatibility scenarios. Here's a video I have on that topic. ua-cam.com/video/CQAhPRCAjA8/v-deo.html As Ron mentioned, the features shared in this video won't really suffer from compatibility issues, but there are definitely features that will. The new checkboxes feature is one that comes to mind (my video on checkboxes ua-cam.com/video/XAeVyMrANnw/v-deo.html). It's slowly rolling out to the current channel on desktop, but will be awhile before it roles out to other channels. I hope that helps. Thanks again and have a nice day! 🙂
@@ExcelCampus I did initially think of checkboxes but did not mention them since I didn't have a option on my machine. I do know that checkboxes from Google Sheets do not show up in Excel, but just couldn't be sure how Microsoft would handle it. Because of this comment I fired up the machine and I DO have insert>checkboxes on my desktop version but I do not have it on the online version. I thought that was a bit odd. I have verified that creating a list with checkboxes on the desktop version using the insert method does not transfer to the online version. Pointing this out specifically because normally the general rule of thumb with these roll-outs have been online first and then desktop. Either way, I am excited to FINALLY have the capability to insert checkboxes on the desktop version as that is what I use anyway. Thanks John or John's proxy!
Oh man I didn’t know I could hold shift while moving a column to insert it somewhere else. That will save some time. Thanks Jon!
Awesome! I'm happy to hear it will save some time. 🙌
If you use Excel tables you have the new feature already. Use it all the time.
I like the date picker, but until the web version support vbs I will not be using it for anything other than simple spreadsheets. I do like the column/row move.
@@ExcelCampusI thought you could move and copy columns and rows by highlighting it and drag the row or column itself instead of dragging the divider line? 🤔
Took Excel this long to move a column. Revolutionary!
As I mentioned in the video, moving columns has always been possible. Just the UI and behavior has been updated.
@@ExcelCampus I know that but how many other people don’t? It’s not an intuitive thing to do as you would assume - like adding a filter or re-adjusting the width of a cell. I bet they actually made use of people’s Google Search data to come up with this feature. Good job MS lol 👍🏾

Great updates, hopefully coming to the desktop version very soon. Cut and paste, and the freeze panes are great. Thanks, Paul
I'm looking forward to those as well, Paul!
Date picker is cool.
Column moving is a UX improvement that is cool, but I don’t really care for my use.
And comments pane improvements is great.
Also, love using saved views. Didn’t know you can copy a link to the them!
Date picker is awesome. It’s the little things in life!
Yes, now we just need to wait another 5-10 years before Microsoft allows us to resize the popup.
Nice additions. One thing to note is that Ctrl + Shft+ V works throughout Microsoft as “paste values only”. For example if you’re pasting from the web or another software into something like Word, the formatting will match what you have in word, and not the source you copied from.

Appreciate your support, Ivan. 🙏

Date picker looks like the best new feature. I don't like or use the Web version, and I'd like to see this in the desktop version.
Amazing video. I love to see column moving and date picker.
Date picker for cells formatted as date is lit!
Love the date picker feature & the moving of the columns/rows.
