Arceus had a lot of potential with the old sprite. Imagine they filled its body with stars and stuff and made like a galaxy on its body, but the stars and stuff change along with the typing
Tbh Arceus’s beta design is a cool concept 🤔 since it’s literally God in the Pokemon Universe, so of course they don’t have a clue on how it looks like
Maybe Arceus is like IT and the human mind can’t see it’s true form so we see a deer? And it’s true form(the beta design) is it’s true form idk just maybe?
Arceus reminds me of a description of an Old Testament-style angel. You know, wheels of fire with eyes and wings everywhere that needs to preface a conversation with "DO NOT BE AFRAID" before it appears. This is the kind of Arceus that you can't really comprehend with your mortal eyes and I am HERE for it. And Gible looks like a low-level Digimon and I love him.
I wonder if with gible's evolution line, they came up with the "land shark" pokemon idea first and then starting drawing the concepts, cause I can see more shark vibes on the beta concept than the final version.
I like to think that the Beta Rotom is almost like what the "core" of final Rotom looks like under the orange metal? Hope that makes sense? But this was very interesting to see all the changes of ALL the Sinnoh ones. SO glad they changed Torterra.... omg his final design is so much better...
@@spikemoody1757 i'm not talkimg about the size, but the placement. The betea's arms are placed in the back, instead of being more in the front like on pachycephalosaurus

I am actually in love with the Beta Arceus design. It gives off a very spooky and cryptid vibe. Definitely feels like a formless deity/entity that created the universe.
What I think is really interesting with combee's beta sprite is that pasty white color used on them is the same color that bee larva are when they first hatched out of their egg inside the honey comb. So it's pretty accurate to the insect. Also I like how you said they have a binky/pacifier on them, it is a good use of design to indicate the person that their babies.
would be cool if the beta arceus came before the new arceus and was uncatchable , then when you defeated it it became normal arceus and the text says "Arceus looks like hes testing you!" and you could catch it
Also, it seems like the process for creating a sprite/design is: Create a base design to work with in MS Paint or something similar Create back sprite in same way Finalize front sprite with sprite creation software (with proper shading and final given design) Finalize back sprite in same way
So many of the unfinished beta designs look like they could be baby, middle, or mega evolutions to their final designs. Cranidos -> Beta Cranidos -> Rampardos -M> Beta Rampardos as one example. Beta Togekiss split evo from Togetic, Dragon Fairy.
Dude abomasnows beta sprite was SOOO well done it’s a shame they changed it. The style of the spriter who made that one is honestly so good that I think it just looked too refined for the Pokémon style. Must have been the same person who did the detailed stunky backsprite
Giratina's beta design ties in perfectly to the statue in Eterna City (the gimmick is the statue looks like Dialga and Palkia at the same time, this sprite would have as well)
When I first saw these on twitter I was just in awe with how some of these Pokémon looked like during beta. I really loved Shinx’s design cause he was just a little baby with those baby eyes of his. Also seeing on Twitter it was mentioned that part of Darkrai’s beta design was used in the Japanese title for the 10th movie before it was finalized. I love seeing the changes Pokémon go through in designs and I really hope we get to see the other gens too at some point in the future.
Btw, Giratina originally had another name. If you look at it's description it says "Kimairan" Kimaira is Chimera in japanese so Giratina was supposed to be *Chimeran* ! Also, Darkrai was originally "Darray", which i guess it's Dark Ray shortened.
i think with Arceus they were going for making it look like a spirit or shadow of some sort. Like a 4th dimensional being, where you can see it silhouette but not it's like 'true' form perhaps. It would make sense if they had the concept of it being other worldly or godlike planned already, which i think they did since they had the type changes already planned.
In one of dobbs videos he theorized that the curse moves ??? Typing was going to be arcues regular typing maybe he was correct and the ??? Typing was that design
I think they might've had Giratina and Arceus' roles switched. Or at least a pokedex order change. Cause Giratina looks a lot more "godly" while Arceus looks a lot more "demonic".
Honestly I wish that this was Arceus have that dumb golden ring on him snap and he turns into this Gigantamaxed uncatchable formless blob the true unknowable but formless shape of God. It would be so cool they revisit the formlessness of Arceus in the remake. Make a sorta Delta Episode except instead of Rayquaza and Deoxys it would be Giratina and Arceus.
