Mercruiser Running Rough or Hesitating - Check This First (Easy Fix)

- If you have a Mercrusier that is running rough, misfiring, hesitating, especially under load - check the distributor cap terminals first. It's very common on these engines for them to become corroded & it's a simple fix.
This engine I'm showing you is a 2003 Mercrusier 5.7 350 Tow Sport, but the procedure will be the same for all engines with a distributor.

I cleaned mine with sand paper. Still misfires
When was the last time you changed the cap, rotor and spark plugs?
@Nautisphere well the engine has about 147hrs on it, so the sparkplugs are original, the Engine was a crate 350 mpi motor bought new 2019. Not sure how often the plugs are supposed to be changed, but the cap and rotor were changed about a year ago
@@travisconner1581 so mine is similar engine to yours. Repowered new engine spring 2021. Last year I could hear misfire while coming on plane sometimes. It also would buck while on plane but only sometimes. I changed cap, rotor and spark plugs. Went in on Friday. Took for a ride on Sunday. Ran fine while in marina and no wake. Got up on plane no problem, and super smooth. Cruised @ 28 MPH burning a little more than 12.5 GPH. Then all of a sudden started bucking. Throttled down, smooth and no problem. Just got a new anti-siphon and fuel line. Going to install tonight and do a quick video. Wish me luck and I’ll report how it works out.
@Nautisphere I don't know what's up with mine. Its like every other boat ride it works okay. Gonna put a few pressure guage on to see what's up. The place I bought my engine from gave me the fuel pressure port to test it. For some reason it was never installed
@@travisconner1581 I may do the same depending on what happens next. Harbor Freight seems to have a decent kit for $45
