To everyone who says you cant hear what he is saying , you totally can and this is an incredible rendition of this song, i'm a soprano and i sing this song and frankly he blows me out of the water!!!!!!!! Fantastic singer
Music for a while Shall all your cares beguile: Wond’ring how your pains were eas’d And disdaining to be pleas’d Till Alecto free the dead From their eternal bands, Till the snakes drop from her head, And the whip from out her hands.
WOW! Can I just say WOW?!!?!?? What a talent! What A BEAUTIFUL voice!!! Please don't stop, to post your BEAUTIFUL voice in the future!!!!!! OMG!!! !ENCORE!!! And Yoko, you have the sense of timing...! Pleaase post more!!!!!!!!!!! Pleaase?!????!!!!
Music For a While Henry Purcell Music, music for a while Shall all your cares beguile Shall all, all Shall all your cares beguile Wond'ring, wond'ring How your pains were eased, eased, eased And disdaining to be pleased Till Alecto free the dead Till Alecto free the dead From their eternal bands Till the snakes drop, drop, drop Drop, drop, drop, drop, drop from her head And the whip And the whip from out her hand Music, music for a while Shall all your cares beguile Shall all, all Shall all your cares beguile Shall all your cares beguile
I stumbled upon this video and I thought it was one of the most beatiful things I have ever heard Henry Purcell is my favorite composer and you do amazing justice to his pieces!
Baroque pieces are always handled well by countertenors. They have to put much thought into placing the voice in the head and the results if achieved sound stunning. Thanks for your interpretation.
(OMG @phlarrboi, I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU)! SO SHOW US, OH GREAT PHLARRBOI YOUR LINK to how it SHOULD BE SANG!! PLEASE!! YOU ARE JUST SOOO AWESOME!!!
@tmarie0929 There's actually very little wrong with his diction here. Bear in mind he's not English, and that he's using a lot of ornaments on the notes. I actually didn't know the words prior to hearing this, and was able to pick them up. If he was so bad, how could I do that?
@tmarie0929 I greatly respect your opinion, even if I disagree with it. :) I'm also a classical trained singer, and went to a college that had students from all over the world, so I've heard just about every accent going. I guess it's best to simply agree to disagree here. Some people WILL find him clear, and some won't.
wow, you do know you are talking about philippe jaroussky right? I mean, I know this video is more than 5 years old, but he is one of the most renouned countertenors nowadays.....
Philippe is one of the better falsetto countertenors well trained to sing alto-castrato music. More clear and precise than many and with higher notes than some so that he can assume roles not open to others. He has sung opera rolls which require greater power than this song. He should have an acceptional carreer.
@Falconiac Check out his dance moves here: "IX. Traditional: Pizzicarella mia / L`Arpeggiata" - totally cringe making. Still, he can sing really quite well, so even execrable play-acting can be forgiven: "'Ciaccona del Paradiso e del Inferno' P Jaroussky + Arpeggiata - Pluhar, life" Sorry, UA-cam does not allow the links to be posted, so just copy and paste the titles of the clips into the search bar. Enjoy!
I would say that his English isn't as good as his Italian, but certainly he is expanding his repertoire, and I'm sure he will continue to improve his English. I hope that one day his English will be on par with his Italian. This is no insult to this performance. It is simply that his performance of Italian music is more polished in terms of pronunciation.
that was a nasty slur on the last 'beguile' Other than that, and aside from some curious posture and distracting arm movements- his voice is absolutely stellar.
let me get this straight, a person tells you that they can't hear it, but you're telling them, no, you're wrong about that, actually you can hear it. Is that your point ?
I know this has nothing to do with the music , which is absolutely breath thaking by the way, but who clothed the poor man ?! His jacket is 246976252 sizes to big for him..
@rosalbasemiplena 99.9 % of the people listening to this wouldn't even notice its sung with "bad pronounciation" as you put it so why kick the guy down for 0.01 of a percent?
And one harpsichordist who plants nails widly under the voice of Jaroussky is really painful !
Harpsichord cannot change dynamics due to how the instrument is built, unlike a piano it doesnt have hammers. The changes in tempo are purely ways of phrasing the music
This is weird hahaha but cool to hear a male sing this high hehehe ..........nice voice he sounds really clean but like others mentioned diction needs work i cant understand what hes saying but honestly thats what happens to alot of classical singers...usually i never understand anything that is being said even though its in english
@skingaz well maybe its just me......but being that i am a classical trained singer and English native i could barely understand and if im saying it. it means he really needs a little work... im around non-native speakers alot in Texas and his english is not the best but hes not a american so we can let it slide. its just my opinion......no offense....I hear bad diction every Friday from college students ....My ear has just got use to the fact that most classical singers dont use diction well.
To everyone who says you cant hear what he is saying , you totally can and this is an incredible rendition of this song, i'm a soprano and i sing this song and frankly he blows me out of the water!!!!!!!! Fantastic singer
Or what about the fact he gets lots of the notes wrong
He must have got them wrong in the most fantastic way.
@kentcyclist curious what you base that on as nothing seems out of place to me musically nor clashes with the chords or structure.
Countertenors are very rare, and this young mand has a great gift. Loved it. Wonderful interpretation!
Merci Maestro Jarrousky
Magnifique comme toujours avec Phillippe
We seem to be living in an age of great counter tenors. 50 years ago the were very few.
Yes but the best two ones : Deller and Oberlin!
Funnily, the original tune is c minor rather than e flat minor and in normal tenor range.
The best music never dies...
This young man is an extremely talented countertenor, he need not be insulted for using and engaging in his gift.
lol

I have heard many versions ... This one is best
A most entrancing aria to beguile the while! This is a masterful interpretation by Mr. Jarrousky and skillful accompaniment by Yoko Anura. 👏
absolutely breathtaking, i can't believe how beautiful and incredible this sounds B_R_A_V_O!
Preciosa selección. Encantadora presentación. Gracias por compartir esta belleza. Aplausos, .

most beautiful counter tenor I could listen all day

O , my God! Splendid! God's voice! Thankks a lot!
Wow, it's amazing he can sing that High!
This is the art of singing!! Your technique and feelings are great
THANK YOU
all these people hating on this guy but id like to see them pull this off
This is amazing, beautiful sound

Superbe !

Purcell. Genius.
Lovely!
Sublime
Bravo !!! Bravo !!!!
WSPANIAŁY!...
Just perfect !!!!!
(OMG @phlarrboi, I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU)! SO SHOW US, OH GREAT PHLARRBOI YOUR LINK to how it SHOULD BE SANG!! PLEASE!! YOU ARE JUST SOOO AWESOME!!!
Wonderful! That's how a countertenor's voice must sound: Sweet and "velvet like".
Oh God, it's great!
who else came here from GCSE music lol :)
haha me lol
honestly my teacher cares too much much about this crap
No idea what you are talking about but it sounds pretty gay...
that was great, never mind the clothing!
sublime voix
Thanks!
philippe jaroussky is the most beautiful Alto. I recommands his vivaldi's record operatic arias.
Awesome..
BEATUFIUL
Wuuuuuuuuuuuuuunderschön!
@G0NZAL0666 This is Philippe Jaroussky.
chapeau...

not my best version but this is the most beautiful piece of music ever written
♥
Sam, I'd give you more thumbs up if I could!
The worst suit I've ever seen on him. But I love Jaroussky. He is amazing. Truly wonderful. Thanks for posting.
waw
1st year conservatorium? I performed Lost is my Quiet in my last year of high school. The boy who performed it with me also did Music for a while.
not at all my favorite version but it brings out the beauty of the piece!
only one mistake i can fin and it at 1:23 when he put too much emphasize on the t and it goes a bit sharp
Bravo!
I say just... Alfred Deller and Andreas Scholl ... Uau
Must be added: It is late 17th century english, and phonetics.

i love it im a counter tenor myself (a real one) and thats one of my fav. songs so look out 4 me im coming with vids soon.

Hello, what is the tonality of this music ?
alfred deller ....INSUPERABLE ._.
Nobody has sung this better than the late Russel Oberlin. Sorry.
the name and reputation didn't change what i hear... good luck
02:38 - 02:45.
that was a nasty slur on the last 'beguile'
Other than that, and aside from some curious posture and distracting arm movements- his voice is absolutely stellar.
TILL I CALAPSE IL BE SPITTING THESE RAPS
What is this a Conservatoire or Concert ?
A pox on the infamous cur who made that stumbling noise at 1:25
I just heard it too!
Is he singing falsetto?
Bisous Philippe 😚
mr bean?

slow downnnnn
@Stijn9019 :DDD
nice rendition... but the harpsichord player is waaaay too beaty! no sweetness in her sound....
This piece is not about "sweetness", it's about magic of music and death.
Sounds amazing - both hipnotizing and terrifying as it was made by Purcell.
let me get this straight, a person tells you that they can't hear it, but you're telling them, no, you're wrong about that, actually you can hear it. Is that your point ?

And one harpsichordist who plants nails widly under the voice of Jaroussky is really painful !

His voice was great but the harpsichordist was terrible, constantly bashing and hammering at the instrument and speeding up.
How loud the harpsichord plays depends entirely on the harpsichord. The player cannot change it.
Harpsichord cannot change dynamics due to how the instrument is built, unlike a piano it doesnt have hammers. The changes in tempo are purely ways of phrasing the music
A harpsichord is known for remaining in one dynamic

OK, maybe the holy gifted talented countertenor could go learn some English diction anyway.
Well, actually he had already done that, listen to any of his interpretations from 2009 on...
Imagine what French people think of English singers' French diction.
