The dignity, solemnity and sorrow through this is just incredible. It's always the same emotion each time I listen to it. I feel sad but it feels good.
It was through 'A Clockwork Orange' that I, until then a mediocre dance band musician, discovered and came to love Purcell AND started playing the trumpet and trained for three years at a music college.
Well, there I am. Conker, the king. King of all the land. Who've thought that? "But how did I come to this?", I hear you say. "And who are those strange fellows that surround my throne?", I hear you also say. Well, it's a long story. Come closer, and I'll tell you. It all started.... yesterday. And what a day that was. It's what I call a Bad Fur Day.
As ceremonial music for a solemn occasion, Purcell has no equal. Besides being a great musician, he surely understood the human heart. Many thanks to performers - and poster!
Really I have just heard a marvellous page: bravi, bravi, bravissimi!!! Furthermore I would avail myself of the occasion in order to express my wholehearted thanks to UA-cam: I am allowed by them to obtain at least some knowledge of pages written by composers [in this instance Henry Purcell] of whom in the best of instances I would know just the name but no more... And similar considerations have to be extended also to the actual performers: without UA-cam I would never have gained any acquaintance of Singapore Symphony [bravi!! bravi!! bravissimi!!!] nor of Ms. Sofi Jeannin, their [charismatic] female director. With my best wishes!!
There was me, That is Alex, and our three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, And Dim. And we sat there, at the korova milkbar, wondering out rasoodocks what to do with the evening. The korova milkbar sold milk plus, milk velocet, milk synthesmic, or drencrum, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and get you ready for a little bit of the old- ultra-violence
? Why would funeral music make you want to be violent. ...grow up you are online and people all over the world are reading this. There is enough trouble in the world without you adding to it. Be careful

It's strange people applauding the music, I understand why they do it, but it's funeral music. Like applauding before and after the Matthäus Passion, you just don't.
@@yumorules i know they do, and I fully understand, it just feels strange to do when you know the setting of the music and the solemn way it was intended.
A great shame, unworthy of the greatest composer working at the point of evolution from Renaissance to Baroque. It started well with a Purcell-friendly number of musicians, but fell off the right path when far too may singers wandered in. Quantity crushed quality and I decided to have another session with a more appropriate interpretation, also on UA-cam.

Yessssssssssss. John in ohio
It's incredible how Purcell uses the timpani in this music.
I think this was used in the procession to Westminster Abbey.
not sure the composer used timpani per se lol
look to moi like the bone gots valves lol
I think Timpani is actually scored "Ad Libitum"

Synthemesc, Vellocet, or Drencrom. Which should I have?
