  • My One Guitar Woman album was recorded at Blue Rock Studios in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, just outside Wimberley, Texas. It was the perfect setting to make an intimate, solo recording. We stayed on site for4 two days and nights and it was all recorded live without overdubs or redos.
Our engineer, Chris Bell recorded to Dolby Atmos surround sound so we used a ton of microphones to achieve that pristine sound.
One Guitar Woman was released March 29 2024 on Stony Plain Records, Produced by Mike Flanigin, Recorded and Mixed by Chris Bell, Mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London, England.

The album is out now and you can hear it on YT in it's entirety and buy it. It's excellent, up to Sue's high standards.

I was just about to comment how much you sound like mother Maybell, when you mentioned the Carter scratch.
    This album will be great!👍🎸

This sounds like perfect album for you to make. I sure enjoyed your performance when you were in West Kelowna a few years ago.

This is a really nice tribute project. 👍👍👍 You opened with Elizabeth Cotten's wonderful Freight Train and then went to Maybelle Carter. It makes me wonder if a Sister Rosetta Tharpe song appears on your album too. Your guitar sounds great. You certainly covered your bases and what a really unusually cool place to record. I have to put your One Woman Guitar album on my wish list. 🎸🎸🎸

Hi Sue, the location looks fabulous, but i cant help noticing you dont seem your normal self. Lacking your usual smile and sparkle, look a bit flat, or maybe im reading too much into it. Love your talent and musicianship and am always on the look out for new posts by you. Hope to see you Tour Australia some day in the not too distant future, take care, keep up the good work, Adam....🙏

Life has its challenges, and the world really isn't a happy place right now. I sense a lot of concern and worry in people. Women tend to be very sensitive to these things, because it's important for them to feel safe. Regardless, she's fine and as lovely as always when you think about the state of the world. Her music is certainly helping us all get through.

I would be incredibly fascinated to find out one of the women she's covering is,,, is,,, my forgetfulness of late I give to my ascendant age is crippling me now as a matter of fact. The woman was a great devotee of the Blues standards, of other African American women Blues singers, and men. She was slash is of course non African American. I can say the star of whom I speak was especially dedicated to Mississippi Delta Blues - always want to capitalize the 'B' in Blues for some reason - I hold it so highly in the hallmark of Americana, Yes. But I cannot remember the gal's name for the life of me. She was awkwardly a high end soprano, almost screeched sometimes when she sang, but was so, so dedicated to her craft she required admiration - am struggling to come up with her name if I can just say enough but it's not coming to me. It would seem all the women she covered were contraltos for sure - at least that's what I recall or that's the way their 78 discs made them all sound - all that old portable, carried in the trunk of a car recording equipment of the 1930s and 40s. Obviously it's gone, my one memory cell, and she's gone too, cuz cannot remember her name, but, But, BUT She was Great!!! So am confident Ms. Foley didn't forget her and look forward to getting her new "One Guitar Woman (Session!?!)" CD when it comes out.

Your album is just wonderful ! Was surprised at first that you used this nylon string guitar but it sounds amazing on teh record. I'm wondering why you choose nylon instead of a regular folk guitar with metal strings ?

The Spanish guitar is where the guitar began; there's also a Spanish/Mexican cultural influence in Texas. There are two songs on the album that are Spanish songs, so it makes sense to use the Castillo on those songs. Maybe she wanted the guitar to be consistent across all of the songs. A Spanish guitar (classical guitar really) has a really nice sound that lends itself to Sue's energetic playing. One Christmas, I played a slow Christmas Carol for my family on a Spanish guitar. It was just so special and soulful. 🎸🎸🎸
