Could be worse, like that cursed Krinkov parts kit AK where the gas block launched downrange upon firing, or the M70 parts kit AK that was on Brandon's channel where someone used a standard 80% stamped AK lower, beat it into place with a ball peen hammer around the front trunion/front end assembly of an M70 parts kit, then used hardware screws, bolts and nuts to "hold" it together.

Unrelated anecdote: I used to laugh at people covering up rails because it "cuts" their hands. I am a blue-collar man, my palms are leather and I love the look of bare Picatinny, I don't need covers. Fast forward to me practicing moving and shooting. I misjudged the distance I needed to clear a door and the rail hit the frame parallel-y. The rail sections dug in to my hand and took off some of my skin. I still don't cover my rails but I now understand why people do it. Also invested in some nice gloves.

Hey now those newer TWS doglegs are actually great. My friend has one in his SLR-104. Consistent hits on standard IPSC out to 400 meters. We haven't taken it any further but in comparison to my RS Regulate side rail I would say it's much easier to service the gun with the TWS. That being said you do lose your standard rear sight with the TWS. The only serious practical reason I could see one wanting a TWS or any other railed dust cover, over any other mounting solution is for a side folder. That way you can have your stock/brace folded with your optic installed. Only solution for us side rail guys is the Magpul Zhukov.
Fair enough, that makes sense. But I still don't see the dust cover as a practical scope mount. Maybe the ones made like this are modified to fit perfectly in the same position, every time. But it's hard to believe being that I've never actually seen one up close or used one...
I purchased the TWS dog leg for my Mak-90 due to the fact it doesn't have a side rail. None of my mounted optics have ever lost zero while I shot or even after tossing my gun in the back of my truck. I can vouch for their dependability.

The main problem with them is people equate them with the older style crappy "dust cover rail" that really is just a rail stuck on a dust cover, because they look similar and occupy the same space on the rifle. They are designed as a rail first, with solid lockup at both front and rear, especially in the latest versions. They happen to also have enough extra material added that they can fulfill the dust covering role too.

if you want a practical gun, the modifications you make should be practical, if someone can build a rifle that performs in competition, combat, or hunting or as good or better for half the price and half the weight then what do you optimize for?

For those not familiar Juhannus is kind of a Finnish St. Patrick's day when people get a bit tipsy. It is belived that making noise and getting drunk on Juhannus will bring good luck and oust away the bad spirits. Also more drunk you are the better the harvest will be.

Well, not only in Finland! It’s an old tradition here in Sweden to drink akvavit and beer, get really drunk. It’s an old Norse tradition and had something to do with the goddess Freya, who was associated with love, beauty, fertility, sex and stuff. The result often shows in a lot of babies being born 9 months later. I know Finland had other gods at that time, but I’m sure they probably also was used for an excuse to get drunk and laid!😉

This gun is a joke, adding useless parts to a rifle only makes it heavier
if you want a practical gun, the modifications you make should be practical, if someone can build a rifle that performs in competition, combat, or hunting or as good or better for half the price and half the weight then what do you optimize for?
