  • How can you know if BetterHelp therapists are qualified? I provide my opinion on this based on my professional opinion as a psychotherapist as well as my experience as a client of BetterHelp. I also share how you can more pro-actively choose a therapist you resonate with on the better help platform: this is a little trick on the BetterHelp website that helps you review the therapists in YOUR state and choose one before you sign on.

    I am a qualified therapist and I have recently been contacted by Betterhelp in the UK, so I'm guessing they must be expanding.
    They wanted all my professional membership qualifications and professional membership numbers and seem to have a thorough vetting system.
    I haven't joined as have not had time, but I'm commenting for the poor person who has had a bad experience with therapy (which I'm saddened to hear) in the hope that this might help you.

    I wish therapy would be more affordable. The reality is: it ain't easy to make the income necessary to afford therapy when your metal health struggles are causing you to barely get by, which compounds in a negative way. Even with my ppo insurance, it's typically about $122/ session until deductible is met for normal therapy outside of betterhelp

    This video was so helpful for me in breaking down some of the fundamental questions I've had about the mental health/therapy industry.
    I've spent so much time going down rabbit holes that explain psychological concepts, but have really wanted clarity on accessing these resources. Learning seemingly simple or straight forward distinctions like who can prescribe medications was huge for me!
    Thank you for also taking the time to walk us through possible ways to navigate the website. I'm still inching my way toward finding the help I need but I really appreciate your contribution (:

    Some states are now allowing for therapists to see clients in different states and countries, fyi

      Yes, during the pandemic with emergency waivers, some states have been doing this. Some have stopped it, and it does go state by state. Some states never allowed it. It is quite confusing! Other than the emergency waivers, I'm not aware of any state that allows someone licensed in another state to practice without at least going through the paperwork of that state, and being awarded some type of practice license. If you know of one that does, please share!

    I have had some awful therapy here in the UK with some terrible therapists. I have been thinking of trying Betterhelp but am naturally wary about therapy as a whole following my personal experience so seeing a therapist profile like you can if you live in a state in the US would help me. Is it possible to still view the profiles if you aren't in the US and therefore can't choose a State to see the therapists working there?

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  2 роки тому

      Yes. If you are overseas, it doesn't matter which state the therapist is licensed in. I think to view the therapists, you will have to pick a few different locations and pull up therapists. I know it can be so hard to find someone...

    I'm a therapist on Betterhelp. My issue is that I have absolutely no idea what the clients I see are being charged and what they are entitled to interms of number of sessions, as well as if they get charged for 'no shows'. This feels unethical as we are unable to negotiate properly and I have sometimes asked but its too complex for them to go into. Unlike other agencies I dont get paid if they don't turn up whereas the client is charged (I think, or loses a session) . Also therapy in the UK online is usually around £45 privately so I feel they misslead subscribers by saying they would have to pay $100 a session. Private therapists dont charge for the holidays whereas Betterhelp clients have to pay regardless if the therapist sees them or not. In private practice if I need to take time out for holiday I work around this with clients whereas Betterhelp badger therapists constantly to make sure they have lots of slots available. So we turn down other work only to find if a client doesnt turn up we dont get paid. Its interesting that you are affiliated with them yet chose not to work for them.

      I've noticed that you've been making the same comment on other BetterHelp videos people have made. You sound like a bot or you work for them and trying to get people back into it or something to that affect. It's a scam of a company and if they were as good as they claim to be there wouldn't be LOADS of UA-cam videos with people who have used BH and all had horrible experiences. Real therapists don't use or recommend BH for obvious reasons.

      @@samantha4045 why would I say negative things about them if I was trying to promote them?
