Thank you yes females run bigger due to the need to carry eggs. I have a youtube 10 minute video coming tomorrow on Bull Snakes

    Hello there KG Constrictors,
I found your relative old video called ‘Breeding Your Own ASF African Soft Fur Rats’ Somebody asked a question about inbreeding you answered the following:
“Thank you and yes i have been successfully breeding them since i started my first colony in October of 2021. They are great mothers and I find it perfect to keep 4 females to one male. Litters every 23 days from each female. Yes you can in breed them. I started with 5 females and 1 male and created lots of new colonies with brothers and sisters and they are all doing fine. In nature in breeding i the asf world is standard as they dont tolerate outside rats coming in to their colony.”
So I was wondering if you introduced new gene into your colony by now, or are still breeding with the old stock? And did you saw a drop in litter size after awhile? I heard that a ASF first few litters will be low and after that it will become around 15+. But what about inbreeding colonies, also heard that after a while of in breeding the litter size will decrease in size. The reason I ask this because I just started with ASFs and there is only one place in my region I can get them. So basically I’m stuck in the inbreeding loop.

Hey JB great questions. So far i have stuck with the inbred colonies. I am going to introduce some babies from a buddy’s colonies to mix it up a little. I am on the second generation of colonies.
So after a year the first 5 original colonies began to sputter on production as expected. So i started 7 new colonies from mixed litters but all related like all of mine are. So far since December 2022 when i started these out production is still excellent. Now one would think if i keep doing this maybe the production will start to drop. The main reason i decided to inbreed was the parents of the first litter were gentle and great parents. Not one has ever tried to bite me even to this day. My buddy has equally friendly asfs so i will be getting a few colonies from him in mid June.
I will make another video to follow up on my trials and tribulations soon. Asfs have definitely made a huge difference in the growth rate of my ball pythons and colubrids.
      Thank you for the questions!
