'' Why she gotta be fine..? cus I'd definitley be tryina talk to her '' LOL And that's one reason mainman said '' I never cared for beautiful women '' cus he knows how dangerous bad chicks can be
That scene around 3:45 is so good. They are speaking Portuguese when we hear English and then slowly the use of the translators disappears but they keep the subtitles. It's some slick TV writing and shot framing.
Toranaga hit the assassin on the left side of her neck severing her jugular. The fastest way to bleed out a person. With how sharp those swords are he didn't need to strike very hard, especially when in the hands of someone so skilled
We eating good with Shogun and Invincible , I've had some good time with these shows and their reactions for the past weeks and I appreciate such good quality content
Shogun, the original James Clavell novel, is indeed a bit like "Game of Thrones" ( with also strong elements of "Succession" and "House of Cards" thrown in) set in feudal Japan. Its based on real history, in the late stages of the Sengoku era in the late 1500s to early 1600s, when the death of the reigning warlord unleashed a power struggle to determine who will rule Japan. There is a lot of scheming, backstabbing and divided loyalties. Toranaga, the character that Hiroyuki Sanada plays, is based on the real life Tokugawa Ieyasu.
We finally got a proper "Ninja Assassin" on TV and yet barely anybody recognize her as such. The black-overall-shadow-treading-Naruto-throwing-stars shii portrayal really destroyed the definition of it.
Toranaga told Anjin to take his room knowing he was going to meet with the portuguese priest and tell him that Anjin gave that information and would go back and tell the Christian regent that Anjin is giving up valuable info....Toranaga knew assassins would be sent after him. Toranaga also sacrificed all those housekeepers just to see where the assassin would end up . Toronaga just stuffed his bed and stayed awake waiting.
Nice! Finally you are journeying into this incredible remake. You’re in for a treat. The original book became a big bestseller & the original 1980 tv mini series was one of the first epic multipart tv shows that was hugely influential. The book & 1980 show were important works of art & entertainment but were also important culturally. In the 1970’s things from Japan, which was a historically insular nation, such Japanese culture, pop culture, brands, etc started to become popular. Brands like Honda, Toyota & Sony had become well-known. However interest in Japan increased a great deal & the success Shogun was one of the contributing factors. Now we see sushi restaurants everywhere & things like anime, manga, Nintendo, etc have become a hugely popular. So the 1980 tv miniseries was much beloved & Toranaga was played by one of the 20th Century’s most revered, respected & successful Japanese actors Toshiro Mifune. So this remake had huge shoes to fill. It’s fitting that one of the best modern actors Hiroyuki Sanada who is well known to US audiences plays Yoshi Toranaga in the remake. They went all out in the production which is deserved. It has even surpassed the great expectations for it. Everything is amazing from the acting to the costumes to the sets to the cinematography. Every week it seems like the show gets better which is difficult to pull off. Obviously its easy to hype it up but the proof is in the pudding & the reception for it has been outstanding across the board. Anyway, glad you are delving into it. Excited to see your reactions. I believe you guys will love it like everyone else.
I love this episode as it really starts to unpack just how clever Torunaga is - playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. But episode 3 is probs the best one so far, can't wait for your reaction to that one.
I would've liked to see that assassin have a fight with Toronaga instead of him getting her from behind , cus I wanted to see how good she'd be at a fight beside all those silent kills she got
@14:42 The reason why Brazil largely speaks portuguese unlike the rest of South America is because Brazil fell east of the line drawn in the Treaty of Tordesillas by Spain and Portugal.
First love the intro to the show that is so good. I agree it is a GOT’s ideals to this show. I was thinking that is like Arya as one of her a girl has no name type of killing.

This show just keeps getting better and better! I'm not ready for it to be over soon in the next few weeks.

Damn nice catch

"...I'm coming back as a katana or sumthin'..." 😅😆

She's a ninja; Toranaga is a Samurai; Toranaga would have handled her.
He got her with one blow, John came in with a sort of clean-up strike. Love how Toronaga just popped her off her feet with deadly focus. 🗡️
Torunaga really karate chopped her in the neck with a samurai sword... crazy
I havent been this hook to a tv show, since GoT.
