  • The Big Manistee River near Manistee, Michigan is world famous for it's steelhead fishery. In the winter time, this river system attracts countless chrome giants and one of the best ways to catch them is using a tiny jig baited with a wax worm and fished below a float. The Yakima Maxi Jig and Maxi Float are featured on this episode featuring Mark and river guide Bob Ison of Another Limit Charters. Mark is also joined by steelheading enthusiast Bryan Darland of Jay's Sporting Goods. The team literally put the smack down on big steelhead taking advantage of something called the winter bug bite.
Fishing 411 with Mark Romanack is designed to make you a better angler. From lure selection, choosing your tackle, to locating fish; Fishing is here to bring you more success on the water.

Using a knotless net is pointless if you stick your hand in the fish's gills and rub all the slime off it before you release it. Catch and release mortality rate is high enough with proper handling. Any sportsman should know better.

theres absolutely nothing wrong with gently putting ur fingers just in the flap of the fishes gill plate ..... people do it all around the world and many experienced anglers do it aswell i do not personally do it very often but its not a big deal ... when im cleaning my fish off before i take a pic and release it i gently hold the gill plate and splash water on it so relax..... clearly hes been doing this for a while

matthew virgioni Just because you or he has been doing it for a while makes it no more proper than any other form of mishandling of fish.. Popularity of something being done wrong doesn't make it correct.. or justify it... read and learn rookie
