Perhaps the album that I listened to the most in my youth. It's so good that today I was thinking of listening to a couple of songs and I listened to the whole thing. Wherever you are, Syd, we will always love you. Your light was so bright that we are still here, inspired.
Syd Barrett - - Barrett - -From Wikipedia - - Barrett is the second and final studio album of new material released by former Pink Floyd frontman Syd Barrett. Recording began at Abbey Road Studios on 26 February 1970, and lasted for 15 sessions until 21 July.[ The album was produced by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Richard Wright, who also contributed on bass and keyboards respectively, along with previous Madcap contributor Jerry Shirley on drums. Barrett was released in November 1970 on Harvest in the United Kingdom, but unlike his debut LP The Madcap Laughs it failed to chart; it was re-released in 1974 as part of Syd Barrett, which was the first US issues of these LPs. No singles were issued from the album. It was remastered and reissued in 1993, along with Barrett's other albums − The Madcap Laughs (1970) and Opel (1988) − independently and as part of the Crazy Diamond box set. A newly remastered version was released in 2010. Background The initial sales and the critical and public reaction to Barrett's first solo album, The Madcap Laughs, were deemed sufficient and enthusiastic enough by EMI to sanction a second solo album by Barrett.[4] On 24 February 1970, a month after releasing The Madcap Laughs, Barrett appeared on John Peel's Top Gear radio show, where he performed only one song from the newly released album ("Terrapin"), three that would later be recorded for Barrett ("Gigolo Aunt", "Baby Lemonade" and "Effervescing Elephant"), and a one-off ("Two of a Kind", which was written by Richard Wright). The session producers had no verbal contact with Barrett, having communication with him only via Gilmour. For the radio session, Gilmour and Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley accompanied Barrett on bass and bongos, respectively. The version of "Gigolo Aunt" recorded for the radio session (and later released on 1988's The Peel Session) was unfinished, as Barrett had sung the opening verse three times.[ Barrett played slide guitar on the radio version of "Baby Lemonade", with Gilmour on organ. Two days later, he began working on his second album in Abbey Road Studios, with Gilmour as producer, and a trio of musicians: Richard Wright, Shirley and Gilmour.[The main aim for the Barrett sessions was to give Barrett the structure and focus many felt was missing during the long and unwieldy sessions for The Madcap Laughs. Thus, the sessions were more efficiently run and the album was finished in considerably less time than The Madcap Laughs (six months, compared to Madcap's one year).[ On 6 June 1970, Barrett gave his one and only official solo performance, at the Olympia in Kensington, backed once more by Gilmour and Shirley. At the end of "Octopus", the fourth number of the set, Barrett baffled the audience and his backing musicians by abruptly taking off his guitar and walking off stage.- -Track listing Original release All tracks are written by Syd Barrett Side one No. Title Notes Length 1.
@@carlosclaptrix Wel... He was not a great instrumentalist; He wasn't very technical, but neither was John Lennon. Syd was innovative, original, he was able to improvise interesting and beautiful melodies in the recording studio (this is how he made most of his songs). He was a unique and revolutionary lyricist and was very influential, both for psychedelia and punk. He influenced the Beatles in 1967 and was David Bowie's idol. I'm sorry you don't like Syd's apathy and sloppiness, but he was precisely capable of being great without any effort, while the rest of humanity spend their lives trying to be something they are not. For all that he is one of the most important musicians of the 20th century. Of course, his time with Pink Floyd is superior and more focused than his solo albums, where his depression and schizophrenia are evident.
Both Syd's solo albums are full of his quirky whimsical songs that are no different than what he was presenting earlier to the band in '67. Had some of the solo tracks been recorded and produced by Norman Smith or others at that time they might have provided more singles - anyway, that's another world.
Tbh, for all the ooohs and aaahs with, say, Hendrix or blackmore, Clapton or Iommi: Syds wined and dined solo @ 31:14 is still is the only one that has me floating peacefully on a cloud in a different strata. Or should I say lying on an eiderdown ("flaming" - piper ar the gates") :) So beautiful.
I always loved the simple, lofty, dreamy character that Cyd Barrett infused into early Pink Floyd. It was this quality that drew me to them in the late 60’s.

Just in the first few opening chords you can hear Syd in Pink Floyd and vice versa! Already you hear the sound scaping that made Floyd a forerunner of sound layering in Rock & Psychedelic Music! For me it was their Meddle, but I loved a couple of songs on the Ummagumma album, Grantchester Meadows and Blue Sky's on the Wall has a similar sound scaping! What I love about the Big Rock Bands of the 60's, you can go back through their previous work and hear a musical thread that runs through their music! The only exception to that! Was Led Zeppelin! They were born fully formed! And slapped you in the face with their Rock! It was a sound shock! But Floyd is my Band and after knowing the Syd Barrett story! Floyd paid homage to Syd and his Musical Genius from the Dark Side, Wish, Animals and Wall! I hear it in their music! Was Syd better than Floyd as a Band? Not sure? But for sure Syd wasn't less than the Band! As individuals they knew it too! This is the first time I've listened to Syd's Music! I can hear a lasting influence he left on Pink Floyd! Very Cool! Thanks
Syd Barrett’s music always stands though the test of time ..a brilliant musical genius on the verge of mental breakdown but that’s probably the only reason these solo albums exist after his departure from pink floyd
I love this wonderful Pink Floyd record!! Because this has 3 Pink Floyd members (just like The Final Cut, A Momentary Lapse Of Reason, The Division Bell, and The Endless River), it's a Pink Floyd record!!

Thankful to have this one on Vinyl… Rats and Dominoes are such amazing songs. God Bless Syd, Rest in Peace
Legendary album. Nothing at the time came remotely close to what is on display in this album. This channel is the perfect reminder of that.
Agreed.
I'm glad I bought it on vinyl originally 😃
grande Syd
Этот альбом - подражание BEATLES. В гармониях, мелодизме и даже в вокале.
@@Lambonbrod This is at best an imitation of Pink Floyd... В лучшем случае это имитация Pink Floyd...
Yeah, Syd's solo work available for everybody to enjoy. Thank you !

Sir, thank you so much!
it's with my greatest pleasure that I am listening to it live
