- Today I'm prepping some long term food storage. I'll be using 1 gallon mylar bags, standard lunch bags and 300cc oxygen obsorbers and using a standard "food saver" style vacuum sealer.
Good video. I tried to seal a mylar bag. Learned that I needed the seal bag strip. Thanksl
Excellent video, thank you 👍👍👍.
Melbourne, Australia.
Thanks and You're welcome 👍🏽
Did some dry goods in jars but wanted to do bags. Thanks for posting this hack.
Great idea Mike I didnt think to use paper bags inside!
do you happen to have the link for this specific vacuum seal? i had to return the one i found, could not figure out how to use with my mylar
Great video, short and sweet!
How clever!
Thanks 🙏🏽
Nice
Would the paper bag break down after 20 years or does it hold up since there is no air?
If you did a proper seal on it I would think it would last quite a while, but since I haven't had one on the shelf for 20 years I couldn't say for sure
You'll be using it by next year or sooner.
@@sandrajohnson9926 what?
@@MikeJrOfficial thanks.
Could you please tell me what brand sealer you are using, mine won't get hot enough to seal a mylar bag. Tganks!
Heat sealer that came with my freeze dryer not powerful. Bought skinny flat iron for less than $20, works great even on 9.5 ml mylar bags.
Arent you supposed to use only one method? Either oxi absorber or vacuum sealing ? Not both.
How could both hurt? I don't know about "supposed to" but most people only do one or the other
For foods requiring maximum oxygen removal, doing both is quite acceptable.
I'm open ears to hear the logic as to why
What size mylar bag were you using? Please and thank you 🙏

What thickness is the bags are they like 5 mil or 7 mil?
7mil
How successful was this after 5 or 10 years?
I wouldn't know but I check them regularly and they're holding. I have no reason to believe they wouldn't last 20 years
I have 9 mil bags and am having trouble finding a sealer that will work. Does yours seal a 9 mil bag?
I haven't tried 9mil but I also bought a Sealer machine that would definitely do any thickness
@@MikeJrOfficial Thank you for the quick response. On your thread, you had posted the machine and looking at the website, the machine is unavailable, 😞

@@11bprepper52 you're welcome! here is the sealer only machine I bought.
I just received 5 mil from Wallaby... are mylar bags supposed to smell weird? Ick! I would think the food stored inside would end up taking on the odor. *first time user
Yeah that doesn't sound right, send them back
What's the name of that machine ?

@@MikeJrOfficial do you have to have special mylar bags to vacuum seal?
@@The_Healing_Facilitator no, but thicker bags are preferred. Make sure you use a good heat sealer on the bags though. The standard vacuum sealer at Walmart will not heat up enough to get a permanent seal on the bags
