    I haven't used my machine for years and was looking for advice to maintain it.
    You have inspired me with your straightforward, practical, down to earth approach.
    Thank you.

    Thanks for showing how to take care of an Overlocker. I have always maintained my sewing machines after every sewing project I have done. I have just purchased my Christmas 2020 present to myself (a Janome 9300dx) and I am waiting for it to arrive within the next few days. I am looking forward to learning how to thread, unthread and give it a mini service without any trepidation. Thanks V.

    I've actually stripped my serger down to the metal and re-timed the upper looper - and you know why? Because I watched one of your previous videos and followed what you did! I cleaned the whole thing and put it all back together and now it works like a charm. I'm so grateful, thanks loads!

    I always love your sensible approach to maintenance and I agree with you 100%, there's no need to pay silly money for something that you can buy much cheaper - if it does exactly the same thing. Thanks for sharing. I'm just about to oil my Jaguar overlocker so I knew exactly which channel to look at for advice. I haven't used my overlocker for a few months, so I'd forgotten where to put it...x

      Absolutely! Companies like to make us think “you get what you pay for” and in this industry, there are so few manufacturing what we need, so the product is rebranded and bottled differently, but it’s all the same. ☺️

    Thanks for this video. I have the very same machine that has sat idol for years. So wanted to give it an oiling before pressing the foot down. Here we go.

    Thanks Abi, great video and good advice. Thanks for your kind offer of advice keeping our machines running too. Anxious times for us all, but if we look after each other it will help. Take care, stay safe 👍😃

    Fabulous video, thank you for making this. My machine isn't working properly and apart from a quick dust it's never occurred to me to properly clean it and oil it. I will follow your instructions and give it a go when I have some spare time and hopefully it will solve the problem.

    Really helpful. Thank you. I sewed some black fluffy fabric which left a right mess in my machine. I need to do this.

      I used to work as a demonstrator at the Singers Sewing machine shop, the main thing is keeping your machines clean saves on servicing.

    I have this machine and there’s little on utube about it. My manual was a vhs video long sent to charity with the recorder! Thank you for this. It helped enormously. Question can you please help me with a close up of how to fit the spreader for 2 thread rolled hem please. I just can’t work out how the base attaches. Thanks so. Did you have attachments for this machine? I do. Would love help in setting them up. I recently worked out the gathering attachment and it’s fabulous.

    Great tutorial Abi, I have the same machine but in Canada it’s a Pro 4 DX I am always cleaning my machines out. I have a Brother 2800D combination sewing quilting embroidery machine, apart from keeping it clean how can I maintain it more eg: oiling, at home. I’m an hour away from my dealer now so the more I can take care of it myself the better as I’m retired now. Where do you buy your boxes of SCHMETZ needles? Very helpful video thank you Val 🇨🇦🇬🇧❤️

    Wow! Thank you so much for this. My machine is not chaining and I have cleaned it and oiled it. My last resort now is new needles. (Only now, that I am researching how to service and troubleshoot my machine am I realizing that needles should be replaced quite often, or most problems stem from needles being old, bent or just wrong - We live and learn)

    • @nicolasmith1460

      Check you’ve threaded in the right order! That’s usually the problem. 🤞

    Thank you for this valuable information, I have learned many things new to me notwithstanding the harshness of black thread! Who knew that?
    I have just acquired a Janome 9300dx red model and will do a thorough clean on it tomorrow. It is a second, third or fourth hand machine and needs replacement parts I think.
    The looper front cover is loose and the spring mechanism doesn't work properly. The rod that goes through the spring is bent eg, it doesn't snap back into place when closing over the threading compartment. An excellent tutorial including engineering knowledge about oil! Thank you.:)

      JIM HOOPER Hi Jim. It’s a good machine, isn’t it? I had mine for over 20 years and accidentally sold it. I’ve managed to come across a few since. I installed standard (universal) 80. Nothing special. I prefer to use Schmetz. I hope you’re looking after yourself. Keep well!

    I have janome 7933. Problem I'm assuming it has never had service, I bought it used, your video is so helpful. My upper looper thread keeps detaching from lower needle. What should I do.

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  Рік тому

      Glad it helped!the key thing is to look for what’s snagging or catching the thread along the thread map. See if you can pull the thread yourself rather than run the machine. The problem should present itself. Do this with the foot up. Also, servicing your own machine means saving money, the assurances that it has been actually serviced (so many people pay for services that never happened) and learning about servicing your own machine, even if you can’t do it yourself, means you know what to expect when it returns back to you.

    Hi Abi, I am building up a stash now of used needles and was wondering what the recommended way of disposing of them is? Im worried of just throwing them with the main rubbish even if I tape them up or something.

    • @AbisDen

      Hey Mitchell, in the UK we have our small household recycling collections, but also recycling centres to take them to. Where are you? And why haven’t we met in AC yet?

    • @Normit08
      @Normit08 4 роки тому

      Abi's Den thanks for the reply. I live in Northampton but we have one big recycling wheelie bin for everything so not sure. One last question I have is, do you oil your Brother F420 machines? I have an A150 but it says not to oil but don’t want to pay for servicing as I want to do it all myself. I can make some time this week for AC :)

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  4 роки тому +1

      Mitchell Nortje yes, I know the A150. Good machine 😊. You only need to add the occasional drop in the centre of the bobbin area, depends on how often you manage to fill it with fluff. I lived in Northampton for a few years, my saree fabric shop was in St James.. Collect needles in a jar and maybe message the council? I’m sure they have a collection point. 😊

      I live in Northampton, needles, pins, anything sharp goes into a jam jar, when it’s full I seal it, stick a label on it, (caution sharp) and put into the general waste for incineration, recycling is sorted by hand and would hate for someone to be stabbed

    Don’t have time to watch this right now, so it may be addressed, but anyone know why my right needle thread keeps breaking? I have this same machine. Years ago I saw this question and it was an easy fix and now I can’t find it. 😭

      Janine Martin is the needle in properly? Is it hitting the plate? Maybe it’s hitting the loopers? Give it a clean and try again x

    Hi Abi hope your well in these trying times. I have the brother overlocker M343D I purchased after watching your video on the two similar overlocker comparisons. This last week I have had problems with the left needle it keeps missing stitches for about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. I have changed needles and the overlocker is clean. This happens on jersey fabric but not cotton. Is there anything you could suggest to help me able to use it again. Regards Carol

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  4 роки тому +1

      Hi carol, it seems the needle you’re using isn’t a ballpoint. When using an overlocker, use the needles you would do as though you’re using a sewing machine, so for chiffon, I might use a 60, for leather, 100 . Hope that helps
