    Very helpful, I also use 240v tools for heavy drilling etc, they are much cheaper and more powerful than cordless. I really like the 12v Makitas, they are good value. I think Milwaukee spend a lot of money on advertising, there are lots on videos on youtube about how good Milwaukee is but I bet some of them are sponsored, and the Milwaukee tools are maybe 50% more cost but I dont think they are any better.

    Great video. I still don't understand completely about the stated torque specifications on these drill/drivers. I was under the impression that 1st gear was the higher torque but lower RPM, while 2nd gear was higher RPM but lower torque. Like a car's gearing. If that's not the case it's really confusing. So where does the higher torque number apply?

    • @MarekKubi
      @MarekKubi  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks. Yes, like a car gears. Or actually like on bicycle. If in front you use one socket, but on the rear 2 different size, then when pressing on the pedal you get more power with bigger socket at the rear. But less speed. Measuring the NM they count rotating speed, so bigger speed, better torque on the paper. Look for the lower number if they show 2 of Nm.

      Thanks for compliment. I dont believe, that faster charging decrease battery lifespan. I believe this is some sort of oldschool theory. But I heard, that if you dont plan to use batteries for few months or so, then keeping charging level at 70% is best for health. I ruined one battery, because I stored it in cold garage. But 10,8V makita batteries agter 3 years of use are still like newones. And I have a fast charger for them.

      Hey, yes you can drill with impact drill, when you use a special bit. For small work it is totally fine, but for big works the driver drill is better. Because drill bits for impact drivers are wiggling and can be more costly. 485 is also good drill, just a bit weaker.

    Great video! Very well explained. I was wondering if there is real benefit to have hammer mode for masonry? For example your recomended DF333DZ vs HP333DWAE which has hammer mode. In my country there is only 5 Euro difference in price between both drills. I am into diy stuff where I might need to drill in masonry. Thank you!

    • @MarekKubi
      @MarekKubi  Рік тому +1

      Hey. Thanks for your feedback. Personally I have drills without drill mode. Because I have perforator also for masonry. Drilling mode just add some extra weight and length, but I am pretty choosable, for what I will hold in hands :D Before I got cordless perforator I had df333 with hammer mode and used it sometimes. It didnt work with concrete. Maybe too bad bits. But in softer walls I got some holes up to 10mm. I heard that on 18v drills the hammer mode works better. This red corded electric drill in video have drilling mode and I used that in concrete also and worked ok (just 10x slower than perforator).
      To sum up my advice, then hammer mode on 12v tool can help in some situations, but you can not rely on that, when some heavier work will come (concrete or 30+ holes). I quess 18v would work better in that scenario. I had demolishion work and needed some hammering mode without rotating for removing old tiles. So I invested in a perforator with hammering mode. Really depends on your level and your future plans. I myself have some chinese corded tools also, which cost some 5x less than makita. I just use them once per 2 years maybe, so I am happy to own some cheap tools also. Good to borrow to the friends also cheaper tools.

    i will make some observations here. dewalt have many problems with speed switches, chucks (dcd 790,795). makita batteries has a short longevity compare with dewalt. but makita wins at affordable prices for spare parts, a numerous service units. Nowdays all the manufacturers decrease their tools quality, it is hard to say which line of tools by a manufacturer is the best, i think we look more in detail and discuss about one model from a entire level!! for example i had to cut with an angle grinder a stucked chuck at dcd 795, after a series of speed selector switch, the second speed is not working because of a design flaw of speed selector. At makita ddf 484 i experienced a problem ; with gear ring set for drill, so clutch not engaged, the machine make a noise like was in a drive mode with clutch activated, and the piercing screw not moving, a 4,5 mmX40mm in a rectangular steel of 3 mm, so not a big task for the most powerfull model of makita 18v middle size drill drivers. Please dont take my comment like a hate!😅

    • @MarekKubi
      @MarekKubi  Рік тому +1

      Hei Felix! My thoughts are more theoretical and last years I dont work anymore on building. So your experience in durability is probably more valuable. In home usage I am pretty gentle with my tools. I dont drop them, dont leave them in a rain and I dont hurry with my projects. So probably even noname tools may last on me. But noname tools are too uncomfortable :D. What I like in R&D is DeWalt new smaller 18v battery. That is the way to go. I am not the fan of 40v batterys. I prefer corded tools perhaps. So it is all according to your preference and needs. I like to read comments about others experience. In the summer I will make a 200kg welding table and I will use my 484 to drill 20mm holes in the 10mm thick steel. So I can experience, how many smaller holes I need to drill before I can use 20mm bit with a middle size drill :D
