Camping at Midmar Dam | Night two | things went wrong.....

This was one of the best campsites I have ever been to. Amazing views of the dam, trees all around, leaves on the floor. Although it was a wonderful site, it did come with some trouble.
In my previous video I spent night one at Midmar dam and I did some exploring of the area and there were some interesting attractions. So since this was night two I decided to go further down the road to some remote places. There were great fishing spots that looked very peaceful and the entire area was a great place for a picnic.
Later in the day I decided to out out to find something to eat at a town nearby. I set the destination on my phone using Google maps. While driving along the route I had gotten stuck with my car on a gravel route, that upon inspection after getting stuck was leading to no main road. Sadly I had trusted Google and decided to enter this road which is where I got my car stuck. Now set in the panic.
Lucky for me there were some people nearby fishing to which I had asked them to help me. A kind gentleman with a pickup truck assisted me in towing my car out of the ditch that I had gotten stuck in.
I then drove all the way back on the main road to get some food. that late in the day I had only found a KFC that was open and after that I even managed to buy some fire wood.
Back at camp I pulled a chair near the campfire to discuss what had happen to me today and why I do not have an off road vehicle. The kfc was great even though it had gotten cold. I then went to bed for the night.
In the morning I thought on my way back home I was passing a few car dealerships. So I went to see an affordable off road vehicle, but when I viewed it I was not happy.

The Jimny is actually a really good 4wd vehicle, more capable off road than the X-trail by far! Basically the Jimny is a 4wd vehicle (low range transfer case, solid axles etc) that you can comfortably go up Sani Pass etc and do more hectic roads and trails, the X-trail is an AWD "soft roader" good for normal dirt roads to campsites etc. there is a good South African UA-cam channel (Roam Overlanding) that had a Jimny kitted out for overlanding and solo camping etc. He highlights the pro's and con's throughout his travels and ownership.

@@SumeranGovender Jimny, quite niche, has a dedicated fan base.. but if you going to do the same content then a SUV would be better.. budgets.. yep I so want an FJ Cruiser but my budget says nooooooo 🤣

Perhaps consider carefully what you intend to do going forward. You may just need a good DC bakkie with decent ground height. I do similar stuff as you, 4 x 4 was out of my budget so i looked and found a low mileage 2016 Navara 4x2. Works perfect for all my camping stuff.

Another option to consider, since you still require a daily driver (that is fuel efficient for work) , you could keep the polo and save a bit of cash and buy a mid 2000s 4x4 with decent mileage. That way even if it breaks you're not stranded. This will also allow you get something a little bigger than a jimny.

Don't lose hope on Google maps buddy. It does get things wrong from time to time but it usually gets it right more often than not. Lots of places I would not have been able to go to without it, places that were new to me. It's not perfect but hey it's technology after all not a person😅😅

Google maps don't work in Midmar dam. Follow the roads that are clear and use the dam as a guide as roads in and out are alongside the dam.
