It was my pleasure to speak in front of the council on behalf of this amazing project. I was honestly surprised with councilwoman Winder Newton put forth the motion. I was glad I was able to hold my facial expression of shock. Now that we have this endorsement I believe we have a path forward. Up next is the Mayor of Salt Lake City. We need people to write, email, and call her office to get this plan moving.

she mentioned it in her state of the city speech. how has she not come out in support of it already...

@@bibidi2568 Not sure, but we need a public endorsement like the SLCO Council did in this video. Once the Mayor is on board I have a feeling we will see more and more entities begin to support. The Salt Lake City Council will swiftly follow her lead. Time to get commenting and calling her office.

Huge congrats to @CSLenhart and our friends over the mountains at Via Rio Grande! This is an incredible step forward in putting the plan on the map with Utah legislators as well as city, county, and state leadership!
Greater Denver Transit enthusiastically supports the Rio Grande Plan which promises real mobility and quality of life benefits, not just for Salt Lake City, but the whole region. We are thrilled to see lessons-learned from our FasTracks project being already incorporated in the design - and that is to preserve and reinforce through track solutions that promise higher capacity, convenience, and reliability for riders!

@greaterdenvertransit Thank you! None of this would be happening if Denver hadn't set the bar so high with the Union Station redevelopment.

If Salt Lake City is able to make this happen, they will set an example for cities all over the country for how to transform through forward-thinking transportation infrastructure and land use. SHOW THEM HOW IT'S DONE.

It would be a good idea to have high level platforms to allow for upgraded trains in the future. You could do as Brightline have done in Florida, and have the high and low level platforms end-to-end.
Getting an extension of Brightline West from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City in time for the Olympics would be great in combination with this.

thats good news with the 2034 Olympics coming we need this built and we need it done now. Salt Lake needs to show they have the best transportation network in the world. Can you do that if Central Station sits in the middle of an abandoned railyard? NO, can you do that if you have backups at 36 signal crossings one of them caused collisions? NO, can you do that if bums sleep in the parks and urinate on the walls of buildings? NO, and can you do that if every building downtown is abandoned? NO! we need this built and Salt Lake needs to welcome the world with a grand train station not some rundown shack in an abandoned railyard. If Front Runner wants to expand they need to move all trains to Rio Grande and close Central that place is a mess all busses need to move back to the 5th west bus depot and it needs to be connected to Rio Grande underground. finally the tracks at Grant Interlocking need to be returned to their original alinements that way trains do not clog crossings or idol downtown. all trains need to bypass downtown trains going to Colton or Denver need to go to Roper Yard and all trains going to Ogden or to Pocatello need to go to Warm Springs and all containers and west bounds need to go to Terminal this way we will keep the trains out of the core and Amtrak and Front Runner can return to Rio Grande no more going into Central or parking in abandoned railyards. Here is how we do this. Phase 1 which is underway Demolish all quake buildings and upgrade the Temple and Rio Grande. Phase 2. Demolish the viaducts in sections so the train box can be built. Phase 3 build the train box and move the Blue line into the trench and connect it to the new downtown loop. and Phase 4 move the trains into the trench and demolish the North Temple Railyard. Clocks ticking we need to do it right The Salt Lake Committee under Romney made a mistake they turned the west side into a slum we need to fix it and we need to do it right and return trains to Rio Grande.

Please please please let this plan become reality. sure the proposely to tear down the complex would be a tough stroke but if it's quickly provide a means to relocate to an ideal spot i think this project will revitalize this city and it's local comunities. Please if you'll haven't already done so please review Christian Lenhart's comments on grading to reduce the need for additional bridges that would only further isolate the west side of the city from central and east.

There will be so much more property tax coming from this solution that nearly any cost still makes it viable.

Complete with shout out at the end! Nice! This needs to be done yesterday if not sooner. In the very near term, geologically speaking, the West Coast as we know it today will disappear due to seismic activity. The geologic record is very clear. The survivors will need a place to resettle and the western metro areas are prime for an influx.
