SO - let's try a '92 track from #testament from their album #theritual with #alexskolnick. Such a great album and a mean riff. I still to this day think that Louie Clemente was Testament's best drummer. Maybe I am a little biased because I stopped listening to them right after The Ritual, although Low wasn't too bad with Tempesta on the drums. But you totally nailed the vibe Louie was puttin out and I loved this cover. I have a Testament song in my "TO DO" list and I seem to be following in your coat tails on similar bands I am covering as well. So maybe a Testament one will be up in the upcoming months. Well, I thought this WAS Tempesta on the track! So, I can put down my Testament fan card LOL! Nah, whoever the hell it was just nailed this to me. I was gonna do Low and probably still will but I've liked this tune I was in my teens. There's nothing complicated at all and that's becoming my new calling card. But, there's an energy that I'm trying to replicate and a mix that I want to hit. Hope your weekend is royally kick ass B!

That comment is the absolute f*cking shit bro. But man, I'm the one who is thanking you and that'll never change. My middle aged ass is just damn thankful to have a place to go and put out things that hopefully entertain. And at this point, I'm getting more and more comfortable with trying to be the drummer I grew up wanting to be. It's not splashes and stacks and endless fills. It's creatively used licks here and there, a big pile of sawdust and breaking things because I care. Goal being to maybe get a few ppl here and there interested in the simplicity of being solid but not just being in the background - aiming to stand out within the framework of the music and implementing some style that's been developed.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm still waiting for the whole grow up thing myself LOL!!! I've totally quit trying to keep up with the Joneses on Instagram / Tik Tok / here. I couldn't do it real well anyway in terms of these crazy patterns, fills, stacks, etc. But I am hoping my little corner gets amped seeing a middle aged dude try to play like the players that mattered to him (me). Dudes like Tempesta, Lee, Kinney, Mr. Paul, a number of the later glam rock dudes, Aldridge, etc. Typed all that hoping there is some blend of all those guys in some small way. Or - better to say - I hope folks can see the influences. I watch a guy like Shannon Larkin and that may be what I appreciate most. He took all these guys I loved and made it into his own thing (and he's another major influence)
@@TreyBDrums Dude, tell me about it! I got so tired of everything related to social media in general that I basically just stopped caring about producing and posting videos. I only do UA-cam now and just because I like it, I just don't care anymore about followers, likes, and all that bullshit.
Ironically, since I stopped posting crap on those platforms, I started to get better and bigger gigs. Just this year, I got to open the show for Stone Temple Pilots in Chile (april 27th, and yeah, I got to meet and talk to Dean, Robert, Eric and Jeff), I got invited to play in a big venue in Paraguay (August) and recently I also opened the show for Candlebox, with the extra of having Kevin fucking Martin singing a song with us!
I like watching other drummers here in YT, and you're one of my favorites. You have it all, but specially, you have a lot of musicality in the way you play and that's what I like the most about your playing. Keep it up bro! I am pretty sure that you have become a big influence in many of the people that watch your videos.

This has been a very "mail it in" year for me dude. I just haven't been happy with hardly anything I've done for long. I've been beyond happy people watch but it's just felt like a funk most of the year. Back hurts more, work hours are longer (and have been), I really dislike video edting LOL, all basic "you're lucky as hell" problems. But problems nonetheless when - as you will understand more than most - that inner satisfaction with knowing a challenge has been taken down isn't happening. So with all that bullshit being said, crossing 4K was humbling. And I've been on here putting shit out for basically 4 years and change. It took 2 years for me to crack 1K without gimmicks or anything. I always said it will fly on its own if it flew at all. Now I'm totally ready for gimmicks to stop playing for a while 🤣🤣🤣🤣

As for “mail it in”, I totally get it. I map out my entire year based on that. I pick about 70% “easy” songs and 30% challenging songs. I space them out so I can rest a bit between the 20+ minute prog epics. 😅
And as for the lack of gimmicks, it’s part of your appeal. I’m sick and tired of flash-in-the-pan crap, and I hate seeing people eat it up. It’s like watching people gorge themselves on McDonald’s while we’re over here cooking with real ingredients 🤣

Sweet! Played to this jamming along with Testament's "Live In London" DVD the other week. Pretty high energy track; if there's any songs off the "Low" album you haven't already done I'd love to see your play-along. John Tempesta is a machine, as was Louie Clemente back in the day.

Albums from them feel the same to me my friend! It was a toss up between this tune and Low. They're separated by a bit but both take me back to that time in the 90s where it just seemed like every damn time we turned around there was another great band or great album and the variety of genres has never been matched for me since. I'm not at all saying music today sucks or anything like that. It doesn't to me. But the creativity and artistry of that time was just bountiful. Fun times my friend!

Oh shit! Didn't really think of David Fincher. That's a good parallel dude! I was listening to Tim Skold a few months ago and kind of examined his set up and thought about trying that but I don't have enough hair to take the guard off on the back. On this tune, this was just fun to do. Nice balance to rock and a tune with that underbelly and snarl to it 🤘🤘🤘🤘

OOH! OK, so the kick is a new thing I've been doing for the last month while I haven't put out anything LOL! I've got a sample and then there's I've got the Sennheiser E something in the kick and the beta on the outside head. So I tuned the front head for the first time in forever and I overshot my mark leaving it with a vibration I'd never really thought about. So I took......I guess like a sinewave maybe? Anyways, took this clip at around 50hz and put it into the sample. Kind of tucked it under the typical sample in Slate. I'll back off of it moving forward but this had enough open space I just wanted to feel that bottom end. And that's a frequency a drum just ain't gonna get on its own so it got super fun HAHA!!!!

@@TreyBDrums thought there was a sample in there somewhere! It sounds like a great repair to the kick drum sound. I hate when my tuning is off, or i have to tweak something, or I get mic problem on a great take! Been there to many times on my UA-cam videos! I’m blessed with a very steady subscriber growth … I’ve been really at this since the fall of 2017 when I had 100 subs … since then I’m at 8K this week … no fanfare, just drummers that dig my crazy music choices. I’m even blessed that some seasons pros (like you) watching and commenting on my drumming … it’s crazy. This UA-cam thing works for my lifestyle of loving to be home with my wife of 40 years on the weekends! Keep doing what you do my brother! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

@@TreyBDrums Here in the Moscow Region, where I live, it is now -12 C. This is normal, if not for the wind. The wind increases the temperature to about -20 C.
My wife and I take care of street kittens. We built a small warm house for them, we feed them, so for now everything is fine there. It’s a pity for them, they’re just little ones.
