IT WAS SUCH A POWERFUL SCENE. and troy's right you really feel that tension build when ellie pushes joel. cause you see where ellie's coming from. its the constant ongoing relationship that you build with an individual once you've spent so much time with one another. joel is one of the reasons ellie keeps fighting and the same goes for joel.....................
In the shootout Ellie has with David's men in the mall in the DLC, you can almost feel the desperation in Ellie. She was facing fearful odds yet she kept fighting because she was going to defend Joel to the last breath in her body.
The most beautiful storytelling is the prologue of the game. In literally 15 minutes time they made you care enough about Joel and Sarah to get choked up if not cry because you feel the pain. That is powerful and unmatched in any piece of media ever created.

The Ranch scene was the single greatest voice acting scene in video game history. This was honestly the moment I fell in love with Ellie's character, Ashley Johnson and Troy. It was beautifully done you could have hundreds of takes with this scene and it might not ever be as good again.

And I'll be the first to say they're the greatest duo ever put together and the last of us is without a doubt the greatest video ever.

It’s weird, normally voice actors resemble and sound like their characters even when they’re not trying. Troy doesn’t look or sound like Joel much. But, Ashley definitely resembles and sounds like Ellie.
I bought the game without knowing anything more than it was post-apocalyptic, made by Naughty Dog and had reviews that hyped it so high that I never thought the game would redeem those scores. I knew nothing of the story or the characters. Played from about 10 in the afternoon until I finished it at about 3 in the morning ... and then I started a new game an hour later. One of my most favourite gaming experiences ever; on par and in some ways better than Super Mario 64, Resident Evil 4, Half Life 2 and Shadow of the Colossus.
This scene always fascinated me, yes it shows Ellies willingness to stand up for herself and to possibly create conflict/a change of heart in Joel but interestingly this mirrors what Tess did to Joel just before she sacrifices herself for Ellie and Joel, maybe Ellie has processed this on a subconscious level and when someone is about to leave, like Tess was when she knew she had little choice, perhaps Ellie had this same feeling, its a show of strength but also of bonding ; pushing someone away in order to draw them in closer. Man, I love this game !
All the best movie moments end up being in part a result of the actors alterations. No surprise that one of the most emotionally impactful scenes in the game was the same way. This whole game is just nuts
