If it were to play out like it did in the comics where even Sentinal isn't immune to cosmic rust, iron hide would make sentinel drop the cannon and use it against him. If it were to play out like the film were Sentinal is immune to cosmic rust then iron hide to make sentinel drop the cannon, then possibly try to keep him away from it. He would keep sentinel busy while bumblebee would take the rust cannon (if he can pick it up) and give it to optimus when he returns to store it in his trailer for safe keeping.
