    Very nice. I almost bought one of these tools this past Saturday. I guess I will buy it soon as my disability check comes in.

    Great for narrow workpieces. How would the jig be used for a dado cut in a cupboard side panel that is two feet wide?

      It is a great package. Saves lots of time and scary accurate. The dovetail clamps are extremely useful in the shop as well. They are very versatile as long as you have a 14 degree 1/2 inch dovetail bit. Make some stuff and have some fun friend. Micro-jig is one of the most innovative company's out there these days as far as woodworking products go and they offer up much more safety and accuracy for your projects.

    So, is there a trick to getting the correct setting for material thickness? I either get it too tight or too loose. After many trial and errors, finally got a great fit. It should be a bit easier than this. At least I had hoped.

    I've been using the original jig w/o the setup gauge and it works great. I think the setup gauge adds confusion and wastes money. Watch older vids and it gets easier to understand.

      John, if used properly, the Setup Gauge does add a level of accuracy and consistency, but the Dado Stop was out for a full year before the setup gauge, so we all know it works.
      I still set mine up "manually" when using dado blades.

    BTW I think this video is in error. If you set leg 3 the way described you will be out 1 kerf. You need to place the kerf cutout against a leg 3 an fit the material between those two.

    I bought one of these. I don't know what I've done wrong but I can't get it dialed in. I've tried over and over and over again each time the dado is too big. It's quite frustrating to say the least.

      It is confusing and frankly I don't use it enough currently to be an expert. What I can say is that once you figure it out it's honestly flawless. I hope you kept at it and got it to work for you.

    So, every time you change blades you need a new setup gauge?

    • @harrydavis6903
      @harrydavis6903 5 років тому

      Yes, and it will be a permanent reference for each blade that you have. I own this setup.

    • @JK-jl1bf
      @JK-jl1bf 3 роки тому

      It would appear so. How much can each one of these cost for each blade is my question. Can a talented woodworker fashion one from wood? I can see why not. It’s a template.

      Not particualrly. The Dado Stop allows you to get a good fit the first time without needing to make several test cuts and adjustments.
      They continue to sell quite well, so many other people have seen the value.

    This video is misleading the limitations of the jig. It only works on narrow dados.

      It can at first, but it is quick once you do it a couple times.
      Also, we created out Setup Gauge to shorten the set up and make it more consistent. You can see that here: ua-cam.com/video/a6SMJlDTGjY/v-deo.html

    This is great for wasting time on one cut.

    • @Microjig
      @Microjig  2 роки тому

      Actually, it saves time when making one or two half-laps. If you need to make a lot of them, and have a dado set, then taking the time to setup the dado stack, make a test cut, and reset the stack until the fit is good may be faster.

    Seriously I don't understand why the Microjig company charges so much for molded plastic.
    I can make this with some scrap wood for nothing. Unfuckingbelieveable.

    • @nperson
      @nperson 5 років тому +5

      The setup gauge baffles me. Unless it has other functions that this video does not go into, a accurately cut scrap of wood would do the job. Also, why design the jig so that it can only be clamped to the fence using the Microjig clamp.

    • @harrydavis6903
      @harrydavis6903 5 років тому

      If it is just molded plastic why not just make one and don`t be a biatch about it. Remember when your mamma told you that if you did not have anything nice to say, keep the trap shut.

      @@harrydavis6903 I ended up making a duplicate to the Dado stop out of wood. Took about 45 minutes and works very well. Some of the fun of woodworking is making things to make things. Money should be going to buy wood and not plastic
