There's so many good Theodor Kittelsen paintings that it was hard to pick which ones to include in the video :P This is my first video essay, so I'm glad people like it. Hope you'll stick around, I have many more planned!
There's another side to Kittelsen though: The mischief! He would have fit right in as an underground comic artist. He wrote lot of grotesque and funny one-panel gags with various anthropomorphic animals. And he wasn't above poking fun at himself, he has a famous self-portrait where he lies completely knocked out in a hammock while a pig is rooting through his painting supplies.
I was just listening to BURZUM. I saw a painting on it. Later, I heard a podcast about swedish literature. I feel like the art of scandinavia is just great. I"ll learn more about it. It is always interesting.
Just stumbled upon his artwork, and I must say I was instantly captivated by his work. His and John Bauers and this great video of yours just made me appreciate them even more :)
Thanks for introducing me to John Bauers! Some of his paintings seem familiar to me, so I'm sure I've been somewhat exposed to him, but I'm not really all that familiar with his work. Glad you liked the video :D
Wonderful! Thank you for this introduction to a wonderful artist I'd never heard of. While I don't have your Norwegian heritage to draw on, the art reminds me of the Russian Folk Tales that I read, over and over again, during my childhood. Good luck too with your own work.
Thanks for this introduction, I'll definitely be looking up Kittelsen now. It reminds of art from my childhood as well.

There are actually several metal bands that use Kittelsen's art for their album covers, because it fits so well, and they're in the public domain.
excellent. and i like the personal touch of his influence..thanks.
♡♡♡ THANK YOU
This is amazing, and beautifully presented/commented ♡

I recently discovered Theodore Kittelsen and I would say he is one of my favorite painters of all time now

The black death was called Pesta. Also in Kittelsens paintings and sketches with a beautiful pencil.

He was King on Norwegian art :D
Pesta i trappen still scares me.
A great video to introduce such a wondrous painter. Btw are you from western Norway?
Thanks!
You've got a good ear. Bergen, to be specific.
