We headed to one of the most famous and possibly the best Nasi Kandar restaurants in Malaysia for our first time trying Nasi Kandar with a local in Kuala Lumpur. Nasi Kandar Pelita is a very popular place with the locals to grab lunch and since it was approved and recommended by our Malaysian friend, we couldn't resist heading here for some wonderful Malay - Indian style Mamak food. This has got to be some of the best Malaysian food we have tried so far...

@@sitifatimahbyct1327 Negara barbaric memang begitu. Emosi di tempat yang tak sepatutnya. Itu yang tengok bola pun boleh jadi massacre. Dulu kini selamanya tak mampu jadi rasional.
Biasa ar diorang..Their bad habits tak boleh nak avoid. Its in their blood.Always seeking attention from people around the world (suka nasi tambah, ajinomoto, curi perhatian😅🤭). Nak maki, nak sound, nak marah kesian pulak...Sabar je la ye.
I hope you can reply to my comment and would like to treat you with a better restaurant.
There are much better and cheaper Nasi Kandar in the Klang Valley area. Nasi Kandar Pelita is definitely not one of them. Their seafood is also not fresh, sometimes it is leftovers from the day before. I would recommend the following eateries:
1. Nasi Lemak Royale, Ayer 8, Putrajaya
2. Sithique Nasi Kandar, Jalan TAR, KL
3. Nasi Kandar Melayu, Setiawangsa
4. Sadam Nasi Kandar, Segambut
5. Mahbub Restaurant, Bangsar
6. Nasi Kandar Basikal, Puncak Jalil
Thanks so much for the recommendations. You can always message us on FB or insta :)
Pelita ok.. But in KL, I prefer Restoran Kudu at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman for Nasi Kandar..
A bit of correction:
Local avoid prawn, crab, squid on such place not because it is not fresh. It is still good, more or less like you get from frozen seafood quality.
Most of the time we avoid it because of the PRICE. It is way too expensive compare to the "freshness" quality. Who want a RM40+ for a plain white rice and a single humongous squid? I wil rather eat 40 roti canais with that price.
This is the more precise reason.
If you have the money.. why not. The curry blend of seafood is another level of taste! Splendid. RM40 for seafood curry is cheap compared RM300 in Europe per plate. KL is haven.
Those seafood usually have funny taste because they have been sitting there for a long time
Don’t think the local guide is very good. His understanding and knowledges questionable
@@flahmadzaki2172
Once in a blue moon, yes, we would eat that. But we as local, we prefer to eat lot of food rather than expensive food 😆
@Siew Yong Li
Depend on timing and restaurant/franchise. Most of the time, I got a good one, but I myself rarely eat those thing because of the price. Crab maybe spoil fast. Squid will get chewy but still good on taste. Prawn retain the taste.
It is not small chicken. It is probably quails or Burung Puyuh.
That dude really don't know his food 😂
00:40 that is a bird actually, a non flying type of bird. we call it "burung puyuh", or in English you call it "quail". it's not a baby chicken 😅. Quail meat are rarely used in any chinese dish, except for their egg. (the small egg - quail egg) which is more commonly known in any dish around south east Asia. I guess the guy never eat quail meat before, but it is common dish in Malay cooking.
Olivia should ask for "half rice" when eating nasi campur / nasi kandar 😅
Olivia, u can ask for less rice when u order. just say "nasi separuh" (half portion of rice)
oh my ! call himself a local doesn't he know PELITA is a mamak ( Indian muslim) restaurant?
What's your favourite Nasi Kandar?

I think you befriend a wrong Malaysian. Pelita is not a bad place but if you want better Nasi kandar in KL, you should go to Kudu Abdul, Yaseem or Ibramsha. They're all more authentic and similar to Penang style nasi kandar and all located in the same street, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
Olivia is a "food tester" and Mario is a "food eating machine"...🤘🤘🤘have a nice day guys.. 😁😁😁
i scared when seeing mario's plate 😱
Your tour guide doesn't know his stuff. That small bird is Puyuh (Quail)
Dont think NK Pelita appreciates when you criticize that their seafood is not too freshed. They cook every hour due to high traffic demand. Its fresh. Its definitely not yesterday's leftovers.
Pelita restaurant is really pricey and especially if you eat seafood like prawn, crabs and squids @ cuttlefish!!!😄🤷
You should go "forest research institue malaysia" (FRIM) at kepong after this ..best jungle place..you dont regret after go this place...🥰
🙌🏻👍🏻
Always support u guyss!.. Respect to brother Joseph 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
thanks man!
Restaurant kudu bin abdul. Try it.
Sedap, the best in town 👍
@@FitriRashid i never like pelita. Expensive and not so nice food.
if you like potato dishes we have a few thats good, bergedil , kuih keria to name a few.. karipap is like a curry pastry with potato curry.
For me and my friends pelita is the least favourite… also pelita isn’t the best … there’s alot more of them is much better
Finally you tasted nasi kandar. And I was just waiting when you and Olivia will do it! Good job bro Joseph, you are the man!
Thanks Jimmy!
@travelsontoast biasanya kami menggunakan tangan untuk menikmatinya.. 😅😅
Nasi kandar is Indian Muslim style mix rice. We also have salad but we call ulam and we eat with sambal belacan, budu, tempoyak and cencaluk.
All I wanna say is, I love you guys journey and adventure here in Malaysia. Pls pls plsss stay a little longer 👍🏻
glad you like the videos, we will be going back and forth between countries
Nasi kandar mainly very popular at north malaysia, back then we just eat nasi kandar at Penang, Perak, Kedah or Perlis.
Normally its made from Indian muslim or we called mamak, but now days we can taste nasi kandar in Malay version because their is a difference between Malay curry and mamak curry, malaysian can spot it very quickly
But mamak curry and Indian curry quite similar
Basic raw vege for nasi kandar its was green chilies and lady finger
Restaurant pelita is not mamak restaurant its was a Indian restaurant, we malaysian know price there quite pricey
I will get some link to you to having really
nasi kandar mamak
Nasi kandar Malay
In Km
I will rekomen to you to you the best dish normally we eat
1. Ask for KUAH BANJIR, means they will mix at lease 3 to 7 type of curry for the gravy
2. Side dish must be, salted duck egg, green chilies and boils lady finger and boil chicken egg. So every nasi kandar must have these basic ingredients in every nasi kandar.
3, normally we add fried chicken or other fried dish like fish or meat
4. Beside fried chicken, ayam masak merah ( spicy chicken with red chilies), ayam kicap ( chicken with soy sauce ), ayam madu ( chicken with honey ) , ayam bawang ( chicken with onion)
And last chicken curry
5. Daging masak hitam ( beef work black soy sauce ) this is the best
6. Other type of curry, chicken, seafood and lamb even lamb shank - just beware when you having seafood and lamb shank because its quite pricy - its can be rm100 in one plate
That why basically we having chicken or beef

Thanks for all this information and help :)
Mario, if u like potatoes u must try local favorite potatoes dish called 'begedil'...You can get it at some Malay n mamak restaurant, Nasi Lemak Wanjo at Kampung Baru sell it
Thanks for the tip! Looking forward to try
Honestly.. RM76 is quite pricy. But Malaysian will happy and never regret to pay it for their guest.
Agreed
Its stated in english and Malay. And price tag has been displayed. Its not about pricey. If feels pricey. Then dont eat out. Cook at home. Buy your own things and cook. See how much will cost you man 😂 will cost you more then that for 3 person.
@@amazingsunset9446 good good. Be greedy. Allah always forgives. 😂😂😂😂😂itu lah style melayu...
Nasi Kandar originates from Penang. The curries are a mix of Malay and Indian flavours as the Mamaks who sell Nasi Kandars are Indian Muslims. If you have tasted Indian curries (banana leaf restaurants), you would notice it is different from Malay curries (found in warungs in Kampung Baru) and the Nasi Kandar is like a marriage of both. If you happen to go to Chinese restaurants, try the Chinese style curries, they taste different too.
Thanks for the info 👍
Malay authentic salads called rojak..kerabu..ulam..pecal..acar timun nenas.. etc only can be found in Malay food stalls and restaurants..
Nasi kandar are synonymous with mamak or Indian Muslim. Pelita is not Indian Muslim owned. It is a Hindu or Indian restaurant selling Indian Muslim food.
R u sure? the owner r not Muslim..? then they need to have halal certs b4 org islam can go eat there...
@@lizashaha6581 how to test if its indian or indian muslim simple,go there n ask for beef..i dont eat at mamak like 10 years already now bcoz its dirty when i look into their kitchen n toilet..n when i look at the worker i always hv doubt in my heart whether theyre muslim or not coz i once see worker hv tatoo in their arm..and i once suffer worst food poisoning ever in my life bcoz of mamak food,if im cravin for nasi kandar i will find malay nasi kandar..sum of them taste way more better than mamak n da most importnce its 100% halal n its 100% local 😊
indian Muslim usually close their shop during Friday prayer & hari raya
@@zambriabdrazak5709 My father used to dabble in mamak's restaurant as a partner and he always got miffed when i ignored his warning not to eat their food exactly for your reasons 🤣 And the leftover claim as stated in this video is also not too farfetched in mamak business in general, as per my father's own experience, just that maybe it doesn't apply to the restaurant featured here.
@@shinachikudidnthappen..mov9196 bout a month ago my wife "tapaw" me home mamak nasik kandar from one of mamak chain which i dont wanna name it here,12 pm at dat time bcoz she doent hv any other choices,it was sunday n other nearby restaurant were closed dat day,she know dat i dont like mamak food but just she doesnt hd choices dat day,she was fastin n im sick..so i tell her to leave it at kicthen table i will eat later when im hungry..the time past by n it was 2pm,feelin little bit hungry..i opened it n it already smell funny then it goes straight to the bin..dats the place it should be.😄dats explain a lot bout the letfover not too farfetched
Malay got their own salad called 'jelatah', typically comprises of pineapple, cucumber, sweet turnip, chili & onion. Not much stalls selling it. Usually they serve it with biriyani during wedding feast.
Fried sweet potato vegetables are less bitter.
no offence, you need a go to hidden gem areas around chowkit area to get good decent nasi kandar. need any guide, drop me a text
yes, agree. there are many better options than going to Pelita. i personally will not bring them to Pelita too. it's like taking them to a fast food chain. but each to their own.
@@sunchildtine well said. Point of the matter is ...go where the locals go
0:48 actually that 'baby chicken' is quail.... Maybe joseph dont know....
its probably a quail not a baby chicken lol
Baby chicken or quail?
Olivia should ask for 'nasi separuh' next time (half portion of rice), so you can finish your meal.
Hey guys hope your good we’re not far away maybe see you around 😃
Nasi Kandar originated from Penang. You guys should go try it there too :)
Cruel. I am drooling.
i liked it at 999, its now 1k B)
i like your channel dont forget to melaka back , i will bring you explore whole of melaka
Feeling hungry look you'll eating during thy raining season...😋😋😋😋
I like potatoes too

In Malaysia, we are less into salad and more into our original ULAM..
It's pretty pricey.... Oh, it's Pelita. No wonder huhu
I think many of comments will be , Mamak = Indian Muslim , Malay = Malay Muslim.. and sometimes the cuisine/food/drinks will seat-in-between these 2 races/cultures.
my best sis & my best bro thank you for your huge respect against cpec countries lot of love from your cousin viki 💙
the price is expensive, average RM25 per person for a nasi kandar + a drink. totally not worth it
berbaloi kot.. macam2 diorang pilih.. penuh pinggan
Thats not baby chicken, its a quails..
the "aiya"🤣
I actually prefer NZ Curry House over Pelita when it comes to Nasi Kandar and even their roti.
Agree that
@@suhanjayalian5044 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

The closed minded and ignorant Indon is here
u must try the real traditional malay food.. nasi lemak, nasi dagang, nasi kerabu, laksa penang, laksam, mee celup, nasi minyak, nasi hujan panas.. nasi kandar is just popular food but not original.. its too modern for me😄
I think nasi Kandar Hameediah is more delicious because it's owned by Indian Muslim or Mamak.
PELITA is owned by Hindu Indian. That's why it's not as delicious as Indian Muslim or Mamak Nasi Kandar.
Yum 😋
Yay first
Omg my fav pelita nasi kandar. Next to W hotel. Enjoy guys 😄
So, the locals avoid seafood in Nasi kandar.
I will have to go back to that Indian shop in Brickfield to complain, the one under the monorail.
He ripped me off in 2019!
Great video guys really enjoy your content me and my wife just arrived KL this week on our nomad tour and defo gonna try this .Also 3 month visa is a no brainer .
Hahh lots of places to go with that 3 months visas with ample time to rest too 😄 Welcome to Malaysia! 🇲🇾

That small chicken is quail. And you get the whole bird.
Remarkable videos as always. However, you guys got fat I noticed it since I have not seen you for like over a month.
makan kat sitihque atau saddam
Wow
Guys, you are going to have a hard time leaving Malaysia with all the great food and all.. haha
Do you know that we have a restaurant that sells RM1.70 per dish and per drink...
Literally everything in this restaurant with a price tag of RM1.70. Try to convert that ha ha ha...😂
If both of you are interested, I'll be glad to take you there... 😋
That sounds like our kind of place! Message us on FB or insta :)
0:37 this is tottaly not true! As a local malay i dont think our food is not fresh and on our country we are make sure all of our food is halal ,it is mean safe and good to eat.
In Malay its called peria-bitter gourd.
Mario never let go the potato 😂
The thing about the general term 'Curry' when non-Malaysian refers to are actually consist of varieties here in Malaysia. Malays have theirs, so does Indians and Chinese too. But it all boils down too the added ingredients when making it. Needless to say, even locals sometimes can't distinguish which is which :) But the most important thing is, all of them taste sooooo goood 😀
Kebanyakan makanan Malasia dipengaruhi budaya Asing termasuk budaya lokal asli Indonesia 🥰🇮🇩
@@suhanjayalian5044 u memang Minta video tentang Malaysia Kan. Selalu ada dan mengclaim di mana2 😅
Balik ke negara asal mana nak cari nasi kandar...
Pelita over rated
You guys should try Banana Leaf!
Love your journeys, have a good ones 🙏🏻
The little bird is called 'burung puyuh' taste similar to a chicken of course but usually the meat is tougher
Kan... The local guide has limited knowledge on mamak food 😅
Yoi have to try Saddam Nasi Kandar or Kudu Nasi Kandar.
I think the person who brought you is not a 'true nasi kandar lover'.. Nasi kandar Pelita is just a normal Mamak stall.. And it's not a real nasi kandar.. There are much more 'real nasi kandar' especially originated from Penang..! 😁
kudu
Actually pelita is still good for me.ya there is many other better than this, but it is good for beginner 😊
not like they can go to Penang immediately now for Penang's nasi kandar 😂 trying some in KL/Selangor for an experience is good also
Pelita is one of the bestselling nasi landers out of Penang which made them go worldwide, there's branches in India as well. I think Pelita's fame is only surpassed by Nasi Kandar Kayu.
Thank you joseph.
Try food for those who live alone (single)...Nasik Bujang...Cheap
In North side we call asam ko not asam boy😂😂
I thought asam girl
Nasi lemak is a original malay dish serve with bananan leaf..sambal..peanut..boiled egg and anchovice.....Salad normaly at malay rest..the call nasi ulam..there are rest in my place the call "nasi ulam cikgu" you can search in youtube...Mamak is India muslim..not india hindu..but now not rest mamak are from orginal from india muslim..Mamak rest are little bit expensive than a malay rest..exspecially when you take..beef..lamb or squid..
Try find Malay food 'Bubur Lambuk' (it a rice porridge with huge flavor). If you can find 'Lemang' (sticky rice in Bamboo) with Rendang Daging, you're lucky to taste it.
NASI KANDAR SEDAP 😋😋😋
The small bird/chicken is not a chicken.. its a quail.. or in Malay they called it puyuh..
I'm doa to Allah,for our Brother's Joseph,to travel sukses...
wow, looks so good
Raw salad doesn't go well with curry/think so
The best nasi kandar obviously in Kedah, its the mother off all nasi kandar😁
I just realized, mario has beautiful eyes.
I prefer nasi kandar zainul near the A & w building or near amcorp mall at PJ. Anyone tried it? The curry has an really spicy taste compare to pelita where curry is a bit diluted and sweet
Bitter melon n Mamak is Indian Muslim n Nasi Kandar is Mamak
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video n for showing your tasting nasi kandar in KL.
thanks for watching!
