- Introducing my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I bought for $500 , This is in my opinion the best bang for your buck off road rig for off road and over land.
I’ve said this for so long, best budget Jeep ever and capable as all heck, you can’t beat v8 power with coil springs on all 4 corners and straight axles.. best upgrade is the 242 or 231 transfer case and RUN IT!
Yeah, I've only had 2 ZJ's with the quadra-junk transfer cases, I'll only buy one with the selec-trac transfer case now..
Is a 4.0l enough or only 5.2 v8 is for go?
My zj came with a fuel tank skid plate as well! That was a huge plus for me
I picked up an orvis edition ZJ for 600 with a 5.2, only had 130k now it’s got a stinger front end and it’s lifted 3.5 inches

I got a ZJ brother, yeah I need to redo my transmission. I bought mine for 400 I love it I’ve had BMWs all kinds of exotic cars and this is my favorite one out of all of them.
I want to make my transmission solid and rebuild my engine
Yeah dude the ZJ is a great budget off road option ! the engines last a long time for sure.
You only need these upgrades left, HD fan clutch, better lift either do a Zone off-road 4inch or better Iron rock off-road , slip yoke eliminator, regear to 4.56 gears and run 33, black magic brake front pads, currie steering setup, quick disconnect or antirock, 8.8 ford in the rear and dana 30HP in front with chromoly axles, adjustable control arms with Johnny joints or similar, longer brake hoses, new drive shaft at rear, mountain vista transfer case shift linkage and then your all good to go.
The Jeep is great and we are still beating on it , off-roading, camping , taking it to the desert to shoot . But we find ourselves not using it to its full potential, considering at some point getting into a 3.4 v6 4 runner . Even thought it’s a IFS front end it should be good enough for what we need.

My 500$ 93 ZJ came with a 5.2 completely stock full time 4 wheel drive everything works, electric seats, door locks.

I have a 95 AWD 5.2L, picked up for $550. Same color. Got a great price on a solid front bumper from Affordable Offroad. Lift is next. Good vid; there's not a lot covering the ZJ.
Nice ZJ, I Was lucky enough to find mine for 1k with a lift (3ish I'm guessing) and 31s so you're definitely right unpopular and I would add under rated capable offroader since XJ's get all the glory. I'm in the south bay area we should go wheeling some day.

**tow package comes with 3.73:1 axle gearing and usually has limited slip in the rear end as well! I always try to buy one that has the factory tow package (I've had 5 or 6 ZJ Grand Cherokees now)!
bought a 5.9 like a year ago with 160,000 miles for $4,200
been VERY reliable, all ive done is oil changes and coolant flush

What's a ZJ? If you don't know what it is you can't afford it.
Thank You for the great content. QUESTION. Can I flat tow behind my motorhome ( 4 wheels on ground) a 96 ZJ with the 249 transfer case? I tested by putting transfer case in neutral and transmission in park and zj moves freely forward and reverse as I push it. Ssme thing happens if transfer case is in neutral and transmission in neutral, I wonder what's safer. Please someone with experience on this reply. I have a trip coming soon and need to know.
For my towing points I'm good. Jeep has a heavy duty winch mount with d rings and it's sandwiched over the unibody frame.. (1996 5.2 V8 with full time 4wd 249 transfer case, automatic transmission)
Bit of an old comment but the only safe way to tow it would be all four wheels off the ground. OR remove front and rear driveshaft and tow it on the wheels.
@@gavinrivera9929from my understanding to tow use the Neutral position on the 249 TC, and put transmission in Park.

Thats not a 94 bro I think yours is a 95 or higher .could tell buy the front bumber only 93s and 94s drop at the grill yours doesnt so that's tells me its a 95 or higher .lmk if im wrong
