I had no idea that Frank Sinatra had a church built for his mother. Or that he had been honorary Mayor of Catherdal City 😮 It was a very beautiful church. I'm very glad that you got to go inside to show us around. Thanks Steve 😊
That's beautiful. Frank did well. A wonderful way to honor his mother. You always have the scoop. I had no idea Frank had been Mayor. Thank you my friend. 🙏🕊️❤️ Your daughter is so pretty!!❤
Steve this Cathedral looks like a Mosaic that you would find in little Italy in the Bronx NY. Sinatra was truly the Chairman of the Board. Sinatra did so much good for humanity ❤❤
What an amazing find! No better heartfelt gift to your mom than a church! Beautiful interior architecture and lighting for the stained glass. Thanks for visiting and sharing with us Steve.💕💕
Hello Steve! A beautiful and interesting church. I was wondering if you had done a video on actress Betty Hutton? The information I read said she was buried in the same cemetery as Frank Sinatra. She was born in Battle Creek, Michigan but lived in my hometown of Lansing when she was little. (Burt Reynolds and Magic Johnson lived in Lansing when they were young as well). Have a great day, my friend. Blessings - Judith 🎭🎤
Hi Judith, I did visit her gravesite a few years ago for my other channel, but I’m planning to visit again and share our story on this channel too. Thanks for the reminder. 😄👍
I never heard this story! I used to run around that church all the time! In fact, my oldest friend went to catechism there. That is so amazing! Such a small world! I had no idea. I used to run up in those mountains, in the cove when I was a kid. It was dangerous, because there were a lot of homeless people, but we would go tracking up in the mountains from time to time. Thank you for another great video! You have just brought back a whole bunch of childhood memories. I love this! And, you know your local when you describe that area as “the cove.” ❤️❤️❤️
Growing up, we did not live near the cove, but we walked over from the original Cathedral city elementary school, after school. I had countless friends that lived in the cove, and once in a while, we would skip the bus and walk home. We did get in trouble for that.🤪 I lived on Vera Drive, near Nellie Coffman Middle school.
Very nice video. Thanks Steve. I know someday with all your millions you will build. A fast food restaurant shaped like a video game consul and dedicate it to Jim. It would be a fitting tribute. 😂
Hi Steve... awesome vlog....the church is beautiful...very different than a regular church we have ....love the stained glass windows and the cross ...all the angles of the church makes it very interesting ....thanks for vlogging the church ....take care...... Deborah 🇨🇦
What a beautiful church. I don't think anyone knows about this being built for Frank's mother. It's nice to know about it. Thank you for making it possible for us to go inside and see it. You and Jim take care.
A view from the UK. Stevie, you are smack bang in the middle of mine and Lindy's interest, that is social - including religious and architectural - history. From the Cathedrals of the 10th to the 12th century, to the contemporary religious architecture of today. As and objective atheist i can look on religion dispassionately. This church is one of the finest contemporary designs i have seen, the stained glass windows are just stunning. I can understand people going to a service just to sit in it, we would. Just beautiful. There is many examples of contemporary churches throughout the world - Barcelona, Coventry cathedral here in the UK rebuilt after it was flattened by German bombing in WW2. But this rings all my bells, hell you even get good weather even in the winter to view it.
Hi Robert, thank you for sharing that with us. I’m like you, I’m not religious, but I can appreciate churches for their architecture, art and history. Unfortunately, we had one of our rare gray and cloudy days on this trip. 😇👍
That is where i used to go to church since 1995, before they remodeled the outside and tirn down all the old houses that used to be there it was a bit sketchy, you should checkout the sacred heart church on portola in palm desert, it is stunning architecture too.
Such a beautiful sanctuary! My dad was raised Catholic and my mother was raised Baptist. My dad decided to become a Baptist when he married my mother. I'm aware of Catholicism as my dad answered questions about his upbringing in that church. I don't subscribe to mainstream religion. I always say I'm spiritual not religious. My life and my choice. 😊
Enjoyed, In the old days church's could leave there doors unlock, nowadays absolutely not, too many mean people in this world thanks for sharing, How's MASON
I admired the stain glass windows too for the stations of the cross. FYI Understand Trini Lopez who died from Covid a couple of years ago in Palm Springs lived there for 40 years. You might want to ck that out too.
Yes, I have visited Trini Lopez’s house before on my other channel. I will be visiting again on this channel soon. He also has a new exhibit here in downtown Palm Springs that I will be going to in the next couple of days. He was a real fixture here in Palm Springs for decades. 👍
Frank Sinatra was an interesting man and what a voice. No one like him. The two Sinatra bio's by James Kaplan are fascinating and meticulous about Frank. Another fun read is 'Mr. S. My Life With Frank Sinatra' by George Jacobs.
I'm a fan of stained glass too. When remodeling my house I had one room where I didn't bknow what to do about a large window. I wanted privacy so I had an artisan make a stained glass window for me. The room? The bathroom of course. lol
Also in Cathedral City "Casa Yates" the fictional hotel from "Palm Springs Weekend" is just behind the Target. I think today it is a drug rehab facility but can remember back in the 1990's when it was still a motel.
Thanks for the reminder Kenni! I filmed this hotel and a few other locations from the movie quite a few years ago on my other channel. I’ve been meaning to do the same on this channel. Thanks for the reminder. 😄👍
Those of us baptized Catholic and thought the catechism of the Church have solemn respect for the Alter where the Tabernacle is located. The Tabernacle holds the Eucharistic Bread the symbolic host of the Holy Trinity. I think I t is a personal decision for either Catholics or non Catholics to record the inside of churches. But one’s decision can be influenced by limitations imposed on some church and cathedral locations that restrict recordings. I will conclude my comment by sharing the acts Catholics do inside churches. When walking pass the center aisle, pausing & genuflect (kneeling with one knee, performing the sign of the Cross and bowing one’s head), then rise and proceed. When entering a pew, genuflect & sign of the Cross. Also when entering/exiting dipping a finger into the Holy Water and do the sign of the Cross. These are rituals of faith, humility and respect to the Holy Father, Son & Holy Spirit, The Blessed Trinity.
Half way through ~ it hit me... why are you so interested in a church ~ when you/Jim don't even attend a church??? Forgive me if I'm off track here ~ but I'm just trying to put puzzel pieces together...given your previous posts
Hi Terri, I love Art and architecture and history. Especially local Palm Springs area history. You have a good memory. I can appreciate churches for their architecture and history and for the community that they provide for their members. 😇
Catholic Churchs in old time were left open all the time for people to pray but since the atack on Christianity doors are all locked other than Sundays
The lady seemed a bit scared of you. Just saying, she seemed stand offish. I think she was trying to be nice and took the photo with both of you. Regardless it was a good story. All the years I have lived in Palm Springs on a part time basis I never knew of this church only the little church near Liberace's house, the one on Farrell and the one Catholic Church in La Quinta. You are the Huell Howser of Palm Springs. BTW: The Catholic Church on Farrell was originally named St. Theresa Little Flower of the Desert. Lucille Ball's kids attended the Catholic School back in the day when they spent time in the area. The original owners of Las Cansuela's Mexican Restaurant / their kids also went to that school back in the 1970's and 80's. I used to attend mass at that church regularly.
I had no idea that Frank Sinatra had a church built for his mother. Or that he had been honorary Mayor of Catherdal City 😮 It was a very beautiful church. I'm very glad that you got to go inside to show us around. Thanks Steve 😊
There is a documentary "Frank Sinatra's Palm Springs" or something to that effect, that goes from place to place around town, a nicely done film.
Yay! Another home run Steve!
Thanks, Diane 😄👍
This is a beautiful church, thank you for sharing, I love it ❤.
That's beautiful. Frank did well. A wonderful way to honor his mother. You always have the scoop. I had no idea Frank had been Mayor. Thank you my friend. 🙏🕊️❤️

That area down there is just full of surprises. Frank built a church, wow.
I know, right? 😳😄👍
Thanks Steve and family. "Frankly" I didn't know that he was the mayor or that he had a church built. Always learning something!
How interesting! Thanks for sharing how famous personalities quietly did great works for their communities. A warm and fuzzy story! ❤😊

Yes, the stained glass is spectacular! 😄👍

I agree Jon, it is very sad. 🥲 and Mason is doing well. He’s still living down at the beach and loving it. 😎👍
The stained glass is indeed beautiful. And, I didn’t know this story so it was interesting to hear.
I know you don’t like the modern architecture, but I agree, it’s a very interesting part of our desert area history. 👍

Alot of the newer churches are shaped like this. I think they can get more people in the building.
Frank Sinatra was an interesting man and what a voice. No one like him. The two Sinatra bio's by James Kaplan are fascinating and meticulous about Frank. Another fun read is 'Mr. S. My Life With Frank Sinatra' by George Jacobs.

His mother died in 1977 in a plane crash
Yes, I’m planning to share her story in an upcoming video. 😇👍
