      The app is a hoax. They wanted to see how far people would go to use technology to make things convenient for themselves: www.theverge.com/2017/1/31/14455622/adoptly-app-tinder-child-adoption-art-project-reveal
      Adoption isn't about finding a child who the right fit for your family. It's about making sure YOU are the right fit for the CHILD. I don't know what's more disgusting, the concept of this app or the fact that so many people would actually go along with it. Adoption is difficult for a reason. If you're truly serious adopting a child, you would be willing to jump through hoops because you understand that doing so is in the best interest of the CHILD. People are so self-centered and easily swayed.

    I love how calm and well spoken Adrienne was with this topic. She needs more serious convos she might be a better mediator than Loni. She took everyones opinions seriously and explained it calmly. Often times we the viewers see how they get frustrated with one another if they dont agree which is natural. But producers def take a look at adrienne for more serious topics. She wasn't emotional or let any ones questions annoy her. Very well done segment

    I'm on the fence with this one. I agree with Loni, but on the other hand I'm thinking like Jeannie and Tamera. Adrienne did a good job explaining things though.

    • @KamalMorales
      @KamalMorales 7 років тому +20

      Empressive I was on the fence at first but when Adrienne explain things it made me feel better and on her side it's just another way of seeing children. Jeannie was saying like it's morally wrong to just swipe away a kid and say what you don't want .... but like Adrienne tried to explain is The SAMMEEE exact process by just paperwork and you went someone and you put aside the kids or kid you don't want. It's the same thing just technology makes the process easier

  • @lilmakori
    @lilmakori 7 років тому +821

    I don't think this is a bad idea. From the way Adrienne explained it, it's just like looking at the folder they would give you. I assume you would need to go and meet the child your interested in adopting. Using this app is just a way to help speed up the process. If this can somehow helps kids in foster care get adopted then maybe it's worth a shot.

      Plus, people associate that kind of swiping and app stuff with superficial things: such as shopping or online dating.

    • @peanutjelly727
      @peanutjelly727 7 років тому +4

      anditspaganpoetry Yeah let's add children to the list of superficial things to swipe for. They totally fit. By the way, the app is a hoax. They creators did it to see how stupid people are: www.theverge.com/2017/1/31/14455622/adoptly-app-tinder-child-adoption-art-project-reveal

      anditspaganpoetry peanutjelly that's understandable, but that doesn't mean that this kind of technology can't be used for ther purposes. And I assume that potential parent would still need to go through a background check, have their home inspected etc.

    Adrienne and Loni are the only reasonable people in this discussion. Yes, it does seem a little distasteful, but to be honest the underlying process is exactly how adoption works normally. People have preferences for the child's age and ethnicity.

    • @danaelona4081
      @danaelona4081 7 років тому +3

      CJ willz we know it is the same process just swipoing on the phone is the different part. we get that. the problem is that it does not feel very heart felt when a child is adopted by swipping on a phone. no matter how u word it or try to make it seem just a heart felt,,, it isnt. thats the problem. someone who is swipping on a phone is trying ONLY to make it easier for themselves.

    • @anisaantoinette6381

      CJ willz right? We're living in a digital age. And in a ten more years paper won't even exist anymore. If they change ONE preliminary step of adoption to make the process easier and less time consuming it ain't that deep

      Ayy Gee no its a way longer process. People who take the time and go through an agency face to face. It is way more genuine than swiping to make it easier for your own self. Thats greedy.

    Originally, i was like that's so inhumane but I don't see the difference between swiping left/right vs turning a page in the binders they gave you. It's the same thing. It's the same action. It's the same rejection. And it's not the app that's heartbreaking, it's the thought that children's lives DEPEND on it that's heartbreaking. (I want adopt/foster when I'm stable enough)

    These companies are going out of their way to make everything convenient for people and it's starting to get a little ridiculous. Adopting a child SHOULD be a long and drawn out process, not one of convenience. People who are truly serious about adopting shouldn't mind having to take the time to look through folders and consult with different agencies.
    You'd visit as many car dealerships or real estate brokers as necessary because you know that buying a car or a house is a huge commitment. Why should adopting a whole entire child be an easy process?

  • @kendallabat4
    @kendallabat4 7 років тому +7

    Wait, isn't that how adoption really works? Except for this one it's mobile/digital? I'm surprised how Jeannie and Tamera are kinda off with the idea. I kinda like it 'cause it gives adoptive parents more options to see who's compatible with them and for the children to be adopted to be given more exposure so that they can have a chance to be adopted. A lot of children aren't really given a chance to be seen and to be noticed if it's just a regular visit to an agency. This is a milestone for mankind.

  • @Nadirqm

When Americans go overseas to adopt, don't they shop for the child they want? It's all about preferences.. it's not just he swipe.. back in the day they were thumbing their folders upon folders. It's all the same.

  • @MajesticMyronn
    @MajesticMyronn 7 років тому +100

    When I was watching it this morning, I was actually like : WHY?!?! Because yes technology is amazing BUT we can't use it for everything , being able to see a child face to face and getting to know about them BEFORE even adopting them is not comparable to just looking at a profile and swiping left and right... this is not a dating app , this is a child that needs love and care !!!

    • @Alieungirl
      @Alieungirl 7 років тому +7

      but this is just a preliminary process, so even before meeting a child, or getting to know them even more you are still going to be presented with a bunch of files of different children to see which one is right for your home. (still sounds weird) but i said the same thing until adrienne explained that.

      do you know how determental it could be to children if they were required to meet all potentional adoptive parents prior to being adopted? They aren't puppies, that never happens. Adrienne did a horrible job at explaining this app. All the app does is remove the excessive waste of paper. Same process, different format.

    • @kimmi8389
      @kimmi8389 7 років тому +6

      and I'm guessing it cuts down the time spent with each prospective adopter going through the preliminary phases allowing that manpower to be better spent on folks who have made a decision and are ready to move forward- sounds time effective. Not to mention exposing the adopters to more kids, some of which would not even be considered if you go to one agency and are handed a handful of files.

  • @8SeventeenForever
    @8SeventeenForever 7 років тому +1

    Adrienne is so educated on this topic. I'm so glad she was able to inform Tamera and Jeannie because they seem to only hear about what it is, make assumptions, and get upset about it. At least Tamera had good questions about it.
    Also, I don't understand why Jeannie is so pissy about it. I looked up adoptions after this girl chat and they have the exact same thing online. All I would have to do is scroll through different kids of all genders, races, and ethnicities and pick a child I want to know more about. All Jeannie seems to focus on is the fact that it's "like Tinder" when it's not. It's just like looking at a folder in person or looking at kids online... you pick what's best for you and/or your family.

    The child being loved is most important, so if being selective via an app achieves that then good. I've been in foster care in two separate homes as a kid and the last one was amazing. The whole family actually wanted me and my brother. They were all in tears including coco the dog when my dad came to get us. so in my experience love gives life bad that is what children need especially in these circumstances.

    Tamera and Jenni pissed me off. Andriene kept saying it's the same process as if you had the folders at home. And people do go to multiple agencies at once.
    And a lot of things they tell you no for is dead wrong. That whole segment pissed me off. I'm in a wheelchair and in some states I wouldn't be allowed to adopt and Tamera and Jenni both offended me.

    Whether its an app or a binder of info its gonna be the same. My mother is a foster parent and its very similar to this sit down process. You look through the childs file and see any and everything, the good bad and ugly. Either way you dont know the child until you interact. No file can tell you everything! Trust me, we have had all types of children. Its difficult for all parties involved.

    As someone who wants to adopt in the future and has worked with impoverished and under-privileged children in both Canada and the African country of Tanzania, I think this app is a great idea. Our minds are wrongfully and immediately associating it with the superficiality of apps such as Tinder. Our world is altering and our phones are progressively becoming a more prominent tool in our lives, so why not use it? This app seems to be a very beneficial addition to the adoption process in my opinion, especially after Adrienne explains more of the specifics.

  • @theTodds

    It's all about the agency in my opinion. I think what is important is not so much how much they will take care of you during the adoption process but after the process as well. I think that is when the real "battles" start. So thankful for our agency that we chose.

    This story has so many elements to decipher...
    I've never been through the adopting process but in the end the agency picks out some children you "filtered" in your application. You may not always know what you want in a child. If it's your first time, you might have unrealistic thoughts of how this child you may adopt is going to fit into your life and family. I really do believe that if you have a wider range of selection, you really might find a profile which you and the agency may initially have skipped due to the criteria. Just the idea that there are multiple agencies makes the spectrum very broad. I surely believe that's something positive. As long as all agencies and children are represented properly... what's the harm?

  • @maddie3329

    Adrienne did a great job of explaining this. I wish she had more time to explain the full process and everyone would of just let her explain for a minute. It sounds crazy, but I do believe this is a good idea just because it allows people who are looking for a child to go through the files on there own and take more time. I don’t think any of us would completely understand what the app is like unless we actually had it in front of us.

    As an adoptive parent the system does not work like that. You can give preference to your worker/agent but you don't get to see the children beforehand. After you are vetted, cleared by them, FBI and your personal background is completely discussed and approved you get a phone call " we have your son/daughter and you are then given specifics on age etc. and you decide before you even see the child if you want to move forward. Then there is a familiarization process that you have to go through to see if you are good fit and if so you take the child home with monthly social work visits while the the right of births are being taken away. Which can take up to a year and then the judge declares you the parents. It is not simple at all.

      I disagree. The time and effort it takes to meet the an agency, lawyers, families, foster parents, etc. demonstrate that the adoptive parents are in it 100%. Face to face communication allows the authority figures (lawyers, agents) in the situation to assess if the couple or person filing for the adoption will make good parents. People DO adopt children for the wrong reasons and it usually happens when there is not a lot of face to face communication. Jeannie is right.

      Adrienne explained that when you pick the child out on the app, you go in person to meet with an agent there on out. The only difference is that you don't sit down with an agent with folders to pick out a child, you do it on the app. After that they will still have to meet the agency, lawyers, families, foster parents etc. They will still have face to face communication with the authority figures. It's the same except one step was changed. ONE.

    I really hate how people on here are tryina make Tamera look dumb. Tameras' interest is to understand exactly what is being spoken so that her rebuttal isn't doesn't become insignificant. You guys are just tryina play difficult because it was clear about where she was going; she wanted to understand how safe this app was for the children being 'auctioned'. In reality, if anyone can download the app it becomes harder for the agencies to screen these adoptive parents thoroughly prior to adoption, deeming them fit or unfit through interpersonal conversations etc,
    And finally, when children's documents are placed in that type of environment, they are more open to things like blackmailing, exploitation etc because hackers and other people in the cyber crime realm can easily get access to these files.

    I agree with Adrienne. I'm sorry. I know it sounds harsh, but it's the same thing as adopting from an agency. It's just on a phone. It's literally the same thing. You choose a few different children based on a provided profile. Then you may meet all of them or just a couple. Sometimes adoption agencies don't even show the perspective parents what the child looks like at all. I know people who literally knew NOTHING about their child before the met them for the first time. If anything this app probably gives people who want to adopt more of a choice. It sounds so black and white but it's really not that different from the normal process. This is coming from someone who knows A LOT of people who have adopted, and I've done a lot of research because I myself would like to adopt a child one day. I would not be against trying this out.

    My grandmother adopted my parent sight unseen. So I have a very personal opinion when it comes to adoption. To think of the idea 60 years later, my mom being on a profile as a baby and people just swiping past her... Makes me wanna fight! But to Jeannie and Tamera's point, at least with an agency, even thought you're dealing with files, it's being "brokered" by a (hopefully) certified agent. So that adds to the humanity of it all. The app just makes it sound so cold and about statistics.

  • @ourhomeiscool
    @ourhomeiscool 7 років тому

    Adri, not every agency work the same way! The child is (or at least should be) the priority! They show the family profile to the child or/and birth family, so many times the choice it's not the adoptive parent's! If you are going to adopt from the foster system, the agency will do their best to match a child to your family accordantly with the info on your home study, what you have discussed with your social worker, and mostly important accordantly to that chid's needs. ps: I'm an adoptive momma in the making. ❤

Jeannie can say all the politically correct stuff she wants, but at the end of the day, she doesn't even want children at all, let alone adopt one in need. Tameras the one who wants to adopt. And so, it just seems weird for Jeannie to criticize something that is helping more kids get adopted when she won't even consider that herself.

    It's interesting how much more care and concern there is in regards to becoming a parent when people are adopting. It gets heated and serious pretty fast, but none of these concerns would arise if a family said that they were trying to get pregnant. And this isn't just them, but society. It's like people trying to adopt should pass a test while people who can get pregnant have no test or strict criteria to meet whatsoever. Any thoughts? Ultimately the end result is the same, right?

  • @jessiem3169
    @jessiem3169 7 років тому

    If it helps more children get adopted (safely), and maybe it will help lower cost. Obviously none of it should be at the risk of endangering the child.
    If they knew how the foster care system worked, or about other children who are waiting to be adopted that are often overlooked maybe they'd really grasp it more. It's not just about making it easier on the person wanting to adopt but instead making it easier to connect families from across your country or the world.
    It definitely will have to be tested but for the idea isn't a bad one.

I knew someone who was interested in adoption its EXTREMELY expensive why? because the money goes to the agency. For people who can't have children it can be extremely hard as well but there are so many children in foster care that also need a home. ( This is why people adopt children from other countries to be honest)

    Ok look, I don't like the idea of swiping because, like Jeannie said, the design comes from tinder which never sat well with me from the start. BUT is it really THAT bad? Do people not choose the child they want to adopt in person? And why did Jeannie gasp when Adrienne said you can choose the ethnicity, age and gender? Like those are important factors for families who want to adopt. Idk, overall, the design of the app is weird to me but I can see what they're trying to do here.

I will just say.. the descriptions are what they want you to know and hear.. not saying none of it true.. but a lot is fabricated to make child seem better... etc... It is the GOVERNMENT.
