There's an Al Bundy in every guy. That side is us that doesn't want to give a crap, that takes it all in stride and just wants to watch Psycho Dad with our hand down our pants.
There's something refreshing about Al's story... usually Hollywood shows you that if you follow your dreams, you can achieve anything. But here's Al who dreamed of a pro football career and ended up selling shoes to support a very problematic family. Turns out a lot of Americans can identify with a guy who hates his life.
For some reason, I loved hearing the story about the big executive admitting to Ed that he was wrong about him. I don’t even know who that person is, but for someone as powerful as Ed said the guy was, it’s nice to know there’s people out there like that. I’ve never had a boss admit to their mistakes!
I loved him in all three as well, though it's been a long time since I've seen Dutch and barely remember it. But mostly as Al Bundy. Married with Children was in my top 3 Fox shows in the early 90s along with Simpsons and Herman's Head. However, to me there is a close-second fave character of his... Bill Jacks, retired police officer in Imperial Beach, CA. With enduring catchphrases like "I got my eye on YOU!" and "Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ" that my wife and I STILL TO THIS DAY say to each other in random situations... well, IYKYK, as they say. P.S. for those going WTF? about now, Bill is a central character from John from Cincinnati. which was an HBO show that began airing right after the infamous "black screen" series finale of the Sopranos. Very few people watched it at the time, it was cancelled after just one 10 ep season... but it was created by David Milch (better known for NYPD Blue in the 90s and Deadwood earlier in the 00s), so if you like his stuff (especially his dialogue style), give it a shot, it's on HBO Max and again... only 10 eps, so it doesn't take long to watch it all. Highly recommended if you like quirky stuff (people compare it to Twin Peaks sometimes but you're not really going to find an Agent Cooper central character in it, so... don't go in expecting that aspect).
I never watched the show (Married With Children) back in the day for whatever reason but have watched a lot of the highlights and this guy was just incredible! They couldn't have picked a better guy to play the part.
Awesome actor, very talented. Very smart. Married with Children black humour was pretty advancedfor its time. I think very ahead even for our time of excesive PC, offended butthurts and so. Al Bundy represents the cry of agony of post - modern manhood. And Ed made an quite exquisite rendition of that concept
I still watch "Married....with Children". Yes, Al was resigned to his fate! At time's he was determined to make his tormentor's suffer in return! That was Comic Gold! Ed brought the Laugh's like few can! Just a facial expression would have me in tear's laughing. Ed, & cast, THANK YOU ALL for the laugh's! You all helped me through some dark day's in my life. Just having something to laugh about helped me survive. Thank you, each & everyone! One of my favorite episodes was the 4th season backyard bbq, & Al has the apron that reads, "Kiss the Cook. Kill the Wife." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I want one of those!!! And all the references to Psycho Dad & Weenie Tot's.... 😂😂😂❤❤❤
I started watching the show again and Psycho Dad actually was first mentioned way back in season 4 even though it didn't became a big part of the show until much later
Average? He was the greatest damn fullback in the history of Polk High!! 4 touchdowns in one game, which is why they call him Touchdown Bundy. if it wasn't for Peggy Wanker, he'd have gotten that football scholarship and been in the Pro Football Hall of Fame by now!
I watched some kinda behind the scenes documentary about "Married..." once, and one of the writers/directors/producers/whatever told the tale off casting O'Neill as Al. According to the story, the scene they were reading for started with Al coming through the door and allegedly, when it was Ed's turn, he stopped in front of the door, let out a heavy sigh, and only then stepped through, and it was at that moment when they knew they had the right person. I like how both this story and Ed's story kind of compliment each other.
Ed O'Neill is so awesome and Married With Children was my most favorite tv show ever. It was just so ridiculously funny. And Al Bundy was, is and will always be, "The Man"..!💪😉
Ed O' Neil was the perfect actor to bring Al Bundy to life. I loved and still love that show. A great funny movie that he was in was Disorganized Crime. The entire cast was amazing.
The daddy of all sitcoms. I have the entire collection of MWC. I was 22 years old when this phenomenal comedy aired in 1(987). Looking at Ed O'Neil, he has hands like shovels. Not only is he funny. He's comes out with some wise sayings. MWC is the 🐐💯💙💙💙💙👍💯👍💯...
I used to roll with Ed at the Gracie Academy back in the 90s and he would tell stories about his childhood that included him doing the voice and mannerisms of his father. It sounded so much like Al that I'm sure he got part of it from his dad.
All that means is that it's going to suck to be her because Al is relentless in his search for justice. I don't condone his actions but I can see his purpose.
Grew up watching this show as a young kid .. And my parents laughed at this show all the time... 😂 😂 😂... They've been married 52 years now, and they still Laugh
I see a lot of my uncle in Al Bundy's character and my Uncle is one of the funniest people i know albeit unwittingly hilarious which makes him even funnier to me. I feel bad Ed O'Niell got typecast as Al Bundy but thats testament to his acting and really nailing a character 100% one of the top American sitcom characters of all time
A fat woman hedgehogged her way into court today. I don't know how security let her in with a chainsaw, but she came after me after I informed her that the Hamburglar would be appointed as her attorney. Finally after the 101st Airborne subdued her, I found her in contempt and had a crane airlift her to the slammer.
I've seen her from the front I've seen her from the back I've seen her in a chair I've seen her in a sack I've seen her stand I've seen her crouch I've seen her on our stupid couch I do not like her in the mall I do not like her in the hall I do not like her in my life I do not like my big red wife. BEST POEM EVER.
I read that he was also a contender for the part of Sam Malone in Cheers. It would have been different chemistry but it could have worked.(The original pick for Diane was Wendy Malick and they wanted John Lithgow to play Frasier).Amazing that the so called second choices just nailed the parts.
I used to watch that show as a kid and thought it was the funniest show ever. That lasted till I got married and had kids. There really was a moral to the story in each episode.
So, I actually disagreed. I love married with children, and when I was living in China, my partner was from the UK, and I started watching the show, and was trying to get him into it, and it is very cringeworthy; now, some parts are pure gold, as they are want to be, but the fat jokes, and some of the misogyny does not hold up. And I say this as a woman who wears a “no ma’am” T-shirt when she goes places.
notice the laugh he gets when he does Al.. he could still pull of being Al even now.. just a shame Kelly is now about 40 and same for Bud .. loved that show
I briefly met E.O. at a county fair back when the show was still on, where he was autographing pics. I told him the same thing, that his facial expressions were so funny. He just smiled and handed me his pic. He's pretty darn good on Modern Family, too.

For some reason, I loved hearing the story about the big executive admitting to Ed that he was wrong about him. I don’t even know who that person is, but for someone as powerful as Ed said the guy was, it’s nice to know there’s people out there like that. I’ve never had a boss admit to their mistakes!
I have watched a lot of interviews with actors, actresses, famous athletes and I could listen to this guy all day!
I still die of laughter when i see an Al Bundy scene. This show is iconic he will always be Al to me love Ed O'neill ❤🤘
Ed O'Neill is such a class act! I just can't get enough of the guy!
Dutch I believe is one of the most underrated movies. He is amazing in it!
Yes! I agree
"Nothing burps like bacon."
Yes
I enjoyed Dutch. Good movie and a good dude.
Peggy’s mom from upstairs; “i smell fowl.”
Al; “You certainly do.” 😂😂
Ed O'Neill is one of the most under rated actors of our time....truly a gem.
There will only be one Al Bundy. No replacement.
My favorite episode was the scene in the theater when Kelly says "Daddy beat him up" and Al says "sure pumpkin" . Gold, just pure gold.
I absolutely love Ed O’Neil
Loved him In “Married with Children” Loved him in “Dutch” and Loved him in “Modern Family”
The man’s Pure Gold
A legend 🙏🏾
He was also the Troll King in The 10th Kingdom!
Amazing to see All Bundy as a soft spoken , educated , talking about dramas & plays. Ed o Neil is a incredible actor
Both of these guys... Ed and Al, are beasts. Absolutely LOVED this show.
Watched it as a child, teens, bought the dvd's & watch the series with my boys (teens) and hubby. We all laugh lol. Best cast, best show.
I miss old school humor, Airplane, Naked Gun, Blazing Saddles & Def Benny Hill!!!
Can't image anyone else in the role. The cast were all perfect...
Dude is trash.
One of my favorite episodes was the 4th season backyard bbq, & Al has the apron that reads,
"Kiss the Cook. Kill the Wife."
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I want one of those!!!
And all the references to Psycho Dad & Weenie Tot's....
😂😂😂❤❤❤
I started watching the show again and Psycho Dad actually was first mentioned way back in season 4 even though it didn't became a big part of the show until much later
the greatest average guy
Average? He was the greatest damn fullback in the history of Polk High!! 4 touchdowns in one game, which is why they call him Touchdown Bundy. if it wasn't for Peggy Wanker, he'd have gotten that football scholarship and been in the Pro Football Hall of Fame by now!
+daddyrichten and +MrAlumni72 I love you guys. :)
MrAlumni72 yup
Trevor Mendez - the second is John Goodman.
No way a average guy scores 4 touchdowns in 1 game.
What a casual conversation. Loved it.
Thank you Al for representing every self resolved man's feelings.
Remember Al's shirt. "NO MA'AM".
Al Bundy: "ahhh, Home Sweet Hell".
Al Bundy: "If the world had only one throat,
Yes I read that too.
I heard in some interview he also slipped his hands in his pants, sat back and sighed.
I've watched this clip a hundred times and it never gets old.
Ed O'Neill is so awesome and Married With Children was my most favorite tv show ever. It was just so ridiculously funny. And Al Bundy was, is and will always be, "The Man"..!💪😉
Al bundy is the best role of all time in his acting career.
@@legendaryTMNICO Yes it is. Just imagine the MeToo movement if they made another season🤣🤣🤣
"Do this dress make me look fat, Al?!"--Peg
"No, the fat makes you look fat, Peg!!"--Al
Al would never say anything with two exclamation marks. That's the whole point he was making in this video.
LOL, right......"stop asking me stupid questions you already know answer too Peg"
Does this dress make me look fat
No, you make the dress look fat.
Hes not afraid to say it remember no ma'am tookover Jerry Springer he actually said it.
I used to roll with Ed at the Gracie Academy back in the 90s and he would tell stories about his childhood that included him doing the voice and mannerisms of his father. It sounded so much like Al that I'm sure he got part of it from his dad.
A great comedian, a great actor! I wish we had this quality of tv today.
Married With Grandchildren. Think about that.
No.
You can't not think about it if I say think about it. Not possible.
See.
haha mine are both still alive!!! that means if you have a dead grandma you had to think of that while I didn't.
All that means is that it's going to suck to be her because Al is relentless in his search for justice. I don't condone his actions but I can see his purpose.
When you see how different he is in real life makes you realise what a great actor he is.
MARRIED WITH CHILDREN was must-see TV on Sunday nights in 1991 when I was at Kent State University.
El " Al Bundy "O'Neill is the best❤😊👍
Keana Griffith no sexy you the best. Damn you fine.
He will always be Al Bundy in everyone eyes like Daniel Radcliffe will always be Harry Potter.
ixTopDawgxiHDTv Daniel looks a lot older and adult now.
ixTopDawgxiHDTv not true, after seeing swiss army man, Radcliff will always be a farting jetski corpse in my eyes lol
Harry who?
ixTopDawgxiHDTv don't you ever dare compare al bundy to Harry Potter you miserable piece of shit
Rick Harding Al Bundy and Harry Potter have more in common than you think .
He made Married with Children a successful. Every episode was spleen splitting laughter.
I feel bad Ed O'Niell got typecast as Al Bundy but thats testament to his acting and really nailing a character 100%
one of the top American sitcom characters of all time
Azrael I think that's because everyone has an uncle like Al, the guy who's uncultured, cynical, and hysterically funny without meaning to be.
Even still in the modern family role I think “”what if al left peg for this hot Columbian chick” even though I know al and jay are nothing alike
The character of Al Bundy was nothing we've never seen on TV at the time. Totally revolutionized TV sitcoms.
"A fat woman walked into the courtroom today..."
Lol that made me laugh so hard I'm choking!
"I asked her how she plead. She got down on her kankles and begged for a pizza. I demanded order the court, she told me the toppings she wanted."
oh man ... thank you for the laugh :D
I'm the 300th to like your comment! :-D
Might be the absolute best show ever. Political correctness has ruined everything.
I completely agree !
I remember watching this show in 6th grade and quoting insults to my classmates. It killed.
The chemistry between him and David was especially fantastic
anonymous they are the Democrats Militia
@anonymous Typical racist idiot!
Thank God Ed got the part. The guy is a legend.
I've seen her from the front
I've seen her from the back
I've seen her in a chair
I've seen her in a sack
I've seen her stand
I've seen her crouch
I've seen her on our stupid couch
I do not like her in the mall
I do not like her in the hall
I do not like her in my life
I do not like my big red wife.
DUTCH another hilarious flick!!!!! Love this man in everything he's been in including Ford Fairlane
The disco king lol
Peg: "Al, rub my tush..."
Al: *puts on baseball glove...
This guy is a legend. What other sitcom characater can you even remember from that time? The shows still hold up today.
Kramer 😊
I remember a few.
Bud....Kelly. and Peggy.
But, those are all I can recall 👍
I'd say the only sitcoms from the 90s I loved more than Married with Children were Newsradio and Seinfeld and that's about it.
Tim Taylor
I could just laugh my ass of, when I only see Ed's facial expressions as Al.
notice the laugh he gets when he does Al.. he could still pull of being Al even now.. just a shame Kelly is now about 40 and same for Bud .. loved that show
DaveMcIroy
Dude how exactly?
His real persona is like soooooooooo different from Al Bundy.
FriendlyCroock
What are you talking about?
Definitely...MWC wouldn't have become such a hit without his hilarious facial expressions. He didn't even have to say anything to be funny.
I briefly met E.O. at a county fair back when the show was still on, where he was autographing pics. I told him the same thing, that his facial expressions were so funny. He just smiled and handed me his pic. He's pretty darn good on Modern Family, too.
