- It was bedlam in the Gezawa area of Kano State, on Wednesday, when a 38-year-old man set a mosque ablaze, while worshippers were praying. The assailant, identified as Shafiu Abubakar, approached the prayer house, locked the doors, splashed petrol and set the place ablaze during the Subhi prayers. No fewer than eight worshippers have been confirmed dead and 28 others hospitalised. A very senior police officer revealed that the act is not associated with a terrorist attack, but came as a result of inheritance distribution

Dear Mr. Majeed,
You misunderstood the Islamic ruling on inheritance.
According to the Quran, a wife is entitled to one-eighth (1/8) of her husband's properties if the husband has no children. If the husband has a child, she will receive one-fourth (1/4) of the properties.
As for the children, you are correct that a male child receives twice (2x) the share of a female child.
For further explanation, please refer to the Quran chapter 4 (Surat An-Nisa) verse 12 for the wife's share of the inheritance, and Quran Chapter 4 (Surat An-Nisa) verse 11 for the child's inheritance.
These are the limits set by Allah.

U can actually write your will in Islam. Just be just and follow Quranic injunctions

What you are allowed to write is called "Al-Wasiyya", which some people interpret as a Will.
This is different from the normal Wills most people know because you cannot give a share of your properties to any of your family members that Allah has already given share to in the Quran, Chapter 4, verse 11 and 12.
Verse 13 of the same Surat, says: "These are the limits set by Allah". Therefore, it is a redline in Islam.
Al-Wasiyya in Islam allows you to give some portion of your properties (less than one-third (1/3)) to people who are not entitled to your inheritance, according to the Quran.
May Allah Guide us to His right Path (Ameen).
