The middle anchor whose entrance is at the center fountain is a fascinating case. It was originally occupied by Tepper's who moved from downtown and called the mall store "Kartus" instead of Tepper's. It opened March 2, 1972 with the mall. It became Mr. A's Limited August 1973. March 24, 1977, it became Belk-Avery (a Belk combo I'd never seen before, so the Belk that left last year wasn't the first Belk there). During June 1977, it switched advertising as Belk-Avery to Avery's. February 5, 1981, the store became Wm. Henry when that chain bought the assets of Avery's. It seems to have closed by July or August of 1977. Beall's opened at the space on October 15, 1981. The name changed to Beall-Ladymon in July 1985 when the company renamed itself. It closed February 1994 and then Goody's came along and opened August 11, 1994. It closed July 2008 and came back and reopened, as you said, November 2, 2011, to close again March 28, 2015. So, to recap, in that space, we had: Kartus, Mr. A's Limited, Belk-Avery, Avery's, Wm. Henry, Beall's, Beall-Ladymon, Goody's, and Goody's, for a total of 9 anchor names in that space over its lifetime. I'm including the history of that anchor here since it was quite difficult to research due to all the name changes. BTE, Sears opened July 14, 1971 and Britt's March 2, 1972. Kress (where Citi-Trends was or is) opened November 26, 1971.

Wow this is so nostalgic😄. Thanks for sharing this. Selma is where I was born and raised. I remember when this mall was filled with activity back in the day. Holiday events, talent show events and just any weekend seeing people hang out at the Selma Mall, Maaan, so many childhood memories😃.

Sad to see the Selma Mall this way.
    Practically abandoned !
Looking like it won't be long before it's becomes just another distant memory of places that I enjoyed growing up in Selma Alabama.
The Selma Mall used to be where it was happening back in the day.
You couldn't go in the Selma Mall without bumping into you sum friends or the chicks that you were crazy about at the time LOL.
I remember walking thru the front entrance first on the left was that creepy ass wig store. First on the right side was the military recruiting office that never seemed to be open for opportunity.
Traveling further down the front entrance corridor about midway every December you could expect ol'Santa Clause there set up shop asking all the childrens about their Christmas wish list then taking and selling epic photos
(that show up after Xmas) to all the parents. LMAO
Coming further down the corridor you approach the great big majestic main focal point of the entire Selma Mall ! The great big beautiful and all powerful wishing fountain ! Right dead center of the Selma Mall's bustling intersecting highway.
All of my parents loose change went in that fountain straight up ! LMAO
Standing at the fountain directly to your right was the ice cream shop that had all the good shit.
To the left were the drink and candy vending machines. Straight aheads was muthaphukin "Goodies" clothing dept.
Find sum fly threads in Goodies !
Taking a left turn cruising past almighty wishing fountain transitioning into the left corridor just up ahead alittle on the right you'd first hear the futuristic digital sounds of pouring out of the Selma Malls one and only bad ass Arcade !!!
    (always super dark inside)
    Loved that shit !
    PacMan,Mrs.PacMan,Air hockey,Contra,
M.Jackson Moon Walker, Space Invaders Galactica, Galaga,
Double Dragon, and my personal favorite that big ass enclosed sit inside driving arcade game "Pole Position"
Not to metion multiple Kik ass pinball machines to bounce between while waiting on other losers to quit bullshitting and get the hell off my game.
    ( T'was serious shit man! )
Across the hall from the Arcade was and always be my absolute favorite store in the Selma Alabama Mall.
    { PEPPERMINT Records }
The music store that fed my glorious metal head appetite throughout my time in life back home in beautiful Selma Alabama.
I truly miss and hang onto the great memories from growing up there. Feel blessed to have lived the experience that Selma had to offer me during my youth. Good and Bad !
There's a bunch of other awesome stores I'm not bore with.
Miss the hell outta walking thru that old forgotten place with my family & old friends back home every damn day.
    With that i say
    Long Live
    The Selma Mall !!!
May the many ghost of better yesteryears roam the halls forever and ever !
In the words of AC/DC I say.......
    Rock'n'Roll ain't noise Pollution

Why do have black and white photos when colored ones are available? I can't see swat in black and white!

I didnt find any old colored photos, if those are out there then that's amazing! It's rare for a lot of these malls to even have so many old photos, at all, black & white or color.
