Yes. I also dislike this sound of the guitar. It's the same guitar that David Russell plays. It's a sound that adapts to the guitarist when it seems to provide a solution to the problem of the "thin tone", the sound, the touch of the nail. Guitarists may seem to be satisfied when this problem is solved. But for me (the listener) the result is disgusting: the guitar sounds plastic, the sound of the bass strings is very very poor and for this reason when it comes to differentiating the different voices of the music it is impossible because the sound is too monotone. The guitar needs the bright sound, it is necessary at least for me. The real solution to all these problems is Narciso Yepes tone and playing.
I really liked this Recital. Thank you for this. What is so important is the re stringing of the Classical Guitar. Notice how Chrisp the Music sounded. You only get a couple of months out of a set of strings. Sometime i will do a video of replacing the strings. CGSNI.
In Australia we have some very fine guitar makers who make beautiful instruments both classical & flamenco, apart from the Smallmans. Guitars by DeJong & Elazzi( to name only two) have a sweetness to their sounds that many think that Smallmans louder guitars lack due to an excess of scaffolding and carbon fibre in bracing below the table. And for guitar building excellence and sweetness of tone no-one surpasses the grandfather of aussie Luthiers himself, the great Gerard Gilet! and all these makers sell for half the price of a Smallman and less!
so much emotional content...listenning to this is not enough, you have to watch him play it. I like the fact that he wipe his eye at the end.True classical playing ^^
I really love this peace and Fernando Sor. There us one small bit of this video (not musically) that I am trying to figure out. What is the big black hole on the fret board of his guitar near the 17th fret? Is it like an action adjustment? I have seen many modern elevated freboard guitars have those located about there.
It is simply a slightly larger gap that all classical guitars hav at 17th fret. normally gap is 1 string width but here it is 3 gaps wide instead. one can only wonder why. It is no big deal as those frets are never used anyway, are they?
Smallman and sons started doing that on their guitars. You put an Alan wrench in there to adjust the angle of the neck to the body so you can adjust the string hight easily.
I would spend 20 grand on a nice instrument. It would bring me great pleasure playing only for myself. I'm playing on a guitar now that I have 7 k's in. I would like to have another. Anyone feel in a philanthropic mood reading this? :-)
In that case u need to go to youtube channel Sirdanik -- and this guy is very very good, but u could keep this video in mind in case later in life u develop insomnia, lol
Please remember that this piece is actually a funeral elegy\march with an intro! It was written around the time of Chopins famous funeral march. Sor wrote this in Paris late in his life, some say at time of his cherished daughters death, but there is the reference to french woman friend written into script, is it Charlotte (from memory)? I personally love the piece, one of my favourite works of all Fernando's many memorable mastterpieces. It must be played with the slowness & dignity it deserves.
i really don't care nothing about the guitar it is just a very pretty piece of wood with nylon strings...and nickel tuners :) what the musician makes with her it is the important thing, a guitar without a player it is just a inanimate object.
i love the total commitment of this guitarist: whatever Sor was trying to "say", Viloteau wants to be there and convey it with full force
Un guitarrista y músico excepcional. Felicitaciones Thomas!
The major section in the last third of the piece… My god it’s brilliant. Like a Bach Chorale.
A stunning performance, Thomas.
It took me few seconds to realize he speaks english in the beginning :D
What? was that a tap, written by Sor?? 100 years before Eddie??? WHAT?!!!!
He is one the best guitarist in the world. I do not understand why he has 32 dislikes.
+Raúl Calderón was gonna say the same thing
Classical music is not for everyone. It takes a bit of intellect to appreciate it.
It's probably the sound of his guitar.

Yes you are totally right. I also think that lattice braced guitars have a very poor and nasal bass.
Sor has elevated the music composed for guitar. This piece is amazing. And such wonderful playing!❤
watching Carlo Marchione playing this is truly an experience!
Thank you dear Antonio! :)

Brilliant
beautiful , this is the reasons why I´m still love the guitar ,. someone to make it sound beautiful, it fills me with life
Smallman guitar??
Fine performance!!🙏
Le son est juste parfait. Technique impeccable et impressionnante. Bravo

AH! Whats the title of the into peice? I used to be able to play it and cant remember the name! Please respond! Thanks :)
WOW! Brilliant!!!!
YESSSS.... ONE OF THE MOST EXCELLENT ARTISTS IN THE WORLD.....I WISH YOU HEALTH AND SUCCESS....!
Greg Smallman? Brasilian rosewood?
AAARGH!! PEOPLE, dont- I SAY DONT make noises during concert!
Great job man! Best 16 minutes and 45 seconds this week.

I would like to know that too. All smallman guitars have that.

I would spend 20 grand on a nice instrument. It would bring me great pleasure playing only for myself. I'm playing on a guitar now that I have 7 k's in. I would like to have another. Anyone feel in a philanthropic mood reading this? :-)
