Giuliani e Rossini sono i più grandi artisti italiani di quel periodo che hanno saputo attraverso la loro musica esaltare l'innata gioia di vivere.Naturalmente quando si trovano interpreti di questa levatura...
Well done! I love Giuliani. Watched last summer as my son learned his Le Rossiniana Op 119 No 1. The dedication and dicipline that goes into learning these pieces and making them performance worthy is tremendous. The dynamics in Ian's play are impressive.
Bravissimo, complimenti.
The thing that discriminates amateurs (me) from professionals (you) is (among other things) the incredibly clear articulation and the ability to maintain the piece without interruption from beginning to end. I really enjoy this performance and am trying to study the piece with your realization in mind. Thank you!
Wow! I'm learning this 20-page monster at the moment and your performance of it inspires me so! Fantastic job! I hope to be able to play it as well as you by the time my masterclass rolls around. Incredibly passionate playing!
@keesmiekentim Thank you for your comment. I'm not sure what you mean by switching between treble and warm notes. Could you explain? I always try and use the maximum amount of variation in colour which a guitar will give.
Bravo! This is about the best I've heard of this sonata. Not really among the best of Guiliani's bigger works, so it takes insightful musicianship to transform it into a better piece that it really is. And we have it here. There is grandeur, color and just overall pizzazz!
As old hat as it is to say, it really is 99% hard work and good practise, dedication etc and 1% talent... I am certain of that. Sure there may be some natural things like long nimble fingers etc... but in the end that means nothing. The amount of brilliant concert guitarists with tiny stumpy fingers or crappy natural nails etc shows that. What really makes the stars is their unwavering love and dedication for what they do, which means they will stop at nothing to reach their goals.
Its always so funny when people say- natural talent, feel, blaa hah- what he has is hours and hours of daily practice done to achieve this level of technique and security- Congratulations great playing.
Great.,great! Not only your sound but also your interpretation. Really unbelieveble. The switching between treble and warm notes remind me of a "modern approach" teacher you must have had though... Cut it with playing arpeggios for instance always treble, play it your own way, your sound is great and warm and very, very legato. I would really like to hear more from you! Bach, Tarrega, Sor...Let me know...!
Absolutely great performance. The music jumps out. Ian must have been very please with that recording. Giuliani is a staple of the guitar, long may his music live. How silly his detractors sound, calling his music easy...it is simply great, enjoyable, genius.
flamencata: No doubt he has over 10,000 hours of practice behind him......however so do i. and I can't begin to approach his dexterity. Every great artist has what those like myself do not: if you don't like the word talent or feel or whatever, then pick another word. But I can assure you it's not just practice. A good reflection on this is "Amadeus", wherein Soliari cursed Mozart and god for giving him Soliari, the great desire to compose, but not the 'talent'.
There is no argument with the fact that talent exists and it is powerful. Denying that, or saying that practice, even perfect practice can compensate for it is the propaganda of teachers and for those who are in denial.
hm great effort. however, I can only find critical words: he s playing the first piece slightly too fast, which destroys the whole musical atmosphere. this does not give him the time to find interesting phrases. I cant say too much about the other pieces because I have not played them.

This performance really demonstrates the rare beauty of the classical guitar. It was a truly beautiful performance.
Beautiful, one of the best Giuliani op 15 I've ever heard

this guy is great
Hello. The guitar is built by Jochen Rothel. Thanks, Ian

With Giuliani even easy and simple is genial. Never understood the persistent downplaying of this composer. To many traumatized students....
very nice. this is not a difficult piece, but to make it so colorful, that is tough.
Thank you Ian for the inspiration. Would you please record Giuliani's Opus 71 No.1
Sonata?

Please play also "Gran Sonata Eroica" op. 150
Nice guy ;) !

Great performance, I only wish the sound recording was better.
This Giuliani sonata can sound deadly boring but Ian Watt makes it sound like a masterpiece ,well done.
I wish every classical guitar video had this quality. Anything lower t han this is unacceptable.
any tabs for this piece?? anyone plz!
Hey Ian, wonderful performance. If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose to omit the low E in the last chord of the first movement?
The guitar? Is a thomas Dauge?
where is the musik?
Great! xD
Your playing is really beautiful. You seem to have a natural feel for dynamic, timing and technique.Do you know the composer Agustín Barrios Mangoré?
i wanna be like u""

@bastiaanvanbeek ik denk dat ian die wel kent, da's een prof.
Good playing, precise and clear. Melodics lines need more sound and ideas...
Definitely biting Julian Bream's heels...
"MUSIC"!!! how can you understand, when you write music with K?!??

Of course he doesnt know Barrios, he's been dead since 1944.
It's looks like a Kenny hill
There is no argument with the fact that talent exists and it is powerful.

maremma però che cilacche ogni tanto che tira!
learn to read music. it will honestly help you and develop you sooo much more as a musician you have no idea.
Guitar sounds a bit out of tune.
JulianJules all guitars are a bit out of tune!
harry potter on guitar
Harsh sound and out of tune but good performance
