- This video for health care providers caring for patients with HIV/AIDS seeks to counter fear and uncertainty by offering facts from trained medical personnel about conditions and situations that are and aren't risky in health care settings. It offers the latest facts on AIDS and practices to prevent cross-infection in hospitals in particular, and acknowledges that providers can feel challenged in trying to serve their patients and protect themselves, too.

I was stationed at the Presidio of San Francisco CA in 79... That city was Awesome...I loved being there. There was so much to do and see and the food was exceptional....I was there when the bath houses started closing but I was into my family and not paying too much attention to what was happening...I accepted all people as just people as I still do today.. I went to the Castro area and had the best time on Holloween...I saw all kinds of costumes, people partying and having a great time...San Francisco was a Great place at that time in history and the living was easy.. It was awesome to be in the military at that time too.. I have my best memories from that time...Aids came and ruined alot of things..
I My bestfriend died from Aids in 1994.It was devastating to watch him waste away.Its something you can never forget.While the treatment sas not as advan ced as it is now.I'm sure he would have lived longer had he stop using drugs.
I'm glad you had a great time at that time in history, unfortunately as you were having your fun, thousands of mostly young men were not and that is the tragedy.

@@charlottebruce979 But the mostly young men, bisexual and homosexual had such a good time having orgies, drinking, drugging until the party was over. So, they did enjoy themselves to an extent that most people would never experience.
Bath houses started closing in '79? That sounds a little early right? I thought it was more like 84-85? Maybe even later. I was born in 83 so correct me if I'm wrong
I was growing up at the time the information came out about 8/9. Made me have an irrational fear as wasn't really of an age that i properly understood. I was afraid of touching anything
Same here. I was 10, didn't know exactly how sex worked, and how HIV spread.

I wouldn’t blame the nurses one bit for being afraid to treat the patient who has a disease that just barely was discovered.

We knew by 1983 that it couldn't be transmitred through casual contact.

The government should have been held accountable when they (1) created it in a lab (2) purposely not testing the blood or knew the blood given in transfusion was contaminated (3) the government protect blood donation sites and hospitals from liabilities of infecting people with HIV virus

Such sad times. They knew so little. Calling it the Gay plague, boy were they off the mark.
In fact it was principaly in the homosexual community apart from blood transfusions . The reason is that the skin inside the anus is like that of inside the mouth, thin and tears easily . The vaginal wall is like the palm of the hand . I worked in one of the first aids clinics that helped victimes and familys psychologicaly . It was hushed up so as to protect the gay community .
