  • Presents a roomful of health care providers receiving training on how to manage the knowns and unknowns about AIDS and deal with their anxiety, guilt, burnout, and even anger. At the start of the video, one nurse raises her hand to say, "The doctors aren't always honest about the patient having AIDS." It aims to explain the complicated feelings of health care providers who work with AIDS patients and presents a rational-emotive approach to assist in overcoming counter-productive thinking and fear.

My first AIDS patient was angry and bitter. He was avoided by all. My second was fearful, angry and hurt. I had him for a patient the second day of his hospitalization. He was in reverse isolation. His sisters were at his bedside without gowns or masks. I told them they needed to gown up. Jonathan, my patient, remarked about making them sick. No one had told any of them the purpose of reverse isolation! I was quite fond of him. My last AIDS patient was in a psych hospital. She had been admitted in late summer, so had no warm clothes at discharge. I brought her an "outgrown" beautiful London Fog trench coat to wear to the LTAC facility. One of the other nurses remarked, "Why give that to HER? We can just wrap her in a blanket." I replied, "because SHE deserves dignity." They all do.

That’s unfair. This fatal disease came out of nowhere and people had no way of knowing how it was transmitted. It’s logical that people were terrified and ready to do anything at all to protect themselves.

@@kittiesshortie5011 I was not talking about the fear of that fatal disease, which is of course understandable. I was referring to the hard prejudice and severe blame towards homosexual people for just existing or having a partner, which were common and widespread in those years, as many segments of this video clearly show.

Recent news articles reveal a faster strain, not to mention and the number of variants that coexist in a body are more reasons why different drug cocktails are needed. And some of these drugs, over time and constant use, can damage the liver or kidneys. A lot of people shrug off the issue as "it's treatable and there's PReP too" but is it that simple?

I’m 54 years old now and I had a massive ischemic stroke in 2015, if at my age somehow I caught it … the devastating effect of this stupid stroke I’m not sure I would be inclined to take meds to prolong my life … I would be very tempted to go into hospice and let the disease take its course 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just don’t know the stroke took a major toll on my quality of life 😢
